Bus & Coach Wales Open Day at Merthyr Tydfil 09/09/2018

- Mrs M and I went up to Merthyr Tydfil today to see a show of Buses, Coaches and Cars. There was free entry and you could even go for a Bus ride for a small donation. It was a wonderful show, with the weather staying dry for most of the time.
I'm afraid I'm not a Bus enthusiast, as my main interest is Railways, but I do enjoy seeing these old vehicles, so my apologies for not being able to give details of each vehicle featured. We also enjoyed a bus trip up to Pontstycyll along some very narrow lanes, and the Driver did an excellent job behind the wheel.

I only heard about this on Friday, never knew that these shows were held at Merthyr. The bust ride was a real experience, with the Driver needing all his skills negotiating those narrow lanes.....Best wishes....Bob

This is only a small selection of the cars that were on show Mervyn, but held on tarmac at a Sport Centre it was ideal for this time of year...Thanks as always...Bob

Plenty of exhibits for all there Bob, great selection of vehicles, doesn't seem so long ago that the older ones were an everyday sight. Think I must be getting old!
I know Austin...No 36 at 0:38 I used to catch to school in the early sixties. Happy days.
Good to see old 100 back home in Merthyr my late uncle was a driver for Merthyr Tydfil transport and drove it many times on services in Merthyr

A great show of some lovely old vehicles there Bob. I have enjoyed many tours on coaches, some a few years old and one that was only four weeks old to Austria that was very smooth and quiet. Probably going next year on another coach holiday abroad. Hope it is a good one. Regards, Mike.

Would any of those older buses be used in daily service or just brought out for shows such as this one? My favorite British car marquee is MG.
They are only used at shows, or sometimes they are hired for weddings, they are to precious to go back into public service....The MG is a fine make of car....Bob
Hi Bob , well you covered this event well , some good old girls there , love the sound that comes through when the bus`s are running , not sure about the Funeral service advert though ..but then again its a fare price .....that Modern one of Edwards is very Space age looking ...wouldn't mind a coach holiday on that ..some nice old cars there as well , a few I can relate to ..not the Thunderbird though , love to have a go in that ....Dave
It was a surprisingly good show Dave, and the largest variety of Buses and Coaches I've seen for a while....and amazingly it was all free!!....Bob

That Edwards of Pontypridd Neoplan makes an interest comparison with the Bristol MW doesn't it (4:49). Is the Aberbeeg Funeral Home offering the chance to make your last journey in an ex Stagecoach Volvo B10M, then?
The Edwards fleet are some of the best and futuristic fleet of coaches on the road, but some of these older vehicles are still stunning to look at. The one advertising Funeral services made me laugh.....Bob
