Thank you so much to each and every one of you for your continued support. I get to make these videos for a living, and I couldn’t be more thrilled about it.

I just love watching you! I am 61 and your generation's way of expressing yourselves is so nice. So I appreciate hearing your voic, as well as all your great ideas and vision.
I like the final reveal, especially the floating shelves. Glad you ditched the round mirror over sofa; it was way too small and hung too high.
Zactly!
I’ve watched a couple of videos and have liked the end result. A suggestion for a future video would be designing a room where three of the walls are painted in a dark color and pairing it with a complimentary wallpaper while attempting to achieve a serene but sophisticated effect.
Just a thought to consider. Keep doing what you’re doing....
Incidentally, the faux fireplace is a fresh, creative idea as compared to a practical, boring, played-out display table/tv stand.
Wayyyyyyy to small over the couch
OMG, Alexandra, stop talking so damn much and get yourself OFF camera. It's too much YOU
Totally agree. I was glad the sofa was also moved because I didn't care for that one light hanging in the corner. Kind of cheapened the lovely sofa.
A thousand dollars is not the number I had in mind when she said "affordable" 😂😂😂
lmao mte $1000 for a loveseat is 😬😬😬
Right? For real. Check out XO, MaCenna. Actually affordable.
My couch that size was $50 😶😶
I think that's totally "affordable" for a really stylish brand new couch. Although, in Australia, most new couches less than that are pretty crap.
10 years ago we bought a brand new 3 seated sectional for like $390. That was affordable. And it was also a fold out bed.
Everything seems so expensive these days
I think this was the first video with her current (2024) music, at the end. I've been watching all videos from the beginning of the channel and it's fun to see her evolution.
Haha, when I was a teen I would rearrange my room in the middle of the night and do a deep clean, my mom would come in the morning and just shake her head...my hubby use to joke that he figured he'd wake up one day and be in a different room! 😂🤣😂
Geri Hauck lol.. 👌
That's fun. I miss doing all that.. after I started hoarding.. there's no space to move things around T_T
My daughter was the same way. One o' clock in the morning we'd hear her moving furniture overhead. If she couldn't sleep, neither was anyone else.
Geri Hauck This is so me 😂
Geri Hauck I did that too
Love the end result, imagine if the pillars of the fireplace could have had doors to add extra storage for the books and yoga mat under the window.
I've seen off the rack budget fire surrounds that have the opening storage doors, so they are possible to buy
i didn't really get why the books were on the floor when the shelves felt kinda empty ? :(
I kind of like the books under the window they add a little more texture, color and interest to just a blank space
Even some ikea kallax units would have worked so well as clean minimal storage while still hiding the TV and record player cables, plus providing storage for the stuff under the window. It looks great overall, good job :)) but I’m not keen on the faux fireplace as it seems a waste of storage space to me.
@@jwsuicides8095: Your idea is a very good one. You can go to Home Depot or Lowes and get kitchen cabinets that are tall and narrow, paint them and make a base out of 2 x 4s to bring them off the floor. Perfect storage for very little money.
I subscribed because of this video. Your voice is easy to listen too. You give straight to the point information with just enough silliness. I loved that the project footage was speed up with your voice over instead of pausing to talk during the project. You didn’t ramble on about where you acquired the items you put in the room but did well on giving the information as to where we, as watchers, could find them. I loved this video and the renovation was genius. Bravo beautiful lady 👏🏼
Thrifting tips: know what you want but be open to what you find. Be willing to paint or alter what you find. Of course take a tape measure.
M Francis...100% agree❣ I have a miniature tape measure that stays at the bottom of my purse. You never know when you're going to need it LOL
Tape measure is 100% great advice
Totally! And familiarize yourself with what can and can't be easily fixed. Mentally walk yourself through, step by step, repairing/upgrading the piece how you want, and "pay" yourself for your time and supplies, then decide if you still want it.
Take client with you so you can coordinate with them in person.
My thrifting tip: I keep a running list of things to look out for, and keep that list in my pack at all times. Because I forget when I'm at the 2nd hand store or yard sales. Current list also includes sizes of glass and/or frames wanted.
Looks great. I would have moved that pendant light in the corner to above the bar table.
