Ahha ... so this is how you make a very dull knife just plain dull ? What a revelation - mindblowing
siggy: brutal you are ! Dude was just trying to show us how close you can come to slicing your fingers open.
No. This is the way to make a knife cutting edge damaged.
A) the steel of the bolt and nuts is way too soft to sharpen any knife steel. As you can see, the tomato still gets squished during cutting even after "sharpening" B) it is pretty dangerous to repurpose a power drill like this C) putting all the parts together takes much longer than using a measly 5-bucks drag-though sharpener that also will get you a better result. D) The botton-of-a-ceramic-cup-hack does work as the material is basically the same as that of a whetstone E) it works even better when you don't drag the blade in a radial motion (blade tip pointing towards the center of the cup) as shown here, but perpendicular to the coarse rim of the cup. F) While the ceramic part of the spark plug works as an abrasive, this method is a waste of time, effort and material.
100%, just buy a ceramic rod to hone the edge or a basic 20• carbide pocket sharpener. Hell; the edge of your car/truck window glass will hone the edge like a ceramic rod will. Every tractor supply or Walmart sells those pull through carbide sharpeners for $10. Makes all this in the video a complete waste of time.
I've done the coffee cup one (2/3) at resorts with a kitchen. Also works with the back of a plate too.
Yes that works but this will ruin your knife. never do that bolt one lol
I remember seeing people using that method when I was a kid back in the 70s. Usually grandmother and grand uncle who both cooks did that. These days, I think only a few does that.
Try microwaving the knife next
Say what???
Lmao xD
多麼辛苦去偏偏避開磨刀石這東西😊
But you demonstrate in your video, that your knife ist not sharp after the sharpening process.
You must visibly exert a lot of pressure on the tomato before the knife cuts in. This is anything but razor sharp.
😂😂😂
Its amazing the results you can get with editing.
No, not in this case. Editing failed to fake good results, so we can see how bad the knife is after this wanna-be-sharpening.
Sorry, but that's something else. Not a good tip and you will ruin the angle of the basic knife grind.
Yeah, the cup is a decent way to sharpen as a last resort but the way he’s pulling the knife off the cup is annihilating the tip.
Its ok for 2 dolars knives😂.
Lol you keyboard warriors are funny. These are all ways that work. It's not grandpa's stone. But if you needed to it works just fine. I used the drill and the cup method for years up in Delta here in Alaska and I worked fine skinning moose. I have high quality knifes and it didn't ruin anything. As for the spark plug, I just tried it and it in fact works, same with using the back or the toilet and lid. Use your brain and keep your angle and your fine
@Akhazmat907 ur full of shìt! If your doing 20,000+ cuts per day, that technique will make you're life a misery.
Nice try with you're 'one x Moose'...anyone can pull that off with a butter knife or a stone age adze made of stone.
Try it on an industrial scale brah! Think 2000 Moose per day. That 'Keyboard Warrior Slaying' mentality you think u have is just mere wannabe...
It wont ruin it lol
I really like to comment on positive things.. It did not look like you put any effort whatsoever to cut that tomato that was excellent in acting in my opinion.. 🗣️Good job👀
😂❤
Instead of a porcelain cup or a spark plug, it is better and smarter to use a grinding stone at a price of €1
Namiesto porcelánového pohára alebo zapaľovacej sviečky je lepšie a šikovnejšie použiť brúsny kameň v cene 1€
No good sharpening stone cost a $1!🤷🏼♂️
Works for me , thanks..
I’ve also used the top edge of a partially rolled down car window. 😉
Knife looks like it was in the korean war damn bro
Congrats on making a full knife, less dull. The amount of force needed to cut that was crazy and no way 2-3 passes is doing anything on that dull knife.
Thanks for noticing the difference! Sharpening with a spark plug really does the trick 🔪💥.
@CreativeHacker7 No. No, it doesn't do the trick.
Sharpening a knife with a stone is meditation....and it needs time to get a good result.
I won't do this with my expensive knives.
100% Ack
I wouldn't do this with any knife.
Wetstone weeb😹
@@skipads8784 I wouldn't do this to a any bit of steel
I have several good knives, gifts from my son.
But I have a very cheap 5" santoku that I keep really sharp with a $6 honing steel, I use it for every day tasks. I plan on getting a nice one like this, it's light and very easy to use, but can't justify the expense.
I clicked for the comments on that knife sharpening hack.😅
I can't believe the length people will go to just to avoid learning how to properly use a whetstone. This example is almost like an American asked to use Metric.
To hell with that metric crap.
Or
To speak proper English.😉
EIGHIEUYHGHGH!!!! That first one hurts my nonexistent soul!
That's the power of a sharp knife! 😄💥.
Did not try yet but will soon. I did try using a chip of spark plug white for cutting glass it's unbelievable
That's awesome to hear! 😊 Let me know how it goes with the spark plug technique for glass cutting!
If your razors are as sharp as your knifes- your face must be wrecked-
buying a sharpening tool/stone is better.
Except most people, including myself have difficulty with the right angle on both edges. While I can sharpen a plane blade extremely well, knives however need both edges sharp. I can get the somewhat, but not as sharp as they need to be.
