As a former WDW Cast Member, there is an interesting park hack that very few know of when it starts to pour down. Find a custodial cast member and ask for one of the massive garbage bags. They will often gladly give you one, and they are as large as a Poncho.
Also, the umbrella is good to carry even on hot sunny days. It can protect you from the sun as well as the rain.
Love this tip! I always bring an umbrella for direct FL Sun in the summer. The temp difference under an umbrella is so noticeable!
I love that tip 🤔 interesting idea 👍🏻
Yeah it's June 1st. The start of Hurricane Season.
Yassss
Preschool kids here in Japan clip their raincoat hoods to the visor of their hats to prevent their hoods from blowing off their heads leaving them wet when walking to school on rainy days. You can use a regular laundry clip or even a heavy-duty paper clip and clip it right in the front where your hood overlaps your hat visor. We've already packed some along with our raincoats for our upcoming WDW trip.
That’s so awesome my youtuber is from Japan hope u have fun and enjoy your trip the magic is calling 🪄
I was at SSR for Hurricane Ian last year. I had ordered food in advance and went to Disney Springs the night before shut down to get more provisions. I have to say that I always felt safe. I hunkered down in my room with Netflix for two days and it was just fine. The cast members were all fabulous and did the best that they could. My heart went out to the gulf coast as I watched the destruction on tv.
I was at Disney World a few years ago. We got one of those 20-minute afternoon storms. My brother in law from Illinois kind of freaked out. I said just wait 20 minutes. And we'll be fine. The park cleared out, and we continued our day of fun! He was amazed. I guess they don't have 20 minute rainstorms in Illinois!
I would guess Illinois is similar to Ohio in that, while weather is often changeable, when it rains it tends to rain and mist all day and is miserable 😂
Oklahoma has also never heard of 20-minute rainstorms. If it rains, it keeps on raining for 20 hours minimum. Our weather can change instantly and dramatically, but after that change, you're stuck with that weather for a very long time.
No we don't get 20 minute storms 😂
Former cast member from Illinois here. Yeah, we usually get an entire day or half-day of rain when it rains here. When I first started working at the parks, the 20-minute rainstorm was insane to me. I eventually got used to it and made sure to always bring an umbrella when I was visiting the parks on my days off. Rain OR shine, lol.
i haven't been to disney world in years yet i still watch most of your content since i just enjoy the overall topic of disney. hope i see you reach the 1 million mark soon, been watching since like 400k i believe.
Glad u enjoy Aj’s content and spread positivity hope u have a magical day 🪄
These vids always make me happy cry. Thank you for offering practical solutions and shouting out the hard work cast members put in to keep folks safe!
Well timed, DFB! Even as a local this is so helpful!
Thanks for the tips Aj!
Ziplock bags she isn’t kidding folks I have used these and come in handy. Years ago down pour hit and there was a strange three sided structure didn’t know what Disney used it for but it was dry and had a place to sit, so my stepmother waited for it to finish and snagged a restaurant table no worse for wear and had an early dinner 🥘 😊
Thank you for this, it was very informative!
Posted on the 1st day of hurricane season. DFB always on point!
I recommend having a weather radio in one of your backpack’s pockets. It’s the best way to receive weather directly from the National Weather Service!!
Great info as usual!
We were at Riverside during Ian last year. I thought everything was handled as best as possible.
TL:DR: We we’re staying at a resort, and the Disney Magic made us forget anything was going on.
Wewere staying at AKL in September 2022 when the storms came through in the middle of the week. The parks closed for a couple days, but our girls had no idea anything was going on- they’d probably tell you those were the best days of the whole trip. One day was already planned as a resort day, and we were able to move the other park day to the second planned resort day. This included moving a Bippity Boppity reservation when it had just reopened. All of the resort staff were phenomenal. Concierges were experts on reservation shuffling. The lifeguards became camp counselors/party hosts. They hosted a pajama party dance night in the lobby with surprise cameos from Mickey and Minnie that we will never forget. Sanaa buffet was half-priced, and we got a walk-in table at Jiko the second night. Never would have planned the trip this way, but I wouldn’t change anything looking back.
Stormy days are the best and if you are stuck on property know you’re hunkering down in the safest place possible!