Nice point!
what I thought too
I thought the pendant light in the corner looked tacky,
Love everything except that black cord from the hanging light would drive me crazy!
Paige Shaw I would prob paint it the wall color.
Maybe dont paint the cord itself the flexibility of the cord would make that difficult but definitely get D shape cord protector that can hang on the same hooks and paint that the same colour as the wall
Can change that with washi (? spelling) tape ...simple fix
Kelsey from the Sorry Girls has wrapped the cord with yarn and under E600. You could do something like that so at least it’s adding a design element in the room
Yes that cord is awful
And since they moved the couch, i don’t even think it is necesary anymore, they should have pulled it out alltoguether
The light under the fireplace adds a new dimension to the room
LOL, totally relate to the comment about waking up in the night, it's normally a plant pot or something extremely heavy that I have made my hubby move and then the next day I just can't live with it and have to move it. Thank god he has the patience of a saint! xxx LOL
As soon as you put the couch back where it was I was so sad....it felt wrong to me immediately! Glad you sorted that out and made a lovely new living room!! Great job!
..... I agree, about the couch. It should have been moved away from that corner. 😔🙄 ... The other thing is, why didn't they just use the " mirror type tint ", I love it. You can see OUT but no one can see in, for privacy. The fireplace idea was great, I love having ANY type of fireplace. And, if you make a footprint of the room, and start there with trying to work out furniture arranging on paper, you'll see how muchbetter it is once you start working it out on paper you'll be able to figure out and narrow it down to like three or four times of moving the furniture not like 10 or whatever. And since I always consider Feng Shui when I'm arranging my rooms, I just think that's such a beneficial thing to do.
There are area she really want to activate in order to enhance things and then there's areas that you don't want to disturb too much, that are not " auspicious".
Marybeth Longstreth me too!
Love it all except the couch looks like it’s touching the radiator ...could be moved an inch or two over.
@@texasstardust6010 they moved the couch in the end. also they probably didn't do the mirror window thing because they were renting
The space turned out really nice. I really like the new layout. It seemed challenging but you did a great job! I would maybe add a window seat DIY with storage so that the books don't look so cluttered under the window.
That faux fireplace was EVERYTHING!
I loved those prints so much. It's so hard to find afro centric art that's minimalist, I bought 2!
I like to see a rug under furniture, not just floating in the middle of the room. Lamps are one of the best thrift finds for me. Add a new shade, maybe some paint, but a real budget boost. Also, putting the plants in front of the window would have provided privacy screening and given them the light they love.
I would love to see a video where you show the process of seeing the space in its original form for the first time, working out what you want to do, to then finding pieces online or otherwise... How do you find these gorgeous things?!
Rosee Ariane yes! this would be amazing.
I love Alexandra. I’m glad she rearranged the space. she should’ve put the books on the floating shelves!....Every time I see a radiator I freak out. She always place things right by them. 🙈
I’m 71 and truly luv this
Makeover
You are really a Star🎉🎉
Like...it's cool and all, but I think the faux fireplace was not a solution to the bulky desk media cabinet. There are plenty of media cabinets with built in fireplaces as well, often with cabinets on the side for storage. I think that would have been a better option (I support DIY, but it's not always the best fit).
Making it beautiful is great, but imo the primary purpose of any room is to be functional. Why not just put the books on the bookshelves? What about the lost storage space? The table looks great but it makes it difficult to go through the room. I would be very happy if you could find a way of making spaces pretty without sacrificing functionality.
Books are probably too heavy for those shelves
I love the idea of the faux fireplace with the lighting as a nice little staging area and the architecture it adds. I also really like the little dinette. Really delightful.
I always look forward to your videos! And I agree that you can wake up in the middle of the night & have an rearrangement epiphany haha! While some of these comments seem a bit harsh concerning your design... I am sure what you come up with on paper & then IRL accompanied with the time-frame can be a bit harsh on your creative endeavors too!!! Not to mention a fellow creative designing & building something that maybe wasn't what you had in mind? Faux fireplace? No functioning for extra storage? A faux fireplace in craftsman style with side cabinets literally would have stolen my heart! The little wooden appliques just get lost on that build! But I DO love the overall footprint you came up with in the room! Also love how you show the TRUE journey! Thank you for sharing your interior decorating endeavors!!! They are clearly INSPIRING!!!