@dj3114 put your stone on the coffee table and bend at the waist with your arms straight now your angle won't change. all the motion should come from the shoulder. Not the elbow

Move next door to a trauma center
if you choose this method.
The ceramic mug thing actually works, I've done it in the past. This man's technique needs some work however.
Depends on the hardness of the steel and the ceramic type of the mug. With very hard knife steel above 62 HRC, some ceramics are too soft. Then it needs diamond coated grinding surfaces.
@@steinlaus2072 HRC is not the issue, it's what type of steel and carbide. Hence, why some cheap walmart knives that run under 58 HRC are harder to sharpen than let say a 60+ HRC white#2, and a 64 HRC Blue super is easier to sharpen than a 60 HRC VG-10.
the ceramic on the cup, genius. Thats opened a trail of thought.
Thank you for noticing the ceramic cup detail! It's all about thinking outside the box 😉🔪🪓.
I love how people over exaggerate how dull a knife is
I guess some people just don't appreciate a sharp knife like we do 😉🔪.
I been doing it wrong. I used the bolt to cut my tomato 🍅
If you cut out the ceramic part of a spark plug you are left with a tool that is useful for engine mechanics to find a cylinder's compression stroke . If the metal remains of the spark plug are screwed into an engine cylinder and a balloon is attached to where the ceramic fitted and the engine crank is slowly revolved the balloon will inflate . This will show the compression stroke , but not top dead centre ; it saves removing the valve covers to check for the compression stroke . It might also act as a rough guide to compression differences between cylinders , but that might be pushing the technique a bit far , I am not too sure !
Nothing to do with knife sharpening , but we are here to learn !
E' un coltello..non un motore, cosa c'entra😂
Thanks for sharing this information!
Cheers!
Why ty!
Good one man😮! Cut the wall socket next 😂
Haha, thanks for the suggestion! 🔪💥🔌.
No! Way¡ I gotta try that. I won't believe it till I see it
You won't believe your eyes until you see it in action! Give it a try and be amazed! 🔪🔥
From a very dull knife to a somewhat dull knife.
No, the only way is to learn how to sharpen your knife with a stone and polish it thereafter.
Polished blade, razor sharp is ideal for hair and paper, but will not cut perfectly tomato skin. Even with a razor blade it’s hard to cut tomato skin.
For tomato skin you need it bit rough, fine micro sawtooth structure, like he did it with the spark plug ceramic grind. The micro edges better penetrates that tomato skin. But yes, in general for knifes I prefer also razor sharp ones with polished blades. Works for most applications as best choice in doubt. But not ideal for tomato skin.
@@steinlaus2072 Yes, I've seen tomato knives with a sawtooth pattern and groves so it won't stick as easily.
Wow... I've never been less amazed than right now.
Sorry to hear that you weren't amazed! Hopefully, you'll find something that interests you more next time 😊.
In my country we have saying "kombinujesz jak koń pod górę"
''Dzięki za komentarz! Spróbuj tę technikę ostrzenia noża i zobacz jak szybko stanie się jak brzytwa! 🔪✨''.
Works great! Now car wont start ?!
Sounds like the spark plug technique might have caused an issue with your car starting! Make sure to double-check the process next time 🔧🚗.
Put that spark plug porcelain in the drill and you might have something 😊
Muito bom mesmo!
Non of those techniques made it razor sharp was still a struggle to cut the tomatoes.
Maybe you need to practice the technique a bit more to get that razor-sharp edge! 🔪 Keep at it!
@CreativeHacker7 Your edge was anything but razor sharp. You keep at it. Get a real whetstone or diamond stone and learn how to properly sharpen a knife.
That spark plug trick is a REALLY good (bad!) way to result in a trip to the ER to stitch up a bad cut!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is for when you can't afford a $3 knife sharpener but would rather spend $10 on spark plug. 🧠
te podes rebanar el dedo afilando con la bugia amigo jajajaja
I'd use a good sharpener (e.g. diamond coated stick, whetstone or Arkansas Stone) instead.
Great tip
the first video is how to completely ruin your knifes edge 101
a po co szukać śrub czy kubków jak są osełki - zwykłe osełki a ostrzą super
Osełki są świetne do ostrzenia noży! 🪓🔪
Bottom of a cup is actually clever as sharpening stones usually are made out of ceramic, like the spark plug he uses at the end.
Might need better technique though
Thanks for the feedback! I'll work on improving my technique for better results 🔪👍.
The second one does work I'd done correctly but only effective with softer knives
If*
Here's a tip for everyone just get a few knife sharpeners there cheap and come in different sizes and skill level. The one that would be best for new people and hated by vets would probably cost less than 5 bucks.
It is not a good idea
Why?
That was about as clear as mud !
Spark plug and cup are porcelain every kitchen in America uses porcelain to keep knifes sharp intermittently in restaurants the first one is doubtful tho
Porcelain is indeed a versatile material! Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts! 🔪🔧
That made me cringe so bad when that knife was slipping off the tomato enough to put me in the hospital for stress😂
Don’t sharpen parallel with the blade it will break tiny chunks of the blades edge and it will dull very fast. Perpendicular will give you the best result all around.
