Alan Watts was an incredible philosopher and speaker who had a unique way of exploring Eastern philosophy and spirituality. His captivating lectures and books have inspired countless people around the world.
Alan Watts was born in England in 1915 and developed a deep interest in Eastern philosophy from a young age. He studied Buddhism, Taoism, and Hinduism, and became a renowned interpreter of these philosophies for Western audiences. His ability to bridge the gap between Eastern and Western thought made him a popular figure in the counterculture movement of the 1960s.
One of the central themes in Watts' teachings was the concept of "the self." He explored the idea that our sense of self is an illusion, and that we are all interconnected with the universe. He encouraged people to embrace the present moment and find joy in the simple act of being alive.
Watts had a way of delivering profound insights with a sense of humor and playfulness. He believed that life should be approached with a sense of wonder and curiosity, and that we should not take ourselves too seriously. His lectures often included anecdotes, stories, and metaphors that helped illustrate his points in an engaging and relatable way.
In addition to his lectures, Watts wrote numerous books on topics such as Zen Buddhism, Taoism, and the nature of consciousness. Some of his most well-known works include "The Wisdom of Insecurity," "The Book: On the Taboo Against Knowing Who You Are," and "The Way of Zen."
Alan Watts passed away in 1973, but his teachings continue to resonate with people today. His ability to distill complex philosophical concepts into accessible and relatable ideas has made him a beloved figure in the world of spirituality and philosophy.

I think the translation of zen into a modern definition would be apropos enough.. zone. As in when one is in 'the zone' at one with life and their current action as if there's no boundary betwixt.
    Maybe I shouldn't have spoken that. 🤔 😊

    good talk but bad subtitles

Thanks for these videos, however Watts didn’t live to see 60. The image you’re using is of a man arguably way past 70.

I don’t get any ads. Pay for premium. Either you pay for your use of the platform or advertisers pay for your use of the platform. Someone has to pay.

Interesting, however i’d like to know how often these methods actually work 😉 surely we really are in need of salvation look at the human condition, I used to agree with zen but now I’m not so sure. It’s all trickery, even the one “exposing” the trickery is doing it in order to trick you in a way, but it is actually not very helpful considering one day we will stand before a righteous judge… will we be condemned or will we be saved? God only knows.

I keep in mind that Jesus said “I am the good Shepard who is willing to lay down his life for his sheep” where as none of these zen masters would do the same, therefore there Love surely isn’t complete, is it. However Jesus is different because he really does offer salvation by setting the perfect example of how we ought to lay down our lives in order to enter the kingdom of heaven, “he who loves his life will lose it but he who lays down his life for my sake will enter into eternal life” (my paraphrase). Idk about all this other stuff I find it entertaining but all I know is that I will inherit my reward in heaven for being obedient here on earth. Peace ❤

@@Cade-JosiahVez Perhaps " lay down his life" is Jesus saying to surrender the need to control, which is very Zen

@@juang4618 that’s true, but if a zen master isn’t pointing you towards the saviour then he’s being deceitful, probably without realizing it
