- Vice Grip Garage is completely out of room, so we're adding some more shelter space for equipment and vehicles. This will be a budget barn, with no electric or plumbing, but provide covered shelter.

I kinda wonder sometimes, if it's really any 'fun' anymore for the super successful CarTube guys. Every other week, it's a new build, and then its gone and off to the next one. At some point, it has to stop being fun, and just becomes a job. Not to mention the crazy amount of time spent editing to make videos, and all the other things going on 'behind the scenes'.
@@floodx4947 I'm guessing it's not as fun. But at the same time, he's adding property and providing for his family's future. And he's his own boss and can quit anytime he wants. There is fun in that.

Parting with some of your vehicles may be hard right now but please take comfort in that every one that you pass on, ignites a dream in someone else. By you getting the real hard work done, finding the great vehicles that can be restored, you give a jump start to a lot of us guys who would just like to have one car to work on. Just to think, I joined when you had about 2k subs, videos were done by what I’m assuming is a flip phone duct taped to the neighbor kids forehead, and look at you now, prime real estate in tenesee, One dream man cave, soon to be TWO, and all the toys and gadgets to boot. I’m so proud of you, Jessica and all the boys for grinding this out. I always told you in comments that I really seen you going miles, and you’ve went thousands past what I anticipated. Building large buildings to store your stuff? Niiiice. The spoils of success. I was with you way back when. Back when you were fixing lawn mowers and dirt bikes on your vids. We came a long way. Back then I was watching by the window, now I watch by the other window. Crazy I know.
This reminds me of when I was 5 and watching them build a subdivision next to our house, all the while playing with my construction Tonka toys just our side of the property line.
The construction guys were kind and let me snoop at what they were doing at the end of their day as long as I kept out of the way most times and eventually gifted me a small hard hat. :)

But I didn't see them install any rebar or wire mesh in the slab. Just rebar in the footings and post footings.
Glad you're giving those rescues a home out of the elements...I'm sure it's a relief to now save them and give them a chance to survive longer term. I have one outside and the rest in my barn and it's bothering me alot to not have the room.

Derek is definitely deserving of his success. The guy is always working on something and filming it for us and now travelling for MotorTrend and who knows what else. I sure do appreciate a fellers hard work.
Would you consider doing a property tour video? I understand not showing the home or exact location but I’d love to see the pond and pasture areas and how that all lays out on the property. I hope to retire to that area in about 10-15 years and have been fortunate to spend some time very near you in the last few years as some friends have retired out down there.
the trouble is people can geo locate areas just by looking at the video and picking out details from the background. power lines or landmark buildings can be a dead giveaway for your location.
showing a water feature would make it really easy to locate using something simple as google maps.
I have the same plan but about 5 years away from starting my real search. I'd love to see a bit of the land, minus any location details of course.

I totally understand the privacy aspect of not doing it. I just really like that part of the country and always wanna see what’s on the other side of a tree line or hillside.

I'm glad you're building some storage. You bring home some nice vehicles alongside the rusty rescues so it will be nice to keep them out of the elements.

it's always interesting to see how the different regions of the country do building and concrete. Up here in the dry side of Washington state we get some serious freeze/thaw cycles. Winters get down around zero F, summers up to 109-ish, sometimes hotter, colder as well. A 4000 psi is a good strength for footings, slabs, retaining walls are sometimes higher strength depending on the multitude of variables. When the crew makes it look easy, you know they've got the experience. That's a good looking slab. Up here we'd use a heavy wire mesh or a rebar grid in that slab. That adds a lot to the cost, nice that you don't need it.

Derek, as a 20 year concrete professional I can say Smyrna Ready Mix is one of the best in the business. Mr Hollingshead stands behind his product. On a side note that front discharge mixer is built by the Hollingshead’s. Beautiful trucks.

I recently rebuilt my old shop that had been burned. I used tin roofing, but I also had used some clear/opaque fibreglass roof sheets. No need for power. Super bright inside, even on a rainy day.

Congrats on all the success you've had with your format. I initially started watching years ago when you had maybe 29,000? or so followers and I think maybe your most watched video had 350K views. I believe that was the white Pickup you and your son pulled out of the weeds. That was a great video and may have been the first of yours that I watched.
I love that format of "let's fix up this old rusty POS and get it driving again". I love seeing old derelict things restored. This VGL channel is a great "behind the scenes" and lifestyle type format and really fills out the character and lifestyle we see in VGG.

This is really exciting. Happy for you man. Make sure you get compaction reports for the grade and slump test on the concrete. I’d add socked corrugated pipe to the wall in back because, you know, water. I’m sure your engineer has it all figured out. Can’t wait to see the finished product. Love all your channels man. With as much and as hard as you work, it's ok to show off a little bit of your riches. You don't always have to act like you're just above water. Things like small or budget build, should not have to be used. Just simply say I needed more storage so here is my new barn. No matter what, we will still watch. Rather you're just above water or you're living good. It does not matter. You deserve all the success and things that come with it. My favorite barn is a monitor barn. One day, I will build a barndominium out of a monitor barn

With no power, some solid solar flood lights where you can put the fixtures in the building but the mini solar panel is on a cord that you can run out the top to the roof is a must. No lighting sucks

I use to deliver Readymix Concrete back in the Late 80's through Mid 90's.. ...( glad you went with a 4000 pound mix )..
I remember making comments about the Vibrator / " Divorce Maker ".. I remember saying .. " If i brought that thing home to my wife.. She'd leave me forever " Anyway.. Glad to see the second shop getting built .. Hope it all works out

Storage is always the biggest pain for hot rodders, congrats on the expansion! There's always too many good deals, too many half finished projects waiting on parts, one or two you don't want anyone to see, never enough space for it all...
I really would like to have seen a french drain system up against that wall by the pond to move the overflow you said you sometimes get. In Commifornia we have to have them on any type of retaining type wall.
My thoughts, exactly. If you're doing THIS much, to keep water out, why not add the French drain, too.
They can still add it before they concrete over that area. They can put a channel drain in the concrete and filter that water down into the drain system and away to a lower area of the property. I’d also like to see some waterproofing against that wall. I do this every day so I’m sorry if give my opinion on how I would do it. I’m sure they have their reasons.
