    Passed through Culloden many a time. It is still to this day, an eerie, boding place. You CAN feel the heavy atmosphere, the utter silence of the place. The video to go with the music is very apt. Thank you. To all the Clansmen who fell that fateful day, My own Clan is Cameron, you will never be forgotten. We may not take to arms in our fight for Independence, rest assured it will happen. Thig ar latha

    I am a Scot living on England so thank you for this video. I've visited Culloden twice - many years apart and its great to see them restoring the battlefield to how it would have looked in 1745. May all the souls rest in peace.

    I also had ancestors that died for the Jacobite cause. Culloden is a great museum with a very moving re-enactment. It is haunting and poignant. 2000 Highlanders died that day and the rest were hunted down and executed. It was a military disaster and poor leadership for the Jacobites. As with the Irish the British were ruthless in quelling any dissent. The Scots were robbed of their lands and many fled to the New World. May all who died there rest in peace.

    On our tour we visited this sacred battlefield and were humbled as we found that our ancestors fought in this battle, I recently discovered that through my DNA I have Scottish lines, I'm so proud as my father loved this land he never laid eyes on.

    I visited Culloden a few years ago and I felt the eeriness that haunts this place.It was a stupid young man`s decision to fight in the wrong place ,using the wrong tactics, that caused this disaster ,and the outright butchery that followed !
    My own Clansmen fell along with the other "Flowers of our Country " I hope we never forget them .They were Patriots of their Country and are buried where they fell ! Alba Gu Brach .

      +James Cameron Your information is wrong. He was not "stupid" and it was not his choice. You are using information which was put out as propaganda by Cumberland and has been taught as history since. Suggest you consult Dr. Christopher Duffy's history which tells what really happened.

    @BillDFC A generation of highland warriors were destroyed in one way or another. And if you consider the lasting effect it had on the clans, even to this day, it's so much more than numbers.

  • @BillDFC
    @BillDFC Před 12 lety +3

    This day was a watershed. The clan system was ended as was the Stuart cause. The Highland way of life and it's language and culture died on the field of Drummosie. The anglo saxon had conquered the gael.

    What can you say about this place? It is infused with profound sadness born from very deep loss; no birdsong brings relief from the dreadful things that happened here - the soul and human spirit die in such places as this.

  • @sladlad
    @sladlad Před 6 lety

    the whole thing was a sad affair, ending 175 years of civil wars, rebellion, and bloodshed in the name of stuart, many who quite rightly condemn the "butcher" cumberland for the slaughter that day , conveniently forget that charles had also given the order that no quarter was to be allowed, they were bad times for britain in general, but particulary sad for scotland

  • @BillDFC
    @BillDFC Před 14 lety

    @ghough12 Not really a massacre on a grand scale. There has been much,much worse in this land in terms of numbers killed in battle.

  • @ThatFatPlumber
    @ThatFatPlumber Před 11 lety +2

    No as the there was many a Scot fighting against the Jacobite cause and many a highland clan member. The Jacobite rebellion was not Scotland vs England but a British civil war it's just a shame the English Jacobite's pussied out when the Jacobite's marched through England no lies about an army in London could have stopped the clans then.

    • @iainooooo
      @iainooooo Před 8 lety +2

      ThatFatPlumber for me it was in great detail war against england those men in the gov army fought for the crown of london and all the rest a reaction to 100's of years of oppression in the name of the crown land,money,farming,military

    • @alessandrabengalensis9393
      @alessandrabengalensis9393 Před 7 lety

      And yet, had the Stewarts been restored to the throne, one has to wonder if their old doctrine of the divine right of kings would've come back into being. That would have set back the right of the people to have a voice and a share in the government. That said, the draconian response, the Clearances, was overreaction, I think. To destroy the social fabric of Scotland so viciously was an unconscionable act, and so very cynical on the part of the victorious side. Yet even that in the long run had a sort of left-handed benefit: I doubt anyone would accuse Scots of being subservient today, bless 'em! And speaking for the "colonies", I have to say that we were truly blessed to have such a rich infusion of Scottish blood and character into what would become our own national fabric. Culloden is such a moving and poignant place to this day. Earth and stone alike seem to house the great sadness of what happened there, and you can still feel it--even if you were not born in Scotland, save for perhaps your heart and soul...