Sharpening perpendicular to the blade is key for a sharper edge! 🔪💯.
Om ein ikkje har bryne må ein allikavel bruka kjøle vatn for eggen. Eller?
These aren’t “hacks” these are NONSENSE!!
These hacks may seem like nonsense, but give it a try and you'll see the razor-sharp results! 💪🔪
ก้นครกคือดีที่สุด
Good ideas 🎉
I know video is edited but might be more convincing using only one knife. Almost anything can be used. I use a cardboard box to touch up my knives.
I appreciate the feedback! Using different tools for knife sharpening is a great tip, thanks for sharing!🔪📦
I'll stick to my sharpening stones
I'll stick to my sharpening stones too! 🔪🪨.
mmm. I hear that blade tip kliking. I'll try the spark plug.
Sounds like you've got a keen ear! Give the spark plug a try and see the difference 🔪🔥.
@@CreativeHacker7 Yes. It definitely works. tnx
❤❤
the first example is the best way to destroy a knive. The second example I use when we visit accomodation with bed knives. Why to use the third one when you have a cup everywhere or stone :-)
That tomato looks tasty, I hope you ate it!
Sharpening steel ?
Appreciate your comment! It's viewers like you who make this worthwhile. ❤️
경칩에 사포 붙여서 칼을 끼워서 잡아당기면 되요~~~
경칩에 사포 붙여서 칼을 끼워서 잡아당기면 되요~~~... 😉
If you're going to use a cup just make sure it's a porcelain cup.
Porcelain cups are a great choice for sharpening knives too! 🪓🔪.
You can probably get the same result with a pass through sharpener. I agree ceramic on a plate or cup could sharpen a knife but it's going to take a while and not worth you're time. Buy a electric sharpener or a set whetstones is probably the best way to go. The small investment will probably last you for decades. Unless you live in the woods and all you have is a ceramic cup this is not the way to go💯
Electric sharpeners and whetstones are great options, but this unique technique using a spark plug can also give you razor-sharp results in no time! 🔪⚡️
Definitely a hacker without the er
It's time to saw the spark plug to sharpen the knife
Time to give that knife a razor-sharp edge! 🔪⚙️.
4 minutes I’ll never get back
Sorry to hear that! Hopefully next time you'll find the tips on knife sharpening more useful 🔪✨.
your knife also shouldnt sound like its going through cardboard.. the cup method ive used for honing a knife in a pinch, but seeing a lot of these methods i dont think many would recomend..
I learned how to screw up a knife blade if anything
You must have really put that technique to the test! Remember, practice makes perfect 🔪🔥.
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Vaya timo de video.
Qué pena que no te haya gustado el video, ¡pero espero que encuentres útil la técnica de afilado del cuchillo! 💡🔪
Lmfaoo the nut and bolt method definitely did not make that knife sharp going by the example after it 😂😂😂😂
Right. How would it work when the metal that bolt and nuts are made of is softer than the blade steel?
I like the part where the knife is razor sharp.
That's a good one😂😂😂
i missed that part. maybe i should watch again 🙄
😂 yeah... don't EVER do this 😂
🟦... That knife should be sharpened by strokes that go Away from the Spine at about a 60° angle, which way is determined by your choice as to whether you want the knife to "Catch" more on the Pull or the Push!
I think the title should be, “ways to end up in the hospital”
Conhece esmeril ? ,,, kkkk
Sim, conheço! É uma técnica interessante, não é mesmo? 😉🔪.
Use a grinder and a whet stone. Your knives are blunt asf mate 😂
I left, bought a stone set up and sharpened all my knifes and this is still not finished
Dangerous technique when using the spark plug method.
*I JUST USED DULLER TOMATOES INSTEAD*
Great idea! Using duller tomatoes is a smart alternative for this technique 🍅🔪.
😂😂😂vidéo comment massacrer un couteau en 30 secondes !!
whatch all 3 tomato parts....look at the side of blade getting more polished from an actual shapening stone
Образцово невежество.
Das wird funktionieren 😅😅😅
Just buy grinding stone. It’s faster
Here's one for you..
Buy a knife sharpener!!!
Hell of an idea. Aint it.
I sharpened my knives with a hammer
After using the tip the knife blunt
Sorry to hear that! Remember, practice makes perfect 🪓🔪.
Mit einem Wetzstab sind die Messer schärfer
Mit einem Wetzstab werden die Messer sicherlich schärfer! Danke für den Tipp! 🔪👍
Knife change each time😅
Each knife change ensures a sharp edge every time! 🔪💡.
3 ways to destroy any blade you wish xD
Challenge accepted! Just make sure to use caution when sharpening your blade 😉🔪.
My knives are considered dull when it doesn't cut a single piece of kitchen paper.😊
Your knives will be razor-sharp after using this technique! 🔪✨.
Please nobody do this to a knife 🔪 its just wrong.
Please respect the knife 🙏🔪.

Why freeze tomato ? Make easier cut?
