[Original] Seems To Be In Working Condition (YM2203, OPN)

  • An original tune I wrote for Out of Time 2, a chip jam where you had to write something within 2 weeks. After the jam, I decided to fix some things with instruments. For one, I disabled the LFO from certain instruments, which had Freq, PMS and AMS. This was written in BambooTracker, and my only guess is that the LFO is present in the OPNA and not the OPN (I dunno, I'm not too knowledgeable on the OPN).
    Anyhoot, here's the tune. Enjoy! :)

    The YM2203 is one of the strangest FM-PSG chips ever. There needs to be more oscilloscope views of it!

      The YM2203 is basically a YM2149 (based on the AY-3-8910) but with 3 FM voices added.

      Used among others in the Terra Cresta arcade machine. I grew up with the SSG version.

      It’s like an Ay-3 and a 3-voice FM chip glued together on one DIP package. They literally share none of the pins

    I built an OPN hat for the raspberry pi and this sounds great on the real chip

    How do you get the echo, like the precise time difference of the sqr waves? also is it possible to change the duty cycle of the waves some how?

    • @MarisaStoleThePreciousHandle
      @MarisaStoleThePreciousHandle Před 2 lety +3

      No, you can't change the duty cycle of the square waves on the YM2203. This also applies to other Yamaha FM chips that have SSGs embedded into them.

      Echo? Just play the same note in another channel with a delay. The time lag can be defined as you like.