I used TSA precheck for the first time last month. I was so worth it! Also kids are free as long as they are on your reservation
So glad u glad u fun and enjoyed 😊
We were there in November when the parks shut down. The instacart etc getting slammed is no joke. We had an order placed days before to be delivered the day before and it was cancelled.
The ride out crew is phenomenal and all the other cast members who were working were great. It was busy at the hotel, it was insane at bag services and the lobby but youd never know
I'm glad i found this video. Im trying to do my research before planning a Disney trip in 2025. Of course, I also am planning the trip for September, so learning that was in the middle of hurricane season was putting me on edge. Luckily it seems as if more often then not, it doesn't fully hit the parks, and at least now I know what I'll need to do if it does.
We were there last November with huricane Nicole. The parks closed earlier, and were closed the next morning.
Yeah Nicole was hard Nov sorry u did not get to enjoy the parks hopefully on ur next trip u can enjoy the magic 🪄
Time marker 31:03 - I learned that lesson the hard way when I was at Disney last September (2022) when I ended up with wet socks and wet sneakers! So I am ordering a pair of Teva sandals when I plan my next Disney vacation.
We got "lucky" and was in WDW smack dab right when Ian hit in 2022 .. I do have to say the cast members at CBR did an AMAZING job despite the fact everyone's vacation was cratering into a disaster.. AJ was not joking bout the Orlando airport being a nightmare.. it was .. and thats really being generous..
3:30 I was there for hurricane Ian when the winds were 38 mph in Kissimmee it was the first time I seen a hurricane and than Nicole which wasn’t all that
I'm from the PNW where it rain's pretty much 8 or 9 months out of the year so I think I'll just bring my light rain coat when I visit in October.
I was there sept 2022 and had to stay extra nights due to hurricane. However I did every ride in animal kingdom and Epcot and 3 rides in Hollywood studio in one day with out getting 1 drop of water on me. The park closed for 2 days
We were there for Ian and the Hilton buena vista palace was the best everything is inside they opened the all the restaurant and the staff was amazing they got board games in the lobby they made a "movie theater" and we had a great time for the 2 days even though it was a crazy time
Ian was big but glad u had a great experience still got to enjoy things at the Hilton hotel I love Hilton I’m a Hilton honors member
Another downside to ponchos is that cast members will make you remove them before getting on most indoor rides.
Oof
Oooh, didn’t know that!
Not gonna lie, but riding out a hurricane at Disney sounds like a bucket list item. Sure there’s risk, but this could actually be a lot of fun.
💀 hurricanes are not a joke
when i went to Disney land in Florida with my mom in 2013, we was lucky it was a small rainstorm but since we went in the summer, it was refreshing
Disney world lol Disney land is in California 💀
not only rain, but on your weather app, watch for lightening…set up to get lightening alerts, maybe from 20 miles out…outdoor rides will shut down when lightning is a certain distance from the park (Cast Members have told me 11 miles and 15 miles which is why I set up alerts for 20 miles away). Also, if adults only on your trip or if your kiddos will be accepting of it, if the rain is headed in and looks on the radar and weather apps to be only temporary…an incoming storm may be a good time to head back to the resort for some rest, especially if you are planning on staying to closing time…one trip where a hurricane was hitting the Florida panhandle and WDW was getting the rain bands, my afternoon naps were great at keeping me in out of some fairly heavy rains. There is still magic when the weather fights againast it!!
Have I cancelled my Disney trip because of the current situations YES! Do I still watch DFB guide YES!
Yay so glad u still enjoy and support happy pride month 🌈 🪄
@@Isaiahslifeexperience happy pride 🏳️🌈🌈🦄
Ahhhh the poncho life! That was funny!
We left the day hurricane Ian was coming into town. We were able to have all of our fun and we’re leaving that morning anyway. We got back to our area without any problems because we drove from Florida to Pennsylvania. They were closing airports and I felt bad for those that were stranded.
I was there when Ian hit since I live here but I was born in nyc so glad u had fun and made back home to pa 😊
Walk - do not RUN when it's wet. I remember being at DHS before they built Batuu and meandering through the Backlot area leading my crew all in ponchos as we were trying to get to our next ride. Surfaces change all over Disney and as I rounded the corner at a pretty good clip, asphalt became a marble inlay in front of a door which was saturated with rain and the next thing I knew I had 4 CastMembers staring down at me as I lay flat on my back asking me if I was okay.
