This was so useful- thanks for sharing. It's crazy how something that's in the bible and was a given, normal, and expected before the 1950s and 60s is now something that our community takes offence to, ridicules and discourages.

I am old enough (raised in the 50s) that I remember when women wore head coverings to Protestant churches. This is now resisted and reviled because it poses a huge threat to the predominant ideology and power of our era--Feminism. The head covering is a sign of the headship of men (husbands and fathers) over women (wives). This is a direct and frontal attack on Feminism. The head covering is powerfully resisted in churches. Why? The reason why is because Feminism is dominate in the modern church.

What's holding me back I think is fear that it's not that common for Christian women in our culture to cover up, and it's mostly associated with islam... And I know definitely that it will take a lot of explaining all the time. However, what we do, we should do for God in the first place. And people can always find something to criticize you for. I was recently deeply convicted to begin practicing modesty (more than usual that is) and I just started head covering, both for obedience to Christ but also to humble myself of my pride and vanity about my long hair. My husband has been very supportive about it but there are others who haven't been. My husband's opinion is the only one that matters to me but they've been very vocal. They don't understand that it's part of my faith and obedience to God, not conforming to this world. The main thing has been separating myself from the world as all Christians need to do. You are a wise sister in Christ. Ive been covering on and off the past few years and found much freedom in my journey transitioning into more full time covering. Ive received some criticism and resistance and lost friends (not necessarily over the headcovering but perhaps in conjunction with pursuing general modesty). Ive had to repent of a lot of pride in my past and the headcovering has been so eye opening at where my flesh has caused issues with marriage, children, daily thoughts and habits and helped me seek the Lord deeper. The works of David Bercot and Scroll Publishing on the history of the early church really opened my eyes to how serious Christians in the early centuries took modesty, separation from the world etc. God bless you sister your words are very encouraging and rare in this fallen world.

@@oldworldowl I did feel that, too, at first. Take comfort in the other women who veil. Story: about 2017/18 a woman began attending my parish, veiling and Traditional demeanor, such as kneeling most of the time,no sign of peace. I felt put off by her, thought what is she trying to convey about herself? Then in 2019 veiling was put on my heart, as well as learning more about Traditional Mass/Catholicism. That woman no longer attended the parish by this time. I had to confess this whole thing. There is a 16+/- minute video from Sensus Fidelium perfectly and pointedly explains veiling; women are symbols of Church as Bride within and without Church, symbol of obedience and Greek word for rebellion is apostasy, if we are not veiled we are unveiled and Greek derivative is Apocalypse. Veiling/head covered in Church was in Canon Law before VII. Today it is a woman's choice.I have never been asked about it but have received a few positive nostalgic comments. I'm sure I get the same thoughts I used to have, penance. A parish I attended with a few more women veiling I can't attend due to Mass abuses. It's how it has been put on your heart to show your love and obedience to the Lord, and worship Him, no one else. I am nobody, but I do humbly offer it when I think of it for the lack of reverence everywhere. Peace and prayers to you. 🙏♥️

I would like to encourage you to continue this heart building. This was done very well.
I wanted to add that turning the other cheek was actually a sign of protecting your dignity not your pride lifting upon someone criticism of your self. It’s western culture that changed the meaning to think it’s pridefulness not to turn the other cheek. Culturally a Roman could only strike you on your right cheek backhanded with only his right hand as a Jew(or later on Christian’s). If it was done any other way it would be taken improper on the Roman and misconstrued as you not being his inferior. Turning your left cheek did not allow him to strike you the same way again.
Your perspective on how to deal with the rising of pride is correct.

