as a non-villa fan, i'm genuinely baffled by the lack of love they have gotten all season.
they have a great coach in emery who knows how to play at a high level without top budget. he was actively sabotaged by sanllehi with us so i'm glad he's in a better situation now. they also have a great front office structure working with him.
they have terrific young talent at so many positions, not simply players having career years. and what scares me most about them (and newcastle) is they have plenty of positions that can be upgraded fairly easily and possibly not expensively.
i'd love to have it explained why this is.

i feel you. it's nuts, though. villa is not exactly no-name. it's a club with history (to my knowledge). they were one of the clubs i was most afraid of because i wasn't sure if they might have pipped us for 3rd.
i get all the talks about europe being taxing - brighton, west ham, and newcastle all suffered from it this past season - but the big difference everyone seems to ignore is this is not emery's first dance.
Because pundits are mostly big club fans only like city,man utd,arsenal and Liverpool. 😅

I love Unia Emery not just now that he has got Villa to champions league but since his time in Spain, what a guy , works with very limited resources and makes the players tick and always has a smile on his face. Great guy on and off the pitch.
Dan did brilliantly to not just leave. That was very poor from everyone else
Villa's problem was squad size it was that simple, if Mr Emery can sign the correct players to bolster the squad and then rotate the team a little more

they had so many important players out injured . Mings, Buendia, KAmara and Ramsay . Take 4 players out of Arsenal for the season . Rice , Odegaard. , Saliba and tossard or HAvert , makes a massive differnce so Emery did brilliant , oh and did the double on Arteta .
Frank has no idea who plays for Aston Villa, that was the most generic answer ever. “Emery is good with the young guys”?, most of the guys who actually play are closer to 30.

I'm constantly hearing Aston villa being compared to Newcastle in regards to the season Newcastle had whilst competing in the champions league and how it affected their league form!! When comparing the two clubs the biggest difference is Newcastle qualified for the champions league without being in any other European competition at the same time!! Where Aston villa managed to finish in 4th place securing champions league qualification in the same season where they were also playing in the conference league (where they got to the semi final) whilst also having numerous injuries to first team players!! So you can't really compare Newcastle to villa because both teams qualified in completely different scenarios!!
Agree. Villa players so many more games than Newcastle this season and managed to finish 4th. Amazing. In fact villa played more than any English teams since the others lost in ucl earlier.

Man City 58 games
Villa had more games than Newcastle, not a massive amount more though
That being said I think you raise a good point that Villa got it done with the increased number of games. That bodes well for next season
@@jw1oon doesn't look massive. But that's 5 more games which is around 10% more to play in already crowded fixture. It's a lot more energy needed for those extra 5 games.

None of these pundits know the Villa Squad .the focus is always on the big six and Newcastle..its the second season of progression next stage is to strengthen the squad we don't fear any top team we're in pretty good shape
As an Aston Villa fan i think Emery has done the 4th best job in the PL as that is where we finished. Good only knows what Dan is trying to achieve with his question other than to annoy people.

Picking arteta over Emery is mad. Put it this way, if Arteta took over Gerard’s Villa, would they be in the position they are now? Not a chance. However if Emery took over arsenals current squad, the league would be won.

I'd go for Emery over Arteta too but as Nicol points out, it's a totally subjective question. Many managers performed amazingly this season for various reasons.

The grades is not entirely based on winning the league but rather, based on what you had (both on and off the pitch) and what did you accomplish..

So basically coming 2nd in the EPL makes you a more qualified manager than a manager who won 4 European cup trophies.

Villa fan. Villa ran out of steam and fit players at the back end of the season. Emery could not rotate players and had to have teenagers filling the bench. The last game of the season against Palace, Villa had 12 players out injured. Emery never moaned about the injuries Villa had. Villa will strengthen the squad in the summer.
I won’t worry about the UEFA since Emery had a lot of success in the cups. But I will worry about their premium league performance since their squad is not very deep and elite. They were over-performing this year. New Castle had a better squad and also Spurs, Chelsea, Man U when all healthy. So Villa will make UEFA 16 or 8, but will be 6 or 7 in premium league.

Man United only had Injuries during the second Half of the Season.. They went freaking last in a Group like Copenhagen and Galatasaray. Even as German i know that Newcastle had to play with pretty much the same Starting Lineup for weeks

They ended up collapsing in both EPL and Conference League. Only Spurs' even bigger collapse allowed them to finish 4th in EPL. A is too high a rating, B is more fair.
Ravaged with injuries and 50+ games. But we turned over city and done Arsenal twice effectively ending their title hopes. EPL game was mostly b squad. Conference league semis was awful timing re injuries.
only villas collapsed allowed Man City to win the title. Dont get what your saying here. They earnt fourth over 38 games they totaled more points. For a club that was battling relegation two seaons ago and not having europe in such a long time. Its a remarkable achievement.

Fpr instance Coventry have less money than many other teams yet still got to the semis of the FA Cup. Yes in theory Villa should have beaten olympiacos but at that stage they had several first teamers out to injury, their keeper suspended for the first leg of the tie and the focus for them had shifted to holding on to fourth spot.
