  • Today I am answering some questions that quite a few of you have been asking. What color should you use? So were getting right into color selection of Down South Lures, or any artificial baits.

    What are your favorite Down South lure colors?

      White Ice and Flamingo Shad. Both very productive colors in clearer water. Blue moon burner shad have done really well for me as of late. Coastal Marsh High cotton is a winner but that is a whole new can of worms.

      Chris Ong thank you! Strawberry wine is a color I need to use more often. I caught a ton on it last year and only used it a handful of times since then.

    Perhaps what has become customary with your videos is once again demonstrated with this soft plastics vid. Extremely informative, a topic that plays a part in every inshore anglers tackle box, well thought out, organized, concise as well as easily understood logic. If an inshore angler has a notion to follow some of your suggestions, he/she just may become more successful at their craft.
    You always do a great job, motivate me to continue to improve my own skill sets and make me look forward to the next trip on the water to implement a few things I have learned. Thanks Mike!

  • @BoxingFishingGuy

    You did not mention light conditions. Sunny days in clear water I usually don’t want something with sparkle or glitter: go realistic. Murky and sunny: I would go dark without sparkle. Cloudy and clear: I go lighter with a little flash: bone diamond, that ice color, something maybe with some silver that captures whatever limited light there is. And now low light or cloudy and clear: something dark with some sparkle or flash. Maybe fire Tiger or something similar. I would use the bigger down south if the bait the fish are feeding on is bigger. Or maybe if ifs murky, the bait will have more of a presence moving through the water. Smaller if the fish are feeding on small shrimp, or baitfish. Smaller also if the water is more on the clear side.

    Hi Mike, Great educational video. I've been looking for one on this very topic for some time. Thanks for covering it so thoroughly. I took tons of notes...Here's a question: where can I find the pearl and pearl chartreuse? The Downsouth Lure website does not have them and I have not been able to find them. Your thoughts? Tommy

    So what about South Coast Lures and the video you had touting them and them making your own lures?

    • @TexasFishingForce
      @TexasFishingForce  Před 4 lety +1

      We dropped South Coast tackle due to poor business practices and quality. I mentioned it in a video awhile back but didn’t want to bad mouth the man. Not my intention at all. Just can’t do business with them.

      I prefer the super model. Easier to work in the water, better profile. I do switch to the regular shad when I get short bites or if I’m running with a spinner or popping cork.

    • @TexasFishingForce
      @TexasFishingForce  Před 4 lety +1

      Are you talking about painted jigheads, like the red or chartreuse jigheads? I’ve used both and don’t see a huge difference in catching more or less fish so I generally stick to the traditional.

      Texas Fishing Force Mike, the DSL website shows a “Southern Shad”, is that a 4th option or it that just another name for the original?
      Are there any tips on when to use each size; such water depth or something?
      To limit how many I have; I am better off with 3 size and just a few colors or 1 size in many colors?

    • @TexasFishingForce
      @TexasFishingForce  Před 4 lety

      John Houston so DSL has 3 sizes . “Southern shad” is the standard original size, Super Model is larger version and the “burner shad” is the small version. I use mainly the original and super model but will pull out the burners on occasion. I switch depending on the size of bait I see. If I see a lot of bait, I generally go to super model to get a bigger profile.
      I would suggest starting with a few colors is southern shad and super model and add from there. If I had to pick 5 colors to use, I’d go with color x, purple reign, pearl chartreuse, chartreuse flash and bone diamond.
