  • Wilson is the highest scoring softball team in Berks County. The top-seeded Bulldogs entered Thursday's BCIAA Championship averaging 11 runs per game. Hamburg senior Hailey Strunk held that powerful lineup to three hits in a 8-0 victory at Lyons. The Hawks claimed their first county title since 2010. "As a freshman, I had a list of things that I wanted to do. To be able to check this one off, it's remarkable," Strunk told SV Sports' Paul Roberts. Hamburg's ace got plenty of help from her defense in both the infield and outfield. "Hard work pays off. We're constantly ready for the next play. We pick each other up nonstop," emphasized Strunk. Junior Jenna Shuman made several nifty plays at third base. The (20-3) Hawks took advantage of five errors in the first inning and scored four runs on three hits. Norah Davey hit a RBI double to right-center and Shayna Morales followed with a two-run single to center. A two-run double to left by Hailie Edwards made it 6-0 in the third frame. Davey drove in another run with a single up the middle in the 4th inning. The freshman shortstop went 3-for-3 with a walk. "She amazes me. She's definitely a key part in our program," said Strunk. Davey increased her batting average to .453. Edwards, Morales, and Strunk had two hits apiece. Edwards, a senior second baseman, knocked in three runs. Hamburg finished with eleven hits off of sisters Meghan and Madi Farrell. The (19-4) Bulldogs had won 14 of their previous 15 contests. Strunk (18-3, 1.20) struck out four and walked two on a rainy night. The Jacksonville University commit has 120 strikeouts and only 14 walks over 122 innings this year. She's also hitting .448 with a team-high 40 RBI. "I couldn't have done it without my team and my coaches," noted Strunk.
