Hi All, I'm happy to see someone doing reactions of our singers. I agree, a song to be sung by a group must be arranged especially if the song is too powerful. Time has changed the music scene in our country. This was American Idol era. Even then, performances from other artists are not up to today's standards. You cannot really expect too much from our singers if you're looking for pitch perfect thing in terms of harmonization because they are singing LIVE and UNDUBBED. They were never trained for choir singing nor for a quartet, expect for La Divas singing in trio. All of thrm are just starting their singing careers except for Jaya(I grew up with her music). I myself is also critical for missed notes but I understand the reasons. Concerts released from the USA and other parts of the world are dubbed, mixed or even lipped. They usually re-take and also use some ghost singers. I have watched Ed Sheeran, Charlie Puth, Bruno Mars, Josh Groban, Michael Buble, American Idols, Mariah Carey( she is great and perfectionist during the 90's), Ariana Grande etc from amateur cams where you can hear pitchy parts unlike what you can hesr from official videos released in vevo. Here, we are different, it is always one take and raw unmixed. They perform new songs each week for a variety show, coz God knows how busy they are in their individual careers and nightly engagements, just to earn for a living and keep their careers up and going. They practice individually then come together at the same day to practice in a very short period of time usually for 1-2 takes on the stage and I don't know how long at the backstage. Singing in harmonies is a skill and requires years of experience but you actually need a pitch perfect ear to do it or else get a vocal coach to arrangr the song for you. However on the other parts of the world, singers perform songs that has been practiced together for several months or even years. It is understandable that this will not be perfect but you can't deny their pure talent doing improvisations. Singing in a bathroom or room is different from singing in front of a large crowd with big orchestra or bands. 5 Years ago, we lack talented sound engineers and vocal arrangers that are influenced by modern Western music. We are still stuck in the 80's music which is a mixture of old english songs, Spanish folk songs, and our very own folk songs. We just recently started to catch up because of this new technology and youtube. This competing style of Philippine singers actually got inspired from the Divas Live concert where Celine competed vocally with Aretha Franklin. Sorry for this long response. I tried to make it brief but I have to give everyone an overview of Filipino music and its diversity. Thank you for making a reaction.

I can totally relate with your reaction on their harmony issues in some parts of their performance, and though I am not a musician at all, I just relied on my small knowledge of harmony from music appreciation classes and my ears as an audience . I also love how you two tried to figure out who's Jaya and Rachelle. Btw, Jaya is Regine's bestfriend. Regine is known for belting, ballads, and high notes while Jaya is known for the low notes, jazz, and soul music. :)

All the complements and comments are correct, I agree with them that the belting part they did simultaneously was all over the place seems like they're fighting and sounds like a screeching cat. Yes you're right that aicelle Santos was the one who dominated the song and second best is jaya cause both of them has a big voice like Jennifer Hudson, Whitney Houston. I'm happy to see someone doing reactions of our singers. I agree, a song to be sung by a group must be arranged especially if the song is too powerful. Time has changed the music scene in our country. This was American Idol era. Even then, performances from other artists are not up to today's standards. You cannot really expect too much from our singers if you're looking for pitch perfect thing in terms of harmonization because they are singing LIVE and UNDUBBED. They were never trained for choir singing nor for a quartet, expect for La Divas singing in trio. All of thrm are just starting their singing careers except for Jaya(I grew up with her music). I myself is also critical for missed notes but I understand the reasons. Concerts released from the USA and other parts of the world are dubbed, mixed or even lipped. They usually re-take and also use some ghost singers. I have watched Ed Sheeran, Charlie Puth, Bruno Mars, Josh Groban, Michael Buble, American Idols, Mariah Carey( she is great and perfectionist during the 90's), Ariana Grande etc from amateur cams where you can hear pitchy parts unlike what you can hesr from official videos released in vevo.
Here, we are different, it is always one take and raw unmixed. They perform new songs each week for a variety show, coz God knows how busy they are in their individual careers and nightly engagements, just to earn for a living and keep their careers up and going. They practice individually then come together at the same day to practice in a very short period of time usually for 1-2 takes on the stage and I don't know how long at the backstage. Singing in harmonies is a skill and requires years of experience but you actually need a pitch perfect ear to do it or else get a vocal coach to arrangr the song for you. However on the other parts of the world, singers perform songs that has been practiced together for several months or even years. It is understandable that this will not be perfect but you can't deny their pure talent doing improvisations. Singing in a bathroom or room is different from singing in front of a large crowd with big orchestra or bands. 5 Years ago, we lack talented sound engineers and vocal arrangers that are influenced by modern Western music. We are still stuck in the 80's music which is a mixture of old english songs, Spanish folk songs, and our very own folk songs. We just recently started to catch up because of this new technology and youtube.
This competing style of Philippine singers actually got inspired from the Divas Live concert where Celine competed vocally with Aretha Franklin.
Sorry for this long response. I tried to make it brief but I have to give everyone an overview of Filipino music and its diversity.

I can totally relate with your reaction on their harmony issues in some parts of their performance, and though I am not a musician at all, I just relied on my small knowledge of harmony from music appreciation classes and my ears as an audience . I also love how you two tried to figure out who's Jaya and Rachelle. Btw, Jaya is Regine's bestfriend. Regine is known for belting, ballads, and high notes while Jaya is known for the low notes, jazz, and soul music. :)
