- In this video we visit Stanstead Abbotts Marina in the Lee Valley, meet the Surveyor and see the process of lifting a boat from the river and inspecting the hull. Plus a first chance to see Destiny my intended purchase.
She’s lovely. Great exterior color.
Ray Barretto. You've got the best music of the Narrowboat CZcamsrs. :)
Since it's wise to lift the boat out of the water and do a survey on the narrowboat. Might as well do a blacking on the hull while you are at since you will be good for 2-3 years.
Looking good so far.
Are those all cockel shells that have attached themselves to the hull? Is that bad for the hull? Do you scrape all of that off before putting it back in the water?
Hi sorry. I don’t seem to have been notified of these questions. They don’t really have any effect other than slowing the boat down through the water.
Hi Tony some useful videos here, and you have the perfect narrowboat dog, albeit without her doggy paddle certificate.
I've been looking at boats that are overplated, it sounds like you got the right chap for yours. Just wondered if you gleaned any info on overplating,.
I have a few questions if you have time
1 is it 'as good as new' structurally speaking?
2 will it last another 30yrs before it needs overplating again or can it only be done once?
Hello Paul again 😆. I am probably not the best person to ask. Yes, it adds years to the life of the boat. I was told probably at least 25. But you know it's all about getting the boat out of the water every 3/4 years. Speak, to your local boat yard engineer. I have found they are always happy to share their experience.
25 years is pretty good, I used to be in a boat club for over 10 years, funny how the subject never came up, There was a lovely 25ft narrowboat next to mine, I never saw it come out of the water, then one day it wasn't there the hull gave way. (boat heaven now)
You are right regular maintenance ... 'ship shape' not 'shit shape' :)
Amazing to me that it didn't break in half.
Joseph Crowell very strong framing welded to the steel.
Great video, what is the next one going to be?
+James Ford Hi James. sorry for the delay.... I am still not on the boat as yet... see reply to James. But next full video will be ina bout 2 weeks when i move on board. Thanks for you kind feedback... I am keen to keep the informative and not too chatty, unlike some of the other vloggers out there. Tony
Hi Tony are you going to do any more videos? I am keen to know what happens next.
+James Powles Hi James. Yes I am. I have been waiting for the finance to be sorted. Cant believe how long its taken, being self employed doesn't help. Yes, lots to do as the boat is 30 years old and needs modernising so keep an eye out. I am uploading a short video on the news today. Thanks for watching
Tina Woodworth Hi Tina. Those are tiny freshwater mussels that have made home in a marina where the boat was kept before I bought her. Thank for watching x
Do you need a fishing license to harvest all those muscles from the canal?
Spend a year cruising around in Scallop waters, make some money next time you lift the boat covered in scallops?
Have you considered buying a tripod?
Funny you mention that.. I was looking at one the other day and think I'll get one 👍
I have just ordered a 3 legged thing .. Awesome bit of kit.
And a proper microphone? Can't hear a word the surveyor is saying.
Yes... Early days of my filming but will def take on mic and tripod
