- Is the Apexel Macro Lens one of the best mobile macro lenses for photography? It performed surprisingly well for me. At $39.99 I was blown away by both the image and the build quality.
If you're in the market for a macro lens for beginners, then you have to consider the Apexel 100mm Macro Lens. Apexel isn't as well known as Moment, BeastGrip, or Sandmarc but when it comes to budget smartphone lenses, they definitely have the industry juggernauts beat.
If a cheap macro lens for iPhone or a cheap macro lens for Android is what you're in the market for then you're going to be impressed by the quality of this lens. The build quality is that of a significantly pricier mobile macro lens.

It only works if you have no case on... This clip thingy doesnt sit well on my Galaxy s22 ultra, and I cant get anything into focus
I didn’t love the clip either. My recommendation is the beast grip pro lens adapter as you’ll be able to mount the lens to any phone.

How close you need to be to subject with this APEXEL lens ? You never show or measure that, and it is said it is tele-macro, so have to be further away, which will be great if true. My other APEXEL force me to be 1/2 inch away, which is too close for any live subject (insect or else). Can this be like 5+ inches ? Please let us know this important info in comments

Thinking of buying for videography. Currently use sandmarc, but I have to hold my phone to close while I’m recording.
The Apexel working distance is MUCH better. I honestly prefer it to the sandmarc and moment macro. Checkout the recent video I did comparing iphone macro mode, Apexel macro, and the sandmarc macro!

What is the standoff distance from lens to subject
Wide - 2" to 3.25"
Tele - 4.5" to 5.75"
Do you think the clip might sit well on the iphone14 pro max or 15 pro max models? You know the cameras are bulky. Thanks for the video by the way.
Great question. The clip that I got does not, but I got this lens two years ago. I would expect that the company would update their product to be more usable with newer devices. Hope this helps!!
@@photoswithphones Thanks a lot! I got this same lens and it did not sit well on Iphone 15 pro max with the clip. It sits with an angle and ruins the shot. So I bought a phone case with 17mm lens mountings on aliexpress. Now it's working great. I hope it helps other people too, highly recommend a case.

is the 100mm macro good for 6" action figure photography?
Jeff - great question. The Apexel Macro should be the perfect option for 6" scrub figures. You may not get the whole action figure into a single shot but you'll get around 1/2 plus lots of details.
