We just had our primary elections two days ago in KY. There were five or six other people running against Rand Paul for the spot on the R ballot. Rand got over 86% of the vote and stuff like this is exactly why. He’s a great senator.

@@HamiltonSurrey While it's a miniscule amount comparitively, the mindset is what matters. The debt wasn't made in a day, nor will it be paid in a day. Getting into the mindset that prevents wasteful spending is the only way we're going to be able to fix any aspect of the problem.
This kind of spending would be wasteful even if we _weren't_ in debt. We have people and projects in america that could have used that money. Our economy should not have such a large flow of money going out, nor should we be expected to.
It's encouraging to read all the positive comments here. But let us remember most of the people who need to hear this will never see it unless it's on NPR, NBC, CNN, BBC, CNN, MSNBC, etc.. I saw many videos on Telegram that showed what the azov’s were doing to the citizens, confirming what you saw. The more first hand accounts of what the US ‘war machine’ is supporting, the better. The “news” is as corrupt as our government so it’s hard to get the actual facts to a place where people are even willing to look at the evidence and decide for themselves. His explanation of why inflation in high, why food and fuel prices have increased, is insufficient, he is either honestly mistaken or deceitful.
Higher food prices are caused by Russia blockading Ukrainian ports, Ukraine is the world's largest exporter of wheat and is an important exporter of other vital food staples. Most of the exported food goes, or used to go to Africa, the Middle East and a lesser extent Central and South America.
This shortfall in food exports resulted in a massive increase in global food prices, often to their highest point in history. This in turn threatens famines in Africa, the Middle East and hardship in Latin America. Ukraine's food exports are also used for animal feed, so meat prices are up too. They were also one of the world's largest exporters of nitrate fertilizer, crop yields drop 2 to 5-fold without fertilizer. This commodity price increase, increased US inflation, now at 8.5% (food prices are up 11%). Russia is weaponising food, threatening to cause, price hikes, food shortages, famines that will provoke waves of immigration and further damage the economy of Europe and the US (migrants will not, cannot get to Russia, so they will sit pretty).
Russia is holding the world hostage, not just Ukraine, as the food stuck in Ukraine is the World's food. Helping Ukraine win, end this war as soon as possible, unblock and retains its ports, will reduce food prices, reduce inflation and in turn aid the US economy.
A drop in inflation will benefit the US many times more than the $60 billion spent supporting Ukraine.
There are 129 million households in the US, each spent an average of c. $60,000 per year (2020, pre inflation). If the war in Ukraine ends this summer, in part due to US support, and inflation decreased to 4% over the last half of the year i.e. Inflation halved, US households will save $1200 each, and $155 billion nationally in 6 months. This is the polar opposite of what Senator Paul claims, so much so I don't understand if he is severely uninformed or deliberately deceitful.
It might be explained by his myopic libertarian views, an inability to see the larger picture, an unwillingness to see how spending some money helps the US economy in the long term.
The other factor of course is oil and gas. European countries and the US imposed embargoes and refuse to pay Russia in roubles, otherwise effectively paying for Ukraine's destruction. Again, ending this war as soon as possible, to the benefit of Ukraine, ensuring Ukraine retains its ports (Odessa) and its economy / its farmland, ending the necessity for oil and gas embargoes, benefits the world's economy and in turn the US. Why can't he understand this simple equation?
He then, for the rest of his speech, most of his speech, explains that it's a lot of money and a lot of money was previously spent. That does not explain why the US should not aid Ukraine.
The best way to increase US government earning is via increase taxation, of the rich. However, Senator Paul repeatedly voted in favour of tax cuts for the rich and large profitable companies.