I don’t know a woman in this world who can remove her hair and put it back on to pray and prophesy. Also, check the use of the Greek word for veil/head covering used by Paul in the text. He is referring to a fabric or cloth that can be removed, not hair. The scripture is very very clear. Jesus prayed with something on His head while on the cross. A crown of thorns.
And they dressed Him in purple, and after twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on Him; and they began saluting Him: “Hail, King of the Jews!”
      -excerpt Mark 15
And Jesus, crying out with a loud voice, said, “Father, into Your hands I entrust My spirit.” And having said this, He died.
      -excerpt Luke 23
      *******************************************
At least twice a woman's hair was not only visible to Jesus Himself, but it touched Him. Neither woman was rebuked. Since Jesus didn't care about fabric head coverings why should we?
“Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you gave me no water for my feet, but she has wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. You gave me no kiss, but from the time I came in she has not ceased to kiss my feet. You did not anoint my head with oil, but she has anointed my feet with ointment. Therefore I tell you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven-for she loved much.
      -excerpt Luke 7
Mary then took a pound of very expensive perfume of pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped His feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. But Judas Iscariot, one of His disciples, the one who intended to betray Him, said, “Why was this perfume not sold for three hundred denarii and the proceeds given to poor people?” Now he said this, not because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief, and as he kept the money box, he used to steal from what was put into it. Therefore Jesus said, “Leave her alone...
      -excerpt John 12
      *************
It can only mean the hair is the covering, as the NASB states here:
Does even nature itself not teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a dishonor to him, but if a woman has long hair, it is a glory to her? For her hair is given to her as a covering.
      *********************************************************
doth not even nature itself teach you, that if a man indeed have long hair, a dishonour it is to him? and a woman, if she have long hair, a glory it is to her, because the hair instead of a covering hath been given to her; ...
      -Young's Literal Translation (YLT) 1 Corinthians 11 verse 13-15
      ************
No Old Covenant law requiring women to wear a fabric covering.
Therefore no Old Testament reference available.
1 Corinthians 11 starts with this:
...hold firmly to the traditions, just as I handed them down to you...
Be imitators of me, just as I also am of Christ.
Now I praise you because you remember me in everything and hold firmly to the traditions, just as I handed them down to you. But I want you to understand that Christ is the head of every man, and the man is the head of a woman, and God is the head of Christ. Every man who has something on his head while praying or prophesying disgraces his head. But every woman who has her head uncovered...
So, there was no Old Covenant law requiring women to wear a fabric covering. There was no time to establish a tradition of a fabric covering. There was no way to "hold firmly to the traditions" because you can't start a 'tradition' in a period of time that is just a few years.
      ************
If the covering was a physical covering, then hair length is
irrelevant. No one would know if the woman had long hair
      or no hair.
      ************
Also, if a woman needs to touch and pick up something physical, before
she can communicate with God, that would make the fabric covering
an idol. But one could also say it was a talisman I suppose, since a
talisman could be an article of clothing.
Talisman (basic definition)- a piece of clothing (or other physical object) that is
believed to have spiritual or magical properties. The object will align
with your intention for its use. Every time you look at a talisman, your
mind will recall the original intention of its use, until wearing it becomes
      a necessary ritual.
      ************
There is also an essay by 'FA'. It's about a 5 minute read.
The full essay is available if requested. Once again one must
keep in mind when reading the essay, that women were not
using a fabric covering as a requirement of the Law. So it was
not part of the culture then.
That is confirmed by the events of Jesus with the 2 women above
and also the scriptures that discourage women from braiding their hair.
If women were commonly wearing a head covering in public
no one would have known about this braiding.
Their head and hair would have been covered by the fabric.
...likewise also that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire,...
      -excerpt 1 Timothy 2 ESV
Do not let your adorning be external-the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear- but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart...
      -excerpt 1 Peter 3 ESV
Excerpt here of post by FA:
If these verses do not move you yet then here’s one that should definitely blow your mind. Paul asks you to make a judgment call in verse 13 as if one should naturally see a problem because he asks you to:
"Judge in yourselves: is it comely that a woman pray unto God uncovered?
" If “covering” really meant a veil then one would have to explain why anyone would possibly come up with a judgment that a woman praying or prophesying WITHOUT A FABRIC VEIL ON THEIR HEAD WOULD LOGICALLY OR NATURALLY LOOK WRONG? Someone needs to explain this logically. Be honest, does looking at someone doing this naturally create a thought that a veil is missing?

After 3 years i start to finally heal, and yet the devil sends ppl to destroy my peace in the midst of my healing process!!!! Im constantly praying to God for healing and protection!!! And i truly believe that God will protect me until it is my time to die!! Its scary, but i still need Gods protection, and peace! I pray everyday Lord when it is time for me to come home, it will be on your time, protect me until then!🙏 thankyou this video made me feel better!!!) You speak very well!!!