Place the books under the window in a basket or some kind of container. Then they won't look messy. Love where you placed the couch. No fairy lights.
What have fairy lights done to you? lol
🧚
Love it. I feel like you could of gone a bit bigger with the mirror. 😸
I agree
Everyone may be bashing the fireplace, but I say GOOD JOB WITH HIDING ALL THAT CORD CLUTTER! I also like the fairy lights as an added touch. That gold ceiling light fixture is to die for.
I would have moved the swag light over with the couch. Lots of light where the faux fireplace was placed. Looks great!
I really want to see your process for hanging things on walls of all kinds. Your videos always show you just screwing the final thing into place, or placing the floating shelves on the mount. A lot of us don't know basic DIY stuff like how to know which drill bit to use for fixtures, how best to measure for decor, the best options for hanging art, what kind of anchors and drills to use for drywall vs. plaster.
You obviously do a lot of that for your room transformations - it would be nice if you actually teach us so we can do it ourselves 😊 Otherwise we've got a bunch of light fixtures and shelves from Ikea sitting on the floor and we have to call in a professional to hang them for us 😂
That's not really what Alexandra's channel is about though. This is a styling DIY centric channel. Some things we just have to learn on our own. Alexandra does explain some DIY basics (like hanging/positioning art and curtain rods), but that type of information is available almost anywhere. Books, Pinterest, even Lowe's and Home Depot have YT videos that explain exactly what you're looking for. Plus there are a lot of other DIY You Tubers who teach this information along with their DIY project, like Rachel Metz' channel, Living to DIY. If you're buying items from Ikea, they all come with directions and you can search YT for videos where people show you how to build it. When you look around, I'm sure you can find what you need.
@@danes7534 Fair enough, but she asked and I answered. If she doesn't do it I'll keep looking. 😊
@@danes7534 not styling channel. She does many make over that are much more than design.
You totally aren't crazy for just waking up in the middle of the night and moving your furniture around, I purposefully bought a modular couch just so that I can move it around whenever I feel the uncontrollable desire to but also so wherever me and my husband move we know that we're able to change our couch around to fit what we want for that area
I've been chewing my way through your videos. Just wanted to note how very much I appreciated this one for the tips on how to DIY makeovers. A tip on thrifting for you: I find a lot of revivable furniture by cruising the rich neighborhood alleys on the day before trash pickup day. TONS of outdated coffeetables, chairs and dressers can be repurposed with some TLC. Thanks for all you do!
You did an excellent job turning the small living room into a gorgeous living room area to relax and spend more time sitting watching Tv.👍🏼
Loved it. Only thing I would change is I’d bring the curtains up higher to give the illusion of higher ceilings since the room is so small.
MeteoricMarlin they were higher and then they moved the rod down, like why? Haha
Okanagan Blonde we had to move them down because the curtains weren’t long enough for the rod to be higher.
All the best DIY’s happen at 1 am
queen for colour coordinating her books
Canadians say couch in such a funny way! 😂 Now you won't be able to ignore it.
I think the pendant should be over the couch, for reading light.
The fireplace is even bigger than the desk was... and it doesn't have any hidden storage (except the record player) so her books clutter the place under the window now...
Blame it on the TV? No it's the fake fireplace. Way to big for that space.
Was thinking just the same. Don’t like it at all!
I thought the same thing. If she could have made the sides of the fireplace storage (hidden of course). I really thought she was going to hang the TV on the wall and maybe use small ottomans for seating.
She already had the books under the window though :'D
Annielle The TV should’ve been mounted and they could’ve got a longer, shorter storage underneath. That “fireplace” was hideous.
Oh my lanta! That faux fireplace mantel! What?! So beautiful!!!
I like the way you grouped your books by color, it’s very visually pleasing
The fireplace is brilliant! I love the record player and twinkle lights inside. Also, Putting the TV on that wall makes the place look 100 % better!!
The couch looks slightly plain. A few cushions and a throw should have done the trick.
And wrong color as it makes the room look smaller. A lighter color would make it blend better and thus, make the space look a little bigger.
