My wife and I went to Cefalu and Taormina this past fall. Cefalu called to me because my great grandparents are from there. I immediately feel in Love. I would love to retire there. Not sure my wife has the same thoughts though 😉 She is not sold on living out of US yet (plus grandkids and all here in USA) I might be able to sell her on 6 months a year though or something like that. I am going to subscribe to your channel now!

My wife and I just visited a friend/brother in Palma di Montechiaro and I must say Sicily also went into my blood !!! Santo Stefano di Camastra… Spectacular!!!
This couple have documented more of that island than anyone else in history at this point. You can write a book on the island.

Love this short video. I find it amazing that Alfred thinks and feels about Sicily the same way I do, which is also one of the reasons I enjoy his books so much. In fact, I couldn’t believe it when I heard him talking about being ‘a square peg in a round hole’ until he moved the Sicily. - I’ve said the same thing. I too am 100% Sicilian and grew up with my parents and grandparents speaking dialect at home. Sicily calls to me and when I am there and I feel like I’ve come home.

I love that you refer to your grandparents as "nanna and nannu" and not nonna and nonno. When I visited my family in Motta d'affermo, my own cousin corrected my pronunciation and I told him I grew up hearing Sicilian spoken, not Italian! My neighborhood in NJ was populated by immigrants from Motta and Santo Stefano de Cammastra and they all spoke Sicilian. Now they likely wouldn't be understood in their own hometowns!
The Palermo cathedral is one of my favourites.

I’m looking at the possibility of moving to Sicily and hoping to find someone who can show me the true feel and sense of what it is like living there, including interacting with natives, not the tourist part. Are you willing to house people (willing to pay a fee) to show me the true culture and experience of living there? Or have a recommendation of an inexpensive place to stay and show me around (and I would be happy to pay you for your time)?

I have been offered a rent-free tiny cottage in Sicily by relatives and am seriously considering it. I am so sick of the political nonsense/communist agenda here in America, I'm just craving tradition and civility. There's just no happiness here, everyone is miserable, whatever side you're on. If I do make the move, it won't be till 2025 which gives me lots of time to binge-watch your videos. Thank you for this series, and also, I'd love to see more interviews with your sweet friend Stephania, if she is so inclined.
