  • To celebrate World Space Week from 4 to 10 October 2013 we're uploading clips from Wonders of the Universe with Professor Brian Cox. With some of the world's most fascinating fossils in hand Brian considers how, but for an apparently obscure moment in the early evolutionary history of life, all the secrets of light may have remained hidden. Because although the universe is bathed in light that carries extraordinary amounts of information about where we come from, it would have remained invisible without a crucial evolutionary development that allowed us to see. Only because of that development can we now observe, capture and contemplate the incredible wonders of the universe that we inhabit.
Having explored the wonders of the solar system, Professor Brian Cox steps boldly on to an even bigger stage - the universe. Who are we? Where do we come from? For thousands of years humanity has turned to religion and myth for answers to these enduring questions. But in this series, Brian presents a different set of answers - answers provided by science.

actually the national geographic institute reported that the acceptance of evolution in the united states is about 40%, acceptance of creationism is about 35% with the remaining population being undecided. Among The scienctific community, acceptance of evolution is 97.7%. In europe, acceptance for evolution is 80%. this suggests the american education system is behind on its current understanding of evolution.

Dinos weren't reptiles, they were partially warmblooded. Many had feathers, some even had the ability to glide. The smallest dinos were best adapted to survive in the post-meteor world. Those dinos adapted to their new environs by making more feathers, which makes flying easier.
Look at all the evolving we've forced upon domesticated animals. Dogs come in all shapes and sizes even though they all started as Wolves. Given enough time we could make whole new species. Evolution is just slower.

  • @climid

dinosaurs were warm blooded due to a process called gigantotthermy. It involves warming the blood of the animal through the heat released by metabolic functions. this is only possible in very large animals like great white sharks and leatherback sea turtles but is an intermediate forms between cold and warm blooded. if anything it supports evolution.
Sylvester I dont think theres much point arguing on a science video as the scientific community is quite clear about evolution

extremely vestigial gills but yes. What your talking about isn't actually evolution but embryology, the study of the developing fetus. See All our cells originate from stem cells which transform several times. At one time in the womb, fetuses have vestigial gills (non function but present). these gills are composed of cartilage but dont remain long. the cartilage cells move off to the spinal cord where they form the disks in between vertebrae.

Ok say you cannot see you have no way of seeing the object blocking your way then you hit your head against this object and well it hurt but you have no way of stopping it then you think "what if i was able to detect the object with light sensitive cells?" well more or less this is what evolution is your cells and DNA process information to deal with problems on a physical level.

Accept whatever that is there as theories of evolution , unless you can come up with something that answers our origin and not only our but the universe's as well, and no matter what we do we will never EVER get an answer as to what caused it ..as there is no point of start as such...but only more mysteries to solve.

  • @DonJohnson13
    @DonJohnson13 Před 10 lety +7

No...you do not have "more evidence or creation". In fact you have ZERO evidence for creation. Because creation presupposes a creator, and you have no proof of such a thing ever existing or possibly existing.
"Makes more sense"...who cares if something makes more sense to YOU?! Whether something is easier to understand or not, has NO bearing whatsoever on whether it is true or not.

no archaeopteryx was not a bird, It had teeth, talons, non gripping feet, hands with claws but most importantly: it lacked a pygostyle which is one of the defining characteristic of birds. Evolution suggests archeopteryx was similar to birds but ultimately a dead end. Oher species like protoavis were much likely to be the ancestor of birds but not birds themselves.

we did not come from rocks, Not only is that false but that has NOTHING to do with the theory of evolution. That is the theory of Abiogenesis which is not accepted by everyone and thats understandable. Even among the scientific community there are many christians who find evolution to be fully plauside and in no disagreement with the bible. Heck even the Catholic church says evolution is fine.

I do love science and im a believer in Christ (not from believing in order to comfort my consciousness) but a true believer where i had a personal experience that scientist will never explain. The Bible contain statement that shouldn't be taking literally for ex. "If your right eye cause you to sin, pluck it out. For its better for your eye to perish than your whole body) they people in the NT would have been walking with one arms and three fingers if they took that literally.

but saying that life was created when we know very well that life has a common ancestor (of all life) that only appears in the fossil record about 3.5 billion years ago was a special creation is a bit of a god-of-the-gaps argument. It certainly doesn't sound like a personal or loving god, more like the god of Einstein.

As for the part about the bible denying evolution, Ive never read a passage that mentions the bottleneck effect, Sexual selection, genetic drift, allopatric or sympatric speciation. Most of these phenomena COULD NOT be understood at the time because there was no knowledge of DNA. I cant tell you the scriptures are wrong but you cant tell me biological forms of evolution proven recently by genetic data are mentioned in the bible

not sure I agree with the term "evolutionary big bang" how can the fossil of a creature with (what Brian Cox himself calls) a compound eye not have a long complex history of evolution. Just because we have found no record of complex life before the cambrian era doesn't mean it wasn't there. He talks about arms races, the race was on long before we discovered the burgess shale. to call it the definitive moment is just ignorant.
