You guys are brilliant. Every laowai in China, me included, was addicted to your channel. I pretty frequently reference your episodes with my Chinese and laowai friends - we have these little in-jokes that include screaming out "WAITER" at the top of our lungs in American restaurants in the exact intonation from your sketch, or 猪屁股! (Man who could forget "NOBODY CARES That You Lived in CHINA"). In terms of what I think about the future of this channel - man, just keep doing what you love, and post without fear of what you think the audience will think. If you just want to post Scottish comedy sketches here from now on out, go for it! I can't tell how many times I've completely pivoted content on my own channel (and even the actual language of the content) - CZcams will find the right audience for your videos, and don't feel like you're tied down to doing exclusively China-expat comedy. Mamahuhu will never die!!!

    *THANK YOU FOR LAOWAI PARK!*
20th C History teacher, here. I have foreign students from PRC in class every year. Laowai Park is a great way to break the ice, and allow all of my students both Chinese and Western to have a chuckle at our cultural differences and develop understanding of one another. _Your work made/makes a difference,_ and Mamahuhu lives on in my classroom.
I miss the whole crew a lot. Those were indeed good days. Well done, thanks again, and best wishes on wherever the road may take you.

You were my bridge. I worked, lived, and studied in China. Shanghai was one of my many homes, and I recognized many locations in your videos. My friends and I were always watching your videos and comparing them to our lives. Whenever new people came to China, we would always show your videos. When people ask me about my wild life in China, I would show them Mamahuhu then talk about how somethings were not too far off. I can't wait to see your next work! My expat life moved me away from China back to the USA but am going to the UK next. I can't wait to see your work in the UK

I also left Shanghai in 2020 (no guesses as to why), but I still revist your videos from time to time. They give me a sense of nostalgia.
I'll be pretty interested to see what you come up with next!

Thank you, Alessio. I stayed in China for close to a decade, and when Mamahuhu was still active and making content I had a lot of fun sharing your videos with friends, both other expats and locals alike. It made life bearable whether I was freezing half to death in Dongbei and when I moved on to Shanghai. I look forward to what you do next, and I hope that China does play some part in it. You will know that feeling--China will always be a part of you, the way it is for me. Glad to see you're still going strong!

I found your channel while I was an expat living in Shanghai from 2016--2018. I taught English at an international high school in the Baoshan district, and I would show my 12th graders some of your episodes from time to time. We all thought they were hilarious. The highlight for me was when I met most of the Mamahuhu staff at a Mexican restaurant that we both happened to be dining at on Christmas Day 2017. I recognized Andy's voice, and sure enough you guys were seated right behind us! Great memories! Glad to see you back.

I followed your channel back in early 2015. After 15 years study in US and back to China, your video resonate me with all the multicultural experience I had. And I also had really good time with all the expats friend surround me at Shanghai back day. Although the situation for expats changed over the year, expats have added a new spice into shanghai's life. It is great to have a channel that shows the expat life in China. Great memories! Glad to see you back.

I love Mamahuhu because I believe it is a part of these old good days, where expats and locals do not rush to judge each other, but try to understand the cultural differences between us with curiosity, sometimes make fun of them. Perhaps this channel will not have many more brilliant new ideas for CZcams short films in the future, but I hope we could all keep the spirit of it and embrace new journeys in our lives with jokes and laughters. Thank you Mamahuhu, for everything we’ve had with you.

I want to thank you and all the Mamahuhu crew, as I discovered your channel soon after arriving in Shanghai myself in 2019 and your content kept me sane. Now 5 years later as I'm readying to return back to Canada I'm re-watching them all slowly and i feel a huge sense of loss as living in this city is/has been a great part of my life. Back when i first watched I knew zero mandarin, but now that I'm much more fluent I feel that all the stories touch me even closer...Wo ai nimen suoyouren...

I recall coming across Mamahuhu during my first stint in China (2011-2016) and loved it! Was sadden when the world shutdown and the content stopped. Glad you've been able to find your footing. Will check out the stuff you've mentioned working on as well as the new stuff. Personally, I'd like to see individual vids from the staff about their experiences as part of the MMHH crew and what they've been doing since.

I also, like many other commenters, found your channel while living in China between 2016-2019. I lived in Gansu, but when I did move to Suzhou and spent a bit of time in Shanghai, it was your videos that helped me figure the city out! I’ll be honest - I haven’t been the most consistent in watching CZcams content over the last few years with the rise of other platforms, BUT I do get the most nostalgia from here and will always keep coming back. In the times that I do return, I notice that the quality and direction of your content changes but the intent of bringing life to your visions remain the same. I hope you’ll continue creating - it’ll be here long after we’re gone! 加油吧!

