Wow, I learned more in this 15 minute video than in two weeks of a welding course. Thank you!!
CZcams University
13:10 I had many problems with rods like this at one job. The 7018s supplied to me were obviously old, abused and stored incorrectly. The boss blamed my skills for the problems I was having. Bought my own brand new 7018s, and had ZERO issues for the rest of the contract. Added the rods I purchased to my expenses.
Rich Osthoff,I'm curious what was the bad brand and size welding rods you were using and what did you buy that was better to replace them🤔👨🏭
thank you so much for all the information you gave in this video.
Awesome information with great tips. Thank you Jack !!!

Fascinating..This instructor was one of the best I've seen..great video,I learned a lot..I need to watch more of these 👍!
Clear and simple to understand instructions. I'm having trouble of finding my hand and elbow placement. Not to mention the striking to start the arc. I stick 9 out of 10 times .🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Muy buen tutorial, gracias

Hey Jack mate.. Watching in IRELAND my bro.. This was a brilliant video mate.. I learned morte in these few minutes than I could've in hours in any classroom. I bought my 1st stick welder today. It's only a small cheap one of those inverter machines 10-80A but it'll do me for what I need to use it fro while I learn how to weld stick anyways my bro..
I will be investing in a good MIG/TIG/ARC welder in the future but for now I want to learn to stick weld. This was a great video full of hints and tips bro. Keep up the great content. Take it easy pal and salute from Dublin, IRELAND.
Thank you kindly. I am going to have a go now and now at least I know what it should look like .

I am a prospective welding student, and this video provided me the opportunity to see how amazing stck welding truly is.
Thank you again.
Wooow,i didnt know that cos of hitting hard on a slack is caused by long arcging.thanx alot.ive learned something today.
Welding is definitely a great skill to have. I wanna learn. I live in So Cal tho. 😊
great video
U are a great teacher thanks for sharing with us this video appreciations 🇩🇰👍
✌️Preciate chu!! Iagree,as a beginner,putting in the work(practice practice practice)is essential!! 🤜🏼🤛🏿. 🙏🏿☝️✌️
Just finished up my first welding project and this video was super helpful in identifying what I need to improve first. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you, good help, work go
Good video maaaaaaaaann!!!!
I’ve been having ugly beads and sticky slag and I now know long arcing is my problem. Thank you
The video is very interesting and you can clearly see what he's talking about in the beads. When he talked about the amperage setting on the machine he didn't mention the correlation to the rod dimension. I think that's a 2.4mm (3/32"?) 7018 but for someone who doesn't know it is a missing information
thank you!!
Thanks alot!!!
Thank you.
Thanks!
Man I wish my welds looked as good as your "wrong" welds !!!! Thanks.
I wish yalls school was closer to me here in Texas Houston Texas is bit of a ways from me
Thanks for showing ‘your fault’ on the rod tip. I did not realize tip condition is important...I keep on using them and keep failing thinking it does not matter.
Only way to learn welding is to go hands on and it takes hours to get ok at it.
Welding is a perishable skill, meaning if you do not excersize it daily you will loose it.
I had a 2 yr apprentice who went and purchased his own Mig/TIG and practiced everyday on his own time and dime. That kid could run a bead better than 95% of any instructor on U-tube and went on to work for the oil industry working off shore underwater and is making bank last I heard.
He had trouble striking an arc with 6011 on flat and really struggled with it until the Ah! Ha! moment.
Thsnk you boss😊
Its refreshing to listen to a gracious welder who's not trying to underhandedly and condescendingly insist on his own technique and trend. He won't make a very good welding boss😁
Thank you. Great teaching. Do you have online teaching courses?
You're a great teacher. What size stick machine do you suggest for a noob wanting to do general purpose welding.. a 160A dual voltage, 110 or just 220.. Then there's a more expensive mig/stick combo one could grow into..
Hi JD, just viewed the you tube vid' on " learn stick welding basics"..thumbs up...can u weld over the bad welds or do u have to grind them out & start over.
WP.
Hello👋🙋♂️ there Jack..
Amazing and very interesting video🎥... Super like👌👌👌
Good information and very helpful
Do keep posting
Warm regards and best👍💯 wishes
The UnknownManCub 👍😎👨🏭
Very informative . Thanks
1st time welding (used 6011 on flat) & my hand was so shaky its like there's a magnitude 10 earthquake in our weld lab, thank god just the following day i got it,
110 for 3/32nds is so high. I normally start around 90 and work either high or low depending how the arc lays down.
i'd be proud to produce your bad welds, let alone your good ones
dude looks like he is a blacksmith in a post apocalyptic video game
when using 6011 rod do you put the stinger in the negative terminal on the welder?
I’m a senior in highschool wanted to pursue welding, I’m in a welding class as of now. I’m working on the D9.1 single pass 6” 7018 T-joint weld. And I get flux peel and perfect starts on practice but I do my certification pass and i mess it up at the end. Could you help me out trying to find a way to get this done?
So if you welding 3mm steel you drop your Amp?
I just switched from 6013s to 7018s and finding it really difficult to strike and maintain an arc. Super sticky even if I increase the amps. Any advice?
Will it hurt the electronics on my truck to weld on the frame bumper bracket even if the battery is disconnected??
You use basics electrodes only?
👍
How is welding galvanized steel differ from bare steel?
I can now call myself a certified welder
Hi, can you talk Body position on stick welding especially on 6G, 4G (Overhead) 5G pipes, Thanks a lot.
Great useful video ...but you didn't address why you set the welder at 110 amps?...or what size rods is best for what material etc and the appropriate amp setting under these circumstances....otherwise a very helpful video
1/8th 6013 -
80-120amps, can weld up to 4.8mm easily single pass.
110 is lower end of 7018 rod.
So what causes the metal to basically burn up and blow holes through it?
Great ideas .for bigginers,i like welding but unemployed anyone willing to donate a arc machine to me am fromTrinidad and Tobago
