Great and very exiting presentation of these new technologies to produce green or clean hydrogen even negative emission hydrogen based on pyrolysis technologies. These hydrogen may be great for industry as consumers on industry who on one side pay for investment and operation cost and on other side they get money from government as credits for CO2 and they will be payed from industries who use hydrogen. This really i lucrative for government and businesses who always are "partner" on businesses but not lucrative for real consumers who will pay everything, they will pay taxes and the prices to make happy government and businesses.
On addition to these if peoples need H2 then they may like these clean hydrogen, but peoples need energy at home, energy for cars, energy for electricity and these energy is on KWhr or on BTU. Let see 1 mscf gas consumers pay today at 6.8 $/mscf (approximately) and this has 1 millions BTU. To get this energy from Hydrogen peoples will need around 8 kg Hydrogen and these consumers never will pay 0.85 $/kg H2, the consumers will pay 3$/kg to government and then government will "donate" these to businesses, and on addition to these consumers will pay every cent on the cost of hydrogen plant, then distribution and at the end the profit the companies will make.
So the energy transition from fossil fuels today to clean energies or hydrogen will need more energy than the world use today. The problem on energy transition can not be solved on these paths many experts shows, everything is becoming more and more expensive, including renewable energies. It is different haw businesses and governments work together and using computer programs and economic allowances, tax credit and many time and capital, and decrease the cost for public show.
However the solutions exists on energy transition and this is need not only to protect environment, but provide energy to sustain the actual wellbeing and improve the wellbeing on poor undeveloped countries. The world today is "suffering" energy" shortage no mater this is fossil fuel or clean. The world need the energy based on all what we have build today, the cars need gasoline and diesel, tracks need diesel, refineries need crude oil, coal plants need coal, and nuclear need U235. So the energy transition need transition everywhere which need centuries, only adopting what we have today to use clean energies more efficiently can lead on energy transition successfully. This can be done mainly based on geothermal and on nuclear energy, and after these Solar and Wind, and when concentrating solar energy will be effective and competitive, the hydrogen can be produced on molten salts and replacing hydrogen from steam reforming. Better will be that the companies work together and adopt solar molten salt technology on actual SMR. This may be considered "low hanging fruits" for Hydrogen industry and for chemical industry, refineries etc. etc..

very Interesting. I have some ideas on how to help reduce the energy input.

Methane pyrolysis will need low pressure of Methane which can be achieved by mixing pure pretreated Methane with inert like Nitrogen. What is the per pass conversion of Methane to Hydrogen in pyrolysis reactor? If pressure swing adsorption is to be used for separation of unreacted Methane, inert and product Hydrogen then gaseous product stream at exit of the reactor needs to be compressed before feeding to adsorption unit and then depressurized to recycle desorbed Methane plus inert back to the reactor. Suspect there will be side reactions to give side products. Use of catalysts can lower the reaction temperature. But catalysts and adsorbents need regeneration and compel to use multiple beds for ensuring continuous operation.
A guard bed will be needed before reactor and separator to remove poisons for the catalyst and adsorbent. Instead of using pure Methane, experiments should be done by feeding Natural Gas which also has Ethane and higher alkanes. Minimizing Slip of reactant in product Hydrogen gas and slip of Hydrogen gas in recycled unreacted alkane and studying impact of presence of product Hydrogen in reactor inlet on conversion of alkane to Hydrogen also need to be investigated.

Hello. If the H2 is used for a fuel cell or some other high purity processes, yes. But there is a huge potential market for serving energy users like boilers, burners and power generation that does not need pure H2. Some methane or other gases are fine for a combustion process.

the "Egg of Columbus"! The fossil fuel industry (at least the gas part) can also just continue. That will be a shock to some environmentalists (I'm also one), but rational thought must prevail.

no it can not. it does not allow for fossil fuels to be used as Energy source or as fuels. It however gives them a way to go with some of their business.

14:27 could we burn the Hydrogen in oder to get the Heat to do the pyrolyis?
would that be enough for that?
on top, could that process be scaled down to household size?