You captured every emotion I had and encapsulated my heart. It’s depressing that the cast I grew up with has dissipated but that’s life. Even Friends and Seinfeld couldn’t go on forever. You ended on a high note. I am holding out for a reunion. As bonkers as China felt to me at times, it’s where my heart lives though I’m now half way across the world. If you’re ever in Austin, Tx. Oh man, mamahuhu resonates with me on such a deep level, it is so relatable and the nostalgia that your videos spark I am sure move every Shanghai expats heart. The implications of expat life, the diverging paths and finality of change can make sad, your videos always make me a little sad - but only because the memories they bring up are so beautiful. Looking forward to your upcoming projects, all the best!

The international content was your gold standard and I would lie nothing more than to see more of it.
I am personally not as interested in smaller local sketches. The emphasis on international experiences, cross cultural interactions and comical take on these is what has made and will hopefully continue making this channel shine in the future.

  • @choudelaposte8101
    @choudelaposte8101 Před 4 měsíci

Oh it is so nice to get an update from Mamahuhu. You guys gained fans for life in the expat community. A quick thought for you Alessio and request for feedback: understanding, “getting” international interactions is a rare thing, and you guys got it right. As much as I wish you good luck in any project you decide to take on, I cannot help but hope you will find a way to bring back more cross cultural content and perhaps consult on bigger projects. For those of us who forever are in a multicultural environment, there is very little out there that approaches all the weirdness and humour of it. Have you considered also looking in the weirdly complicated European relations between neighbouring countries. Perhaps a channel like Arte or a European art program would sponsor comedy around European cultural weirdness and mishaps. No matter what you do in the end, I’m hoping to see it. Thank you for making our expat years in China so much funnier. 🎉

Great to see an update on this channel. Some of these sketches certainly brightened some tough days one inevitably has living in China for 15 years. I moved away from Shanghai about 2 years ago. Having this multi-cultural upbringing there is definitely the biggest and coolest takeaway for me.
I started making music for film and video games while living in Shanghai and I'm still doing it, and it's always great to see other creatives getting started in China and then transitioning to other locations and continuing their creative adventures. The "Expats" concept will definitely be something near and dear for many of us that shared the China experience over the years. Looking forward to what you guys come up with next! And if you ever need original music from a fellow ex-expat - hit me up )

I found your channel during COVID-19, as a foreign Chinese from Indonesia I found your channel hilarious and educational since I was planning to move to China someday. Sad to see you not do things in China anymore, but whatever you do in the future I am sure most of the community will support you.

I'm 67% sure you don't remember me, but I got together with you and the entire gang at Laowai Park back in 2018 for an evening of giggles and drinks. Good times!

I'll still listen, my guy. Not many people understand life as an expat and if you can roll that into another channel, I am with you. I am interested to see where you go from here, even if it is not called MamaHuHU

Like for so many others, Mamahuhu was an important part of my life in Shanghai and I remember being super excited when I got tickets for the short film screening.
I'm now living in the UK, working on becoming a screenwriter, and while I of course miss mamahuhu content, I would definitely like to see where your journey leads you next - and who knows? Maybe we end up working together one day 😁.

Been watching you since your prank skits on Youku, I think they went under the name Monkey Kingz back then. But, only after watching the sketch about how Matt helps janitors to clean the streets on SH, I became a fan. I remember thinking to my self, "Jokes aside, this is a great video and an amazing idea".
Damn, now I want to find it and watch it again 😅

One of my biggest regrets is not asking to be in a Mamahuhu Sketch. I was performing comedy with many of the comedians from the videos. One evening Mamahuhu filmed a sketch after the comedy show. I was too nervous and intimidated to ask to be an extra in the video. I looked up to all the comedians and actors from the shorts and didn't think I was good enough to be in the videos. I have gone on to make many sketches with the Mamahuhu cast(Adam, Jorge, Dawn and Norah) But still regret never been in a Mamahuhu Video.

I would never miss a posting of Mamahuhu, after all, it helped me to cope when my Chinese wife left me, and our daughter. This was certainly a time when I needed a really good chuckle. Now, I have a lovely mixed daughter with me while her mom has become an illegal immigrant in the US. The only thing I really miss through all of this time is, Shanghai, and Mamahuhu.

China was in a completely different place back when you started making these videos. They were much more open and way less sensitive to anything and everything. I left China back in 2022 after 8 years there, no guesses as to why, it's pretty obvious. I used to love your videos during my stay there.
