Yes, cougars are elusive. I live very very rural, I've been on this land since 1991. I have seen cougar tracks from time to time but after these 3 decades, for the first time ever I saw a cougar. I'm sure they know I'm here, I'm sure they have seen me but finally I saw one. On July 28, sitting outside that morning, it just sauntered right by without a care in the world. I wanted so badly to get a picture so I got up and took a few steps to follow it but then I stopped myself. I thought, "No, don't follow it ... that's how people get hurt. Or killed. Leave it alone." SO I backed slowly and went inside. But what an awesome experience.
I saw 2 wolves for the first time last March.
I guess if you live in the middle of nowhere long enough, eventually you see things.
I live in Australia and all around me is thousands of hectares of state Forrest and national Park, me and a buddy of mine upset something way out bush, I think we crossed over its territory because we were sitting on the veranda on the farm and something started stomping around in the field near the house and it was literally shaking the ground from at least 40 feet away in the dark, then we heard some deep guteral vocalisations and at the end of the vocalisations one definable word, human, it scared the tar out of both of us. Needless to say we avoid that area now, neither of us will ever trespass on it's territory again.

That's why I always say that if it was common knowledge that these things exist, then if someone sees one they would just think, "Oh wow! I just saw a dogman" just like we do when we see any creature in our common knowledge, like "Oh how cool, I just saw a bear" or "cool a deer just ran past".
They wouldn't be traumatized and go into shock thinking, "Oh my God! What just happened! Am I going crazy?" Then experience social exclusion.

But these things are not just simply another animal like a beer or whatever. There is something supernatural about them and we know it when we see them. Our instincts tell us when something is beyond the natural and we automatically recoil from it. You can't just observe them like you're watching some other animal. Its not the same at all.

I guess its gonna sound weird but...
When i was like 10 years old, i was trick-or-treating with my brother and mother. Not sure how i got seperated but ended up being the only one on a certain corner. This thing dropped at least 20 feet from up in a tree... literally an inch from my face. I still remember one specific bead of drool dripping from the corner of its mouth.
No idea what i was thinking... but i instantly dropped to one knee and bowed to it.
Next thing i knew, my mom was tapping my shoulder.
I say this to back up this dudes opinion... i dont believe they mean us harm. They want to be left alone.
I find that’s true of most living things, except western women.
...oh l think they do mean us harm...with a mouth full up razor sharp teeth....and hundreds of people going missing in National parks.....and l have also heard stories of them helping people...rarely..but they're are plenty of survivors or we wouldn't know anything...

Amen. It’s interesting to note that many of these unusual sightings (Bigfoot-aliens) disappear if people invoke God. Many cases of alien abductions ending when people called on Jesus. Interesting topic. There are many cases.

Can’t remember the episode number but a few years ago there was a lovely gentleman who had those cherry bomb muffflers on his car when he was visiting his wife to be. I may have the name confused but this episode sprang straight to my mind and I can rehear that lovely man’s voice recounting his encounter as I hear this one.
I know the episode you speak of, it was one of the ones you can't ever forget!
Dogman Encounters Episode 128. This was the most believable and terrifying dogman story I have ever heard. It scared me so badly I saved it to my favorites. Most people talk about their encounters like a trip to Disneyland. I wonder if they are genuine because of their lack of emotion. This man saw something I never ever want to see!

That one is a very memorable one too; also the gentleman whose uncles killed a dogman. I think those 3 are the first three my mind associates as the voices taking the listener with them. It was the similarities in the story that really sprang to mind. It’s as though their intelligence has worked out a scheme and over the years they’ve not deviated from it. Speed, bends on road, noisy vehicle, running alongside, looking in whilst running alongside, everything. It’s as though it’s the go to course of action when they hear a noisy vehicle almost.
There’s so many more episodes where the survivor’s voice takes us along with them for the encounter and each and every last one is so important but I agree you about the lady and my personal 3rd is the gentleman and his uncles. I thought many times about the gentleman in episode 128 , thank you @cahrns!, I hope he’s well. Vic was going to catch up with previous guests at one stage; it would be great to hear from them.
Awww your Clark looked like a good boy. I sympathize...the Great Danes aren't built for longevity. I still miss my Tobi boy (1979-1988) also a Harlequin Dane.

Great episode(s). It’s been said many times that if the dogman wanted to kill a person, it would. However, I do wonder if perhaps these things have two modes. Hunting for food and hunting for leisure. After hearing so many episodes, I do believe dogmen share the hunting for-the-love-of-the- game with humankind. Not seen in any other animal. It seems dogmen love the chase and perhaps like felines, they play mind games with prey whether it’s for food or sport. The dogman can pursue you and quite possibly maul you, but suppose it’s not on 100 but maybe 25. It does not disagree with the notion of killing a you, but will afford their target a good chance to escape to make things more entertaining in a dark way. Think of the joker putting a blade to the jugular and pausing just “savoring all the little emotions” 🤪

I really enjoyed these two shows with Matt. I am an Oklahoman and know the areas well that he was talking about. Just 1 thing. We do have black bears in Oklahoma. I am in the panhandle, and Colorado is 15 min away. It's rare, and I think they must come in for the antelope heards sometimes. Thank you Vic
WOW 20 yards is 60 feet, 25 yards is 75 feet ... that's closer than people might think! I have a courtyard area
20 × 40 and if I imagine another 20 feet passed the 40, that's close! Obviously there were trees where he saw the dogman but still, one could definitely tell if it was a tree, human or something else!

I've never been afraid of dogs, still am not. I have an ability to just breeze right past some of the most vicious territorial dogs. I love dogs, and they seem to love me. But dogman. Yeah. I'm' not about to stroll up to one of those and say "awww what a beautiful baby." They can have all of the space that they want. I'm headed in the other direction. Both of the ones that I saw put a fear into me that I never dreamed could exist.

I'm from Oklahoma and grew up there in a very rural area. The deer could have been injured by a mountain lion/cougar. Yep, cougar.

We do have a some bears in Oklhoma. One was in OKC a year & 1/2 ago. We definitely have puma, cougars , mountain lion, whatever you want to call them. Coyotes dont usually attack large prey like that.

Vic, I think your show is by far the best about cryptids in CZcams. However, as a scientist and for the sake of keeping your show professional and neutral, I strongly suggest to not mix any beliefs as a way to provide any sense of (false) safety to those facing a dogman. After all, beliefs are just that and there isn't ANY proof that it will actually make a difference on the outcome of a daring or potentially dangerous situation, whatever the scenario. Just saying....and kudos for keeping up the good job!