I just started listening to this video. I am also sensitive to criticism, but have been head covering for nearly 3 years. I have not experienced much, if any negative criticism so far. In fact, I've noticed that strangers in public show way more respect towards me than before I covered...which really humbles me and makes me more aware of how I behave towards others. It has also opened up conversation on at least 2 occasions, in which I was able to share my testimony on what brought me to start covering. In fact, one of my husband's friends wife asked me if I would make one for her, as I crochet my own head scarves. . I am typically shy about sharing the Gospel, (not because of shame of Jesus, but because of fear of criticism...sad but true). But this simple garment over my head exposes me to more opportunities to share the Gospel. I will not stop covering now that I've started. The conviction God placed on my heart is too strong to ignore it. I am in no way a good example of a follower of Christ. I just pray every day for God's forgiveness and ask Him to help me to be more like Christ. I love what you're saying about criticism. I really need to hear it. This is really blessing me. Thank you.

What you're saying is right. And good food for thought. I've often thought of the same. There are a lot of broken ppl out there. Including me. Thus making it more difficult to accept the criticism. And to not take it personal. Because it is, in essence a personal attack against whomever is the subject of the criticism. It is a catch 22. Wish we lived in a perfect world. But we do not. You're a wise young woman. I think you're doing exactly what you need to for you. I believe in the head coverings but have not worn them because no one else at my church does and I wanted to avoid the problems you're speaking of and not draw attention to myself by doing so. But at age 65 now I feel it's time to do what I feel us right and not worry about the rest and if I get criticized then pray that I'm able to respond in a Hodly way so as to please the Lord. ❤ love and blessings.

All the women in my church have been supportive so far which has been helpful, but Today i was rejected by a few people i was attempting to invite to VBS because they saw the head covering and assumed my identity. On one hand it helps me to hold more compassion for what Muslim women face, because i was being judged as one without even identifying as one. On another note it broke my heart, to see how hardened other people's hearts are. But it reminded me, Jesus himself was rejected and persecuted. I felt so discouraged, but i really think the Lord sent this my way to help comfort me

God bless you for your firm faith in our saviour! Thanks for this great video!
    7 Reasons for head covering
So the very first reason for head coverings is because of the created order. This is the foundation that Paul said “I want you to understand” (1 Cor 11:3a). This is not a cultural argument, but a transcendent argument as the Fathers headship is eternal and unchanging.
Because the ordinance of head covering is for certain times (v4-6), demonstrating a removable covering. (v6) It was to be worn during certain times (prayer and prophecy, or worship). This is not possible with hair. A man (men were instructed not to cover their heads) cannot remove his hair then put it back on when praying is done! “If a wife (woman) will not” demonstrates the covering was removable.
Because a woman’s hair (length according to the individual) is for her glory. (v15) Part of the purpose of the head covering is to veil this glory, not showcase it. Individual glory is the LAST thing any should want in the Presence of God!
Because this creates quite a quandary for women who cannot grow “long hair.” Think of Alopecia or many African women etc. Can they still pray and prophesy in certain settings? Regardless of hair length though, a covering can still be worn.
Because of the way verse six would read if we substituted “hair” or “long hair:” “If a wife (woman) will not [have long hair], let her cut her hair short…” Huh? She would already have done that! The whole point of that verse is to show the shame of her not covering.
Because it would be very odd if her symbol of authority in the presence of angels (v10) was one that gave her glory (v15), since the biblical testimony of angelic worship is not glory for angels, but angels showing humility and covering themselves. (Isa 6:1-3)
Because the Church agreed with the simplicity and power of this teaching for 1950 years, from the time of Apostles (v16) through the mid-Twentieth Century (1950-60s). We only began to disobey these precepts on a large scale when feminism hit the West like a tidal wave.

this comment is interesting . I saw old photos of Christian Jewish and Muslim women in the Middle East. They are all dressed very much how religious Muslim women dress today . Some of them even had face veils on exactly like Muslim women today .
Honestly if I saw the above woman outside I’d assume she was either Sikh Hindu, Romanian or Muslim . Christian no unless her crucifix was on show.
Because the hair is showing our front I would also
Assume it was “cultural dress “ rather than religious . Because culturallly across all indopak countries regardless of religion the scarf is worn as above . Sometimes it’s a square scarf as Italian old women wear in the villages .
I’m a Muslim woman I cover fully . Think long black loose dress and headscarf. And I veil the face also
I would say the associations to other religions shouldn’t matter . You know who you are covering for. People will use such arguments to deter you . If it’s not this argument others like “I’m afraid someone will attack you for looking like a Muslim “. Muslim parents say this to their kids today , sad but true
If it’s not there will be other arguments to deter you “ how will you get married “. “How will you get a job “. So many deterrents .
You need to keep in mind you are doing this to please your Creator no other reason

