Creating Dynamic Blocks in AutoCAD-Only You Can Prevent Bloated Block Libraries

  • Why should you be using Dynamic Blocks? Quite simply, Dynamic Blocks can greatly reduce the number of blocks in your library, improving your efficiency. While it does take a little more time up front to create a dynamic block, the timesavings on the back end are well worth the effort! Even better news: if you are a proficient user of AutoCAD software, you should have no problem converting those boring, static blocks into shiny, new, Dynamic Blocks. This session features AutoCAD. time table for the webinar
    @5:54 block creation and edit
    @7:27 creat multiple insertion point using point parameter and press ctrl to cycle between the points while you are inserting the block
    @12:39 using alignment parameter to grip on an edge
    @14:47 using the linear parameter and flip action to put mirror grip on blocks and test your block before using it (woahhhh magic)
    @17:48 grouping parameters and actions /using rotation set/
    @20:01 controling block visibility by visibility parameter (cycling blocks with no block insert command) what kinda of sorcery is this \(*0*) /
    @28:16 using linear parameter and stretch action to stretch blocks
    @31:57 using linear properties to set the values of the stretch action
    @34:02 using angle parameter properties to set values of the rotation
    @35:08 using a linear parameter and array action to array a block ( my eyes filled with tears of joy right now) /awsom tip/
    @37:16 limiting the increments of the arrayed block with linear properties
    @39:17 using lookup parameter and lookup action to create an allowable list of values of block sizes with a drop-down list
    @45:46 auto constrain of block geometry ( point stay together- lines stay perpendicular) and using parameter manager to set changes in width and length of a block
    @52:50 extract data from dynamic blocks using data extraction tool and update the data when you insert new dynamic block ( the holy grail of autocad)
    hope this helps you on your autocad learning journey and any mistakes in this time table please put it in the comments..... good luck

    Wait @ 43:28 the question is asked about using dynamic blocks for extrusion length for 3d blocks. I am using 2017 since I am too lazy to migrate my settings up to 2020 and am doing exactly that. I am using this tool for dynamic seismic bracing which is 3d to stretch the length and it is working great!

    Thank you so much for posting this presentation! This is a highly useful tutorial with information that I could not find anywhere else - I appreciate it. Now I can impress my co-workers. One thing that I had to note is that I did not know the proper way to import/export a block library. According to my co-worker, the best was to do this is through the design center (type "DC" in the command line) if that is helpful to anyone else!

    Hello sir. May I ask you this? Can we keep changing the insertion points of an already inserted block?
    At times, you may want to insert/move/relocate the same block on the basis of a mid point & other times you may want it to be placed with respect to bottom left corner (or any other point)... Please revert. Thank you.

    • @mrgrotey
      @mrgrotey Před 2 lety

      Yes but you need to assign a move action to the point to do that. That way the grip will appear on the block. Then you select the objects you want it to move.
      Just remember that after you add the first move point and select everything, and then add a second move point you need to go back to the first point one and add the second point to it (as something you want it to move) as the 2nd point wont have been there when the first point was created. The other way around this is to create all the points and move actions first without assigning any objects to them, then go around each parameter assigning all objects to them all.

    AutoCAD add all the functions that no one need sometimes like help poping up dialog every 10 second, but something like hitting the X on the corner by mistake and closing the entire document they can never find fix for?
    What are autocad engineer doing ? whats wrong with the world? we need bloody updates!
    Look at softwares like blender, smooth weekly updates, completely free !

    What a Disaster...
    ACAD used to be about keeping things Simple and Universal.
    This is horrible to try to reverse engineer other people's work.
    What a failure on Autodesk's part.
    I can't believe how bad such an easy to use program that everyone could use has become.
    I used to be able to hire kids out of high school and Community College and have them producing good work in a few days.
    This is just awful.
