  • WHY are these MG SUVs so damn SURPRISING!
Today we take a look at MG's latest PHEV (Plug-In Hybrid Vehicle), the MG HS Plus EV. We had low expectations coming into this review, based purely on what we'd heard from other Journo's. It's seem's to be a trend so slam Chinese SUVs!! But frankly, we were blown away by its interior and powertrain. It's not all good though, so in today's review we'll take you through why we did not see this coming!

Here at CarSauce, we review every new car on the market. We are a community of sauce givers and we'd love for you to subscribe and join our community!
We give every car "the sauce", test their 0-100km/h, and see whether or not they are worth purchasing and spending your hard-earned cash on.
From time to time, we'll also buy a weird and wacky car and take you on the journey with me!
We release videos every Sunday 5pm AEST / AEDT with the latest new car reviews! Your feedback is important, so if you want to see us do something new or something you would like me to change let me know!

18 months into ownership for this car with 32k on the odometer and it's the best family car we've owned. My wife loves it and it puts our previous Euro SUV to shame.
The boys are on point with their comments. This car has really good power, an excellent combination of DCT and electric power makes the drive smooth. The comfort is right up their with anything else in the market.
Do yourself a favour and take a test drive (and while doing so change the fuel consumption to L/km while your at it 😅)

Test drove one of these recently as a cheapie runabout and was pleasantly surprised. Drive train is quite refined. Overall hard to beat for the cheapest PHEV on the market. As long as it charges overnight I'm happy.

Recently got a black version of this plugin hybrid. It looks and drive stunning better than more expensive cars. Forget the Chinese bashing snobbery comments (they forgot their iPhone they love so much is also made in China) and get one if you like it!

Love CarSauce's car videos. The MG HS EV looks very promising. My only issue is what about the dealer network? Thank guys.

My wife got the ZST and we're loving it, to the point that I’m looking to update my 07 Mazda tribute to one of these. The first thing I will notice is the fuel saving [I'm getting an avg 17lt per 100km]
Approx how much would it cost to charge the battery?

People will always hate what they don't even try they just look at price points and were the country of region and that makes up their mind immediately if you like this one and think it's quick take the 2.0tr AWD models for a run you will love the different drive modes

I think people just see the mg badge and know it's made in China and make their minds up before trying, there's a new facelifted model out now looks alot better in my opinion, personally I would get the 1.5 turbo one in top end trophy trim with the 7speed dct auto box in cosmic silver colour with the red leather interior, it's beautiful, I don't see the point of having the plug in hybrid that's got a 36 litre fuel tank(tiny) to have only 32 miles of range on electric only, it's gonna cost you more in UK to charge that battery up than what 32 miles of petrol would cost lol, I think mg should make a fully electric mg hs and the pure petrol mg hs but would be nice to see a diesel mg hs with a 2.0 engine , I don't think any mg cars have been diesel, great fun review guys greetings from Scotland 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿😁

This 2022 build model (same as this) has price crashed to around $39k range on the used market which makes it a bargain. If you do sub 50km a day, the petrol engine never kicks in. What scares me is that there are so many of these on the used market with very low mileage, wondering why a lot of people are selling them.

    • @CorvusHyperion

I think there are just a lot of them on the market as they are very popular.

Most people are selling them due to a number of issues. Just not what they expected, electrical & quality issues etc etc . Dealers generally won't take them as trade ins, & if they do, some will require a disposal fee which is up to or about 10% of the trade in price. You pay $35k , get $19k as a trade minus -$1900 disposal fee you'd end up with $17,000. Go onto the private 2nd hand market; you might get $3-$4k more. But it's like any vehicle, only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it regardless of how old or how many km covered .

Hi Really enjoyed your video, Perhaps I missed some comments, is it AWD vehicle, as you said the screen display looks below par, and from what seen I agree, I am still looking at the Rav 4, GR Sport, which I hoped would be on similar standing, the main display looks a no-no, great shame needs restyling with some knobs, would be interested on some videos on the Rav 4GR sport premium Best Regards Welshman 2081,

The one we had was horrible. The lane system would cancel itself, the cruise control would accelerate downhill, going over the set speed, the air con didn’t work, the dual clutch would crunch and all the “Chrome” was peeling and faded

Granted I had a base model MG HS as a rental when I was in Queensland for two weeks, it put me off ever stepping foot in another MG. Was the clunkiest, jerky, hesitant thing I’ve ever driven. You put your foot down, revs, doesn’t move, then bang… take off like a rocket. I know it’s their dual clutch and that’s not fitted to this particular variant, but just can’t do it.

  • @magicalwonton4806

I am actually surprised that they are still selling this thing in Australia. Even back in China they haven’t updated it since MY2020. I think MG has sort of given up on this, and it’s never been a popular choice within its price range. Seriously, avoid this and buy something else. Some Chinese cars are actually rly good these days, just not this one, I’m sorry.