@@skywalker6648 that blue couch was beautiful. I gotta disagree
Ok, can I just say? You turn dark small dungeons into paradise! Bravo 👏 👏👏
I loved it, what a difference especially the fireplace because her television was gigantic. These r things ppl don't think about. Lovely Alexandra on such a plain space. Good job 👍👍❤
Our plants also have names! The couch needs to ‘breath’ a little more, so a little more towards the door. For the rest I think it is perfect. Thrifting, just make a list of things you need, with the sizes, make a list of shops to visit. You can also call them and ask if they have certain pieces before you visit 😄
I wish you had’ve tidied the books under the window, they take away from the beautiful clean lines everywhere else.
Also, you should have moved the pendant light when you moved the couch
I wish the books would be at least on the wall shelfs! It's like there is a place for books but still they are on the ground.. oh why... :/ or if there was a tv stand where you can actually storage things. Like tv on the wall and lower tv stand with storage and on top of it you can display your decorative items or something. And If I watched tv there, I would prefer it to be on the eye level. From the couch this is little bit too high on the wall. But ok, if you watch tv while you stand.
And now I just see the curtain rods! Why they are not more high? I think also she knows it is basic knowledge to hang them more high than right on top of the window.
I think it looks great; that fake fireplace is genius. I could happily live there!
That faux fireplace is everything!!!❤️
💥Oh SNAP, the apartment I’m moving into this month has a living room the same dimensions as Kali’s! I’ve been worried about finding a smooth layout that will accommodate dining plus lounging, and you RESCUED me! More of this! 😍
(Also, Kali, you’re stunning. What a beautiful human, omg)
I like the romm, especially the fireplace. I like the concept of the dining area but the actual result looks very uncomfortable. What I don't get at all: Why style the schelves with some random object and stackt your books on the floor.? That looks cluttered.
Lol, I agree. You don't want to hang out there as it's not cozy or comfy looking.
Schelves
Same thoughts
Ragana Regnbue I agree on everything except the fireplace.....it looks a awfull and the objects inside looks horrible... Super messy.....👎👎
Those shelves can't handle a lot of weight 😳
I loved the video and then I read the comments and thought, of course, we are all underground decorators so we want to change things around even after you're done. So when we tell you what you should change, take it as a compliment of our involvement in the process. I assume you are moving those books to the bookshelves after filming or you could take the white coffee table and make it a mini library in another room. Put a little basket on the floating shelf for the remotes and that couch has center stage. You did a great job, even without me.
Yes! I have woken up in the middle of the night saying I need to change that.😂
Any worries about the sofa being so close to the heat source?
Literally binge watched almost all your videos and ended up rearranging my bedroom😂💜
I love these types of videos, tips that are broken down, ideas for rental spaces, and budget friendly.
I literally wake up in the middle of the night too sometimes with an idea to switch around furniture!
I would have liked to see how you put the Lack shelves on the wall (the drilling/screwing part) and the ceiling light (with the wires and such) ^^
I also would like to know how did you decide ...the distance btw the shelves ? That is always the hard part for me...looks amazing ...great job!!
Alexandra has tons of other videos that might show that😊
@@connieh.4689 So far, haven't found one ^^'
@@Pamoulove93 there are other wonderful ladies out there on CZcams that share that kind of stuff you might want to skim through some more videos... I hope you find them😊
@@suziekottke7673 deciding on the distance of your shelves is a personal preference. If you know what you're going to put on the shelves measure the tallest item so you will know how far apart the shelves should go. I hope this helped in the teeniest way LOL. Good luck
I don’t like the books under the window, they look cluttered. Everything else is awesome though!
Probably lacking storage now that that tv desk is replaced by the diy fireplace.
@@jlammetje exactly! 😄
The window frame juts out pretty far so they could have put a small shelf under there to tidy it a bit.
She can put a narrow bookcase, turn it on its side and put the books in it. It would work just fine under the windowsill. I've done this on my previous organizing jobs.
Yeah, odd that she installed three floating bookshelves but the books are still on the floor. Jaja
Would love to see more videos featuring couples' spaces that can marry the decor dreams of both!
