    Hi Peter, just one tip, I ride 40k per day and I get sore so as I put my shorts on, I rub hand cream on the area that gets sore. This seems to help .

      Good tip, Richard. Does it work to reduce chaffing or just to ease the sore?

      I'd suggest getting a pair of lights, even if it's just to "be seen".
      I think it's forgotten that it's a legal requirement for sunset/night riding but it just reduces the risk of unforeseen accidents.

      @@eddyfieldhouse Good reminder, Eddy. As you say, lights are probably more to be seen than to see yourself.

    Another great video Peter. On the subject of age, I started cycling last year at the age of 46. I'm one of the youngest members of the group I ride with, with some members in their 70s. It was their encouragement that kept me coming back and I'm now a group marshal. I always tell them that if im half as fit when I reach their age, I'll be a happy man. One piece of advice I'd give to a beginner would be to find a local group to join.

      Fantastic, Alex! I love hearing about people who’ve found the joy of cycling later in life (not that 46 is that late! 😂). I’m always amazed when I see guys in their 70s and 80s still on a bike too. As you say, I hope I’m half as fit as them when I get there! 👌🏻
      As for finding a group, I couldn’t agree more. In fact, that was one of the things I mentioned in my ‘get fit in your 40s’ video last week, as it’s such a great motivator to get out when perhaps you’d prefer to stay in bed! 😂

      @@petertreadway my biggest motivation, and the reason I took up cycling, is fitness. I had 2 rounds of knee surgery in 2022, meniscus tear and second ACL repair, as well as suffering with arthritis all in the same knee. Prognosis from the physio was that I'd need a joint replacement in 5 years if I did nothing, but with regular, good exercise I can push that to 10 years. Pretty easy decision for me, and I've made a lot of new friends too 😁

    Falling off you say? Picture this. New club, new to group rides, first ever group ride, not showing myself up, keeping up, bossing the hills, knowing what CAR BACK! means and when to shout it; We reach a regroup point with a 180 degree tight turn to enter a local park to head back to our start point. Who utterly fails to remember to turn the bars, and whilst having one of those cartoon strip moments with !!!!!!'s above my head, forgets how to unclip, and gracefully topples over and lands HARD on their hip...? You're right. Not me. Oh no. Not me *AT ALL*...
    OK, it was me 😑😔😞

      Ouch! What hurt more the fall our the embarrassment? 😂.
      Hopefully you weren't;t too badly injured though, Sam and like any accident, it makes a Great War story now.
      Fingers crossed there aren't any falls like that coming up soon! 😉

      @@petertreadway Let me think. A fall in front of a bunch of seasoned, multi-Ironman triathletes, or a hard landing on my hip and shoulder...🤔 I'm gonna have to say it's 50/50 on that one... 🤐

    Hi Pete, great fun as ever, the age old underwear or no underwear debate raised its ugly head again (i remember your vid telling jimmy to ditch his 😂😂) . Great your spreading the message about cycling, im in my fifties and love it as much now as i did as a kid. Great channel.

    • @petertreadway
      @petertreadway  Před 7 měsíci +1

      I just can't let sleeping dogs lie on the topic of underwear, Lee! 😂
      As for trying to get more people on bikes, it was one of the original reasons I started the channel. I'm never happier than when on two wheels, so I want as many people as possible to have that feeling! Kudos for keeping your legs spinning in your 50s too. I just hope I can continue going until they have to put me in a box! 😉

    Thanks for sharing this great info Peter. Another great resource. 🙏🏻
    When I think about the state of cycling kit when I started in the 70s…there are no fond memories of wool jerseys and shorts with real chamois. Saddle sores were always a given when you were in the saddle day in and day out at training camp. Thank god for those anti microbial pads!
    By the way, that deer herd…wow!

    • @petertreadway
      @petertreadway  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Cheers Glen. It's weird how trends go full circle though (well, for me at least), as Jimmy and I are both really looking forward to buying some old school wool jerseys for when I finally fix my old 80s Peugeot up and we get out on that and his Raleigh Milk Race! I fully appreciate how uncomfortable that'll be but, in my head, it'll be like the Halcyon days of cycle racing! 😂
      And yes, that herd was huge and in fact it was bigger than what I caught on camera because as I rode off, I saw about another 30 or so at the crest of the hill!
      I really appreciate you kind words, as ever though.