1. Daughter's wedding in Disney on a Tuesday (scheduled to fly out on Saturday..) 2017
2. Orlando Airport announces closure on Wednesday starting on Thursday.
3. Rented FORD Expedition XL and 6 of us (including Bride and Groom) drove home to MA before IRMA hit. It was quite a tense situation for sure.
There is no safer place to be than Disney during a hurricane. I've been there twice during hurricanes. It was some of my best, most memorable trips.
@@stevenweatherman7325 I agree! My husband and I would have stayed but the rest of our travel party had to get back due to jobs and not taking extra time.
Are you going to cover the new Brightline? Looks like it's going from Miami and will eventually go to Tampa. Sounds great. So people coming into either airport can get the train to Orlando.
I was waiting for this it’s officially hurricane season 🌀 idk why is it me or do I love this season lol
I'm thinking about buying a golf rainsuit for rainy days at theme parks. A suit like ZGalvin Green is Gore Tex and 100% weatehrproof, even in a huricane.
Thank you, AJ. I find it interesting that now the “low crowd” period in Disney World is August through mid-September, excluding Labor Day. Of course this is also the time with the greatest risk of hurricanes! I went solo around September 8-13, 2004, which I booked in great ignorance - and was very lucky. There were four hurricanes impacting Disney World that August-September and my trip dodged them all. Crowd levels were what people would now consider low.
So glad u enjoyed and went close to the end of hurricane season hope u have a magical day 🪄
I go next month with my husband so I’ve been binge watching videos to be prepared 😅
I subscribed to your channel
Ponchos are also good scooter power column covers. Except when someone steals it while you’re on an attraction. 😒
I’m going to first week of October this year, hoping we don’t get hit with anything crazy
That’s great time oct is near the end which is less risky hope u have fun and enjoy ur trip the magic is calling 🪄
Was at Disney in 2016 during hurricane Matthew. Parks closed early. Food court at Art of Animation ran out of food. Only had a sandwich with chips and an apple. Good thing I bring food. Next day all parks were closed. We watched TV all day. At 5 pm were could go over to Downtown Disney. That was the only place that was somewhat open. Missed the Halloween party. Disney reimbursed me for all that we were unable to do. Party and tickets.
I was in WDW in November 2022, and Hurricane Nicole shut down the parks.
I ❤Hurricane season.
Which Orlando Airport app is best to download?
Trip insurance would be very worth it though, and yes, please keep a copy of everything.
Yes great tip for those hope u have a magical day 🪄
@@Isaiahslifeexperience Thank you and you as well! ✨
@@LilJigglypuff999 🥰
Ponchos- wear shoes you don’t care about - HAVE FUN NO MATEER WHAT
Lol I would be in sandals
And extra socks!
@IsaiahsLifeExperience trust me you don't want your feet touching anything on that ground lol
@@maryyjanee247 I’m like one of those fun crazy type floridans lol that it can thunderstorm and I’ll still go out in sandals mainly cause it’s comfy unless it floods
So if a hurricane does hit this October and shut down the parks how can you get into a park that you couldn't experience since you have to have a ticket to get into that particular park on the day disney shut it down
I've had my flights cancelled due to severe weather. I call the phone number to reschedule for a later flight, but once I got to the airport I discovered the phone representative scheduled it for the next day. Even after the rep said, go now or you'll miss the flight. This happened twice, so.... always have the representative read the date - that's always catches it and I'm not scrambling to find a room.
Oh no yeah that usually happens with the weather of a hurricane but sorry u had to go through that hopefully ur Abel to travel soon the magic is calling 🪄
We're here now😊
Welcome 🤗
Does anyone know what happens if you’ve booked a campsite at Fort Wilderness and are actually tent camping when a hurricane comes?
They will move you to a room at one of their hotelsif there's availability
@DFB no one ever mentions the campsites during hurricanes. What happens to the campers asking for my August camping trip
They typically close the campgrounds, often that is the first to close when a hurricane is coming since they want to help find those guests alternative accommodations
What about those in the campground? I'm thinking the campers must have to leave, but what if you're staying in one of the cabins? Are you allowed to stay or will you be able to move to a different resort on property?
