      I'm pretty sure that there are plenty of lgbtqi+ independents running or welcome to run. I don't think Galloway is hostile to lgbtqi+ people insomuch as he wears his Catholicism on his sleeve - his schtick is more traditional in that advocating for the working class whatever their identity is prioritised rather than pitting lgbtqi+ against more socially conservative people and letting dishonest actors split the class. It might not be your thing, but I don't think you can deny that the working class are fucked right now whatever their identity.

      A lot of people will vote for them, precisely because they want an economically socialist party without all the 'wokery' of the Left. Galloway isn't anti gay, he supported same sex marriage, but he doesn't believe it should constantly be pushed down our throats, that people can literally change sex, and he has always opposed abortion on religious grounds. Many agree with him, and even if they don't, his views are valid and should be respected. There is also no sense in socialists supporting open borders, which every trade unionist used to know.

    I'm not sure Starmer is such a good liar. Just look at his face when the presenter announces the clip she's about to play. It's the face of a "dog ate my homework" excuse peddler who's just been found not to live with a dog. He is a prolific liar, but that's not the same thing.

    I've voted SNP since I was old enough to vote, but if Forbes was to run and win I could no longer do so. I suspect that would be the case for many of their younger and leftist voters. It seems like Scottish Labour has an opportunity here to appeal to the left but they've been so toothless for so many years, I'd be surprised to see it.

    • @user-hs4ti2dg6l
      @user-hs4ti2dg6l Před měsícem +3

      Blithering nonsense of course. Scotland exports electricity to England, and this would be a key resource for an independent Scotland. Wind turbines take up very little room, and are mostly sited on areas that are of limited agricultural value.

      @@user-hs4ti2dg6l, which aspect do you believe to be nonsense? I am currently looking at a huge wind farm in the Highlands that is switched off for up to 50% of the time, as the 'free market economy' approach states that there is no need for power. Heaven help us. We would not want cheaper electricity. The Highlands is dependent on tourism, and even though many wind farms exist in the area, the residents pay disproportionately the highest energy bills.

    • @Janos23
      @Janos23 Před 28 dny +1

      @@Uduwerage That's not why, they're switched off because the grid can't handle spikes of input. It's a physics thing, it's actually surprisingly difficult to deal with excess electricity when there isn't much being used on a national level. The infrastructure required is both complicated and costly, and with all the government cuts from westminster Scotland has less and less money with which to invest in energy infrastructure. *THAT* is the problem that needs addressing. It's nothing to do with the free market and whoever told you that is lying to you. Ask yourself why that is and what they'd gain from making you think that.

    • @Uduwerage
      @Uduwerage Před 28 dny

      @@Janos23, the energy companies in this are receive millions of pounds in constraint payments in order to not produce electricity, and yes I am only too aware of the need to upgrade the network. This is another issue that is negatively impacting the Highlands of Scotland.

    • @Janos23
      @Janos23 Před 28 dny

      @@Uduwerage True, but the millions of pounds are in government subsidies that are a normal part of a government's energy investments for the future. In Scotland, we have it better the rest of the Uk at least, though as you say, not perfect, but at least the companies aren't getting the money and are allowed to do whatever they want without consequence, (thank the Tories for this once again), I'd say that's worth mentioning.
      And about upgrading the network, I'm not exaggerating when I'm saying actually dealing with that capacity would be a massive investment. Unfortunately, green energy companies can't afford it even with government subsisides (paying them to do nothing actually works out cheaper depressingly enough) because the UK forces them to keep their prices high enough so that fossil fuels can compete with them, which even pro-free marketeer types should be against, but as we know with the Tories, they're only for the free market when it benefits them. I'm personally very much on the left, but this is one of those issues where it's a lot more complicated than it seems on the surface.
