People with a 34 inch inseam and shorter would fit just fine in it. My legs are longer than that, and I still fit. No trouble driving it. Was not expecting that low end torque. It's somewhat alien to experience it in something this small and light. There are just some things that Mitsubishi got 100% right in the '90s. It's because of those years that I'll always be a fan. I hope you can continue to highlight other hidden gems on their lot. Thanks again Duncan... and Mitch... I mean Tom...

@Power 2 Weight Too long. The Elantra put me in sort of a quandary. Neither the Colt nor the GSX will be a stock build. The info in those videos will help people less than the stock parts build that went into the Elantra. The Elantra more closely resembles the parts and challenges that most people would be standing over. That's why I did that one first. I don't regret it. I think it's a good study, and it's such a pile that it gave us lots of great troubleshooting info. I'm facing some other real challenges right now with things that happen to cars that sit as a result, but 2019 is all about fixing all of those things and moving the ball. I've been hoarding parts and tools during this time working on my garage and production tools to get ready for what's next. You'll still see the Elantra, but hopefully only on the dyno and likely several videos of it breaking its own records. I've got good plans for that one while the GSX gets built.

To be clear, the Kei car has been a staple of the Japanese domestic market since 1949. You can read more about it here (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kei_car). The short-lived thing Tom's talking about is the hot hatch era of the 80's where JDM marquee were testing the boundaries of performance in a decidedly nonperformant segment. It's all very 80's. Many manufacturers still build performance versions of various Kei lines to this day, so it never really went away.

Just for who are curious about what the label on the visor said,
(My english isnt the greatest, so there might be mistake in english)It said the following:
    Alarm light(Red)
When the light turn on while you drive, stop at a safe place and stop the engine, and go find the service plant(?)(idk how to translate that)
The light will stay on untill the problem is fixed
However, the light will turn on once when you start the car for checking
    Skills(?) to start the engine
    When the engine is cold
Dont step on the accel paddle(throttle) while starting it
    When the engine is warm
    1. Step on the accel paddle more than half way through while staring the engine. Dont move the accel paddle(means that dont move the throttle position) while starting the engine.
    2. Slowly let go of the accel paddle after you start the engine.
It will be easier to turn the engine on when you turn off other electronic stuff.

    • @paxhumana2015
      @paxhumana2015 Před 5 lety

It should actually read, "When the light turns on as you are driving down the road, you need to stop at a safe place, stop the engine, and go find the nearest service station for your car." "Here are some tips for starting the engine. When the engine is cold, don't step on the acceleration paddle (that is, the throttle) while starting the engine." "This is what you are to do when the engine is warm. 1. You are to step on the acceleration paddle more than halfway through while starting the engine. Don't move the acceleration paddle (that is to say, don't move the throttle position) while you are starting the engine. 2. You are to slowly let go of the acceleration paddle after you start the engine." "Doing this will make it easier to turn the engine on whenever you turn off all of the other electronic functions in your car."

I'm in the UK, but have driven in Europe a lot, so use to switching from right to left, including driving stick. 12 years ago I was lucky enough to work for a US based company, whereby I was invited to visit the office in San Diego. I hired a Ford Tarus with a manual gearbox, my American colleagues were amazed when I turned up, 1) for driving a manual and 2) for driving at all! 😁
Little did they know that I had been driving around Europe for years in rentals, so had plenty of experience 😁

That car is under 1500 pounds and seats 4?? I'd love to see a size comparison next to the Miata!

That's about the same weight as the classic Mini, and it fit 4 adults.
PS: Only the Mini could be had with a little more power - up to 85hp from the Australian Cooper S version - and atrocious reliability (thanks to Lucas, the Prince of Darkness.) Still love 'em, though. :-D