If it is bad enough they will evacuate it all. During Hurricane Ian we were supposed to fly in and stay one night at All Star Sports before our Wish Cruise. We called and canceled our room ahead of time because we figured Disney would cancel the cruise anyway. When they didn’t at first, I called back to try to get our room back and they told us our room was given to someone already because they evacuated the cabins/campground.
My oldest Matthew was born in 2016 and had a hurricane named after him 😛
Hi AJ, You didn't mention afterhours events in the rain; when you buy tickets for after hours events and the weather just turns out bad. Try and get a refund or voucher for the event. We missed out on free vouchers when we had a rainy Very Merry Christmas party a few years back and there were people who commented on how the cast members gave out vouchers because of the bad weather. We toughed it out but missed out on free tickets.
Missed the Halloween party in 2016 because of hurricane Matthew. Disney reimbursed me for the cost.
We were able to use our 2016 MNSSHP tix because we were scheduled for after the park opened back up after Matthew. Limited entertainment and all of course because it was still rainy; but we went and I never even asked about a refund
Does It's A Small World still go on during hurricanes? I heard that it never stops
It’s indoor so yeah
Does Small World Vacations pay you to advertise their services?
A tip do not and I mean do not waste you’re money on Disney world before a hurricane hits so u can go on another trip save unless you’re in the parks already
For hurricane Ian I stayed at animal kingdom lodge we were safe that's the best i can say. There was no communication. We found that the restaurant had offered 50% off on meals this was not communicated to us. We were to fly out that Friday. I contacted Southwest they changed our flight out without fees or any problems. Went to front desk to extend stay by one day no help was told they could not extend any rooms until that Thursday. On Thursday we did get an extension. No discounts no help. Needed to make park reservations for that Friday. Was told could at 8pm that night. Used the app tried until the app froze could not get reservations. Called the number given that should provide help on hold over 3 hours and no help told to go to park and talk to quest relations. This meant I could not schedule my genie at 7 am. After waiting in a long long line got into the park. There was no magic in this trip. I'd give Disney a failure in the area of communication and customer service. we should not have needed park reservations and we should have had things communicated to us.
Sorry u had to go through this that sounds awful that’s not the experience disney should give their guest o hood on ur next trip it’s better
In the words of James Spann, respect the polygon.
Roll up the sleeves!
DO NOT Forget the said portable charger in the room! mom did once and we never heard the last of it. The next day she just stuck it in her bag. Bring A BOOK! also pack rain jackets! Ik not all the rain jackets will cover the backpacks, but our Animal Kingdom day got cut short, and when we came back to our hotel, guess what the rain storm stopped or it wasn't raining there >.>; (rude Fl rude) so be prepared (pun intended) Because that can happen too.
Stay home during this season?! Or is that too easy....
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Happy pride month to everyone in the community 🏳️🌈
🎉
We’re going in September when it’s still peak hurricane season😭 hopefully it’s not bad
Me too hope it dont rain 😢😢😢
@@emmanuelcepeda7326 oh it’s gonna rain, there’s no avoiding that. Whether it rains 20 minutes a day or is a full blown hurricane, you can never predict.
Last year I went from September 16-25th, had only 2 bad rain days and managed to miss the hurricane by a day (26th) I consider that VERY lucky.
This year I’m going September 2-13th hopefully it’s all good I pray that I have the same luck 🙏
Yeah lol September is like the worst month to go as for someone who lived here since 2021 it’s gonna happen but hope u enjoy ur trip maybe it won’t happen the time u go
@@himynameiscorey We’re going Sept. 10 - 16th. I fully expect rain so I’m not stressed over that, I’m more stressed over hurricanes
Not only did we buy regular ponchos, we got shoe "ponchos" aka covers because I hate wet socks more than anything
Close one day or one month, Disneyland makes it all back in one day anyways
Disneyland dose not get hurricanes
If i will be staying inside a hotelroom because of a hurricane, i won't go for snacks. Normal food would be my first priority. So not the chips
We lost our last 2 days to Ian.
I was gonna go to Disney world mk today I have reservations as a pass holder but idk since I wanted to celebrate pride 🌈
