    Never make metal to metal contact when repairing or servicing a sewing machine. Use wooden tooth picks or plastic. Check needle plate for burrs and pitting. Also, check to see if hook is sharp and burr free.

      If you are taking it to an authorized Bernina Dealership, you are getting more than that. This basic cleaning should be done several times per year at home. Your yearly servicing should include the tech taking all the covers off and cleaning and oiling all the inside moving parts and then there is a service program they run, with many checks and tests for the computer. Then any repairs or adjustments from there. We also will update your software. Its several hours worth of work, usually.

    • @berninaboys100
      @berninaboys100 Před 5 lety +3

      We do a lot more than this when we service a machine. We take all the covers off, clean and lubricate all moving parts, and make sure all adjustments are set to factory settings. This video covers what you should have been taught in your instructional classes that came with the purchase of your machine.

    Thanks for the interesting videos. Unfortunately the Bernina manual is very short. Do you know how to reset the service display of a Bernina B530 that comes after 2Mio. stitches? I am sure that there is no special service necessary every 2Mio. stitches or every few months...

    • @berninaboys100
      @berninaboys100 Před 7 lety

      2 million stitches is quite a few. Most sewers take a few years to reach that. It is important to have it serviced by your dealer every time that light comes on. The dealer will service parts of your machine that you cannot. They will reset the light with a service.

    Nice little video! Thanks! I was trying to figure out how to get access to the tension discs to clean them of lint. I inadvertently unscrewed the screw holding the bobbin winder stop too far and the nut underneath fell down inside the machine casing. How do I get the casing open to retrieve and reinstall it? Thanks in advance! Deb

    • @berninaboys100
      @berninaboys100 Před 8 lety

      That is no easy task. Even if you get your covers off you will still have quite a few things to disassemble. I recommend taking it to your dealer. One thing you can try is removing the side cover by your hand-wheel. Take the small screw out of the hand wheel, loosen the clutch release, and take all of that off. There will be one more screw right above that under a small cover. Lastly, remove the screw from the bottom of the machine that holds that cover on. After the cover is off, tip the machine on its side and see if the part you are looking for falls out. If it does, see if you can figure out a way to get it back into place. If it doesn't, take it to your dealer. It could have gotten caught in your gears and that could end up being an expensive repair down the road. Get it taken care of now before more damage is done. Good luck.

    • @debwalker3422
      @debwalker3422 Před 8 lety +1

      Hi! Thanks for the reply! God hates a coward, so I carefully took the back & side covers off as you suggested. I got lucky and the little square black 'nut' came tumbling out as I leaned the machine on its side. I was worried about it getting stuck in the gears - wow - there are a ton of them over on that side - I had no idea - but it makes sense now that I think about it. But I had heard it tinkle on a bunch of stuff when it came loose and hit the bottom of the case, so I was pretty sure it was below everything - just did not want to leave it there for some future disaster - and I wanted my bobbin stop back! I was also able to clean a lot of things per your video. I found the culprit messing up my stitches too which I would not have found had I not taken the back off. It was a little piece of thread stuck in the tension disc area. I got that out, cleaned & oiled according to your video and I'm back in business. I still feel the stitches are 'sloppy,' not over or under tensioned, just a bit sloppy, not sure what that's about - maybe I'm just a bad seamstress, but the machine should really do it all by itself. I tried a different size needle, but that did not help. Anyway - thanks for your help & nice videos! Deb

    Hi. I have an Activa 140 which I purchased in 2000. I had to have the mother board replaced under warranty because machine would Cut out, turn off for a second and restart with default of straight stitch. Very frustrating when doing a fancy stitch or buttonholes. I haven't been sewing with this machine very much over the past few years because the issue has returned. One thing I have noticed is that the cut out doesn't happen as much if the machine has warmed up. Even using a dedicated outlet doesn't help. Is there something I can do to fix this without going to the expense because it is out of warranty? Thank you.

It seems that the little light that controls the movement of the ball have fused and so I have to shine a light inside the machine every time I want to change a setting. • @berninaboys100

      There is are sensors on the circuit board that can be replaced. This sometimes fixes the problem. Bernina still makes parts for that machine so there is no need to get rid of it. This repair is something that only an authorized Bernina repair shop can perform.