they're all the same 😂❤ Eastern Orthodox churches have the same doctrine and theology, different canon of saints, according to region. Russians will have some saints that Greeks and Serbs or Bulgarians don't and vice versa, but they all have in common the most prominent saints.
Keep in mind that there are also Oriental Orthodox churches, like Egyptian Coptic. They have a slightly different doctrine than the Eastern one and there was a whole schism in the past because of their understanding of the person of Christ Lord.
Look for a couple, visit, have a discussion with the priests there, and take time to take it all in.

You mentioned that you struggle with criticism about head covering which seems odd because I do not hear of such things perhaps it exists more in your area. Interesting that you mention that you feel intuitively that just by looking you can tell you are being criticized even if the person was silent. With this bit of information is it not possible that you may be reading more into their look? I say this to avoid creating certain feelings due to personal perception. Though there is nothing innately wrong with wearing a head covering as long as it is due to personal preference than something deemed obligatory and dogmatic. I hope God helps you with any struggles and that you seek him to understand his word.

Why should a Christian whose spiritual identity is essentially not a matter for public performance, unlike the habitus of moslems and Jews who call themselves pious (Haredi)? Headcovering in the Semitic and Graeco-Roman world view of the ancient world was a solution for a problem we don’t believe exists, because the hair of a woman is not considered the female equivalent of male testicles as they used to think. Perhaps modern moslems and Jews still think this way, but Christians don’t. So dressing like XIX c. Russian peasants doesn’t make any sense. It doesn’t bring anyone closer to God, amd prayers uttered by women with uncovered hair are heard because there is no shame praying uncovered (equivalent for the ancients to praying nude).

    • @righteousrebellion90
      @righteousrebellion90  Před rokem +3

It is biblical. And it actually can very much so bring you closer to God, as it can teach you both humility and modesty. Two attributes that God loves.

@@righteousrebellion90 lots of things can effect or inhibit religious progress but pharisaical vaunting of piety is not one of them. We do not live in the Roman world where the best science said hair is hollow and creates a vacuum attracting male seminal fluid. Again, maybe moslems and Jews think this way, but no modern Christian does. Unveiled women are not suctioning the semen of Asael, Satanael and the fallen angels these days.

I don't even think you understand why Christian women cover their heads....forget understanding, you don't even know. Nowhere in 1 Corinthians 11 did it mention that the hair is equivalent to a man's testicles. We do not veil for the same reasons as Muslims and Jews. The motive behind it is to show humility to God and serve as a reminder of the bridal relationship between Christ andd the chruch. We veil for God and not men

    • @claesvanoldenphatt9972
      @claesvanoldenphatt9972 Před 10 měsíci

@@ruhama02 of course I do not know what you feel about your own hair and covering it in church, nor do I want to as it’s a personal matter entirely. St. Paul writes in a very terse manner admonishing women who might show it in the first century Mediterranean world. The act of showing your hair had a totally different meaning then than it does now. Your own ignorance of what underlies St. Pauli’s terse saying, its background in first century ‘science’ and the Semitic mythology regarding Watchers being naturally attracted to women’s hair is no excuse for your own incomprehension of the topic. You could do a little research, go to the library and look up some texts on interlibrary loan if you are curious.
Hair covering seems a very emotional issue to you; it should not be. The Bride of Christ is no woman in church (perish the thought!) but the whole Church. Humility doesn’t require any particular manner of women’s dress except that it’s modest. You are applying antique Semitic notions to church life that have absolutely no meaning outside your sentiments.

    • @ruhama02
      @ruhama02 Před 10 měsíci +2

@@claesvanoldenphatt9972 Not to be rude but are you sure you even read what I wrote??. I never said the bride of the church is any woman, veil/head-covering serves as a reminder of the bridal relationship between the Christ and the Church, not the woman herself.
Another thing, you're talking about Mediterranean societal norms which I agree, is entirely different from today's society but 1 Corinthians 11 is not about societal norms but religious norms. I gave you the religious reasons for covering the hair not the societal ones.
If humility does not require any manner of dress except that it is modest, why are you so against head covering