YES
the place for couch is perfect it gives her all privacy, just awesome
Please do a (big) entrance makeover. Mine is very dark, I need inspo!
Thrifting tips: have a list (even if the item listed is "something that does blank function"), devote a whole day to driving around to different stores and be patient don't expect to find multiple items in one store and do rxpect to make some alterations!
I really like that you leave links to things you've used! And a lot of tips and tricks are very beginner friendly.
The one idea I'm not a fan of is stacking books or things on the floor. One has to also be congnisant of the fact that it'll need to be lifted or moved when vacuuming or cleaning everytime which is inconvenient
I can totally relate to waking up in the middle of the night with an idea to move something around! Then often I cannot wait for daylight, to make it happen!! I love thrifting plant stands or baskets to display plants.
Thrift idea makes a radiator cover out of wood paint white now you have an extra side table👍🤔😊
Eve R I think that she will have to move the couch again if she uses the rad cover. For me I would absolutely not want to be looking at that radiator and I would not want my couch pushed up against it when it’s on. I like your idea and will the couch still fit?
@@jenniferjackson9642 She doesn't need to move her couch, the cover can be made with a simple design don't use a think piece of wood just cover the top part haft only and will help protect the sofa from the heat 😊
Where can you buy the floating shelves?
Hey!! Loved this video. I thrift a huge portion of my decor and my best tip is to shop with the area demographics in mind.
For example, if you want to get vintage stuff, shop in an area with a lot of elderly people. If you want mostly new, do the opposite or shop in an area where people are more wealthy.
Hope that helps! I make videos about this all the time on my channel. Keep up the good work. 💗
Ooh! I'm coming over to your channel!!
Ok im rewatching videos and I just realized that is DIY Dani helping you!! LOVE HER
Highlights IMO: Hanging pendant light: Window film: Curtain rod: White shelves: Gold chandelier:
Society6 dancing woman print: Bar table: Society6 plant lady art print: White globe light:; a radiator cover could've been put over the radiator in the space near the sofa.
Love it !! I think you should have a draw for all your viewers and re-model someone's place . I'd love to have my living room designed and I'm sure everyone else would love it too . Keep up the good work girl always love your vids
One of the biggest reason my parents let me move into our sleep out (think sorta of nanny cottage) was the 4am room redesigning. Your definitely not weird for that
The place looks great , it would definitely look even better without a fake fireplace and would work beautiful with a useful storage peace and the tv on it
Thrifting tip - try to look for history of your hobbies (does that sound weird?) I'm for example a fan of transport and I have a retro modern style, so something I need once I have an apartment are the iconic red seats from the T3 tram, which, luckily, lie all around antique stores near me. Try looking for something that has been mass manufactured that you can feel nostalgic about.
Love love love that rug, what a find from homesense.
Really wish there was a link for it though! I love the color scheme!
A small ceiling medallion stencil around that new light fixture would be great!
LOVE LOVE LOVE the fireplace!!!! 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
Love the rug, the new light fixture, and the curtains.
Wow Alexandra! It's amazing how moving things around changed the space so much!! Love it!
I would love to see a Hallway makeover! How do you bring light/warmth/ brightness to a space with no windows.
Suggestions: paint it bright white, make flooring dark to contrast, put in brighter lights, add a mirror/s to walls. add a small table near door entrance with a small lamp on top (just some ideas)
I loved it hun! Style is so personal. You can't Ever make over a room and get EVERYONE to love it. If the girl who lives there loves it, that's all that matters! Ignore negative comments.
Love that you don't "over decorate." Almost minimal, but still warm. Good job!
thrift tip: make friends with someone who works at the thrift store so when you are looking for something specific they will let you know or even save it in the back room for you
You should do a challenge video where you thrift everything!! 😂
I’m obsessed with blue velvet sofas. But I have 3 dogs and a cat. So I will obsess about them in others’ spaces. Great makeover. Love the faux fireplace and those bar stools.
The best makeover you’ve done so far. But, yes there’s a but. The books under the window...nah. So clean, then there’s that clutter there. All in all though, FABULOUS!
She said the couch was affordable and I’m like okay girl👌🏼 and then I heard a thousand dollars 🤦🏻♀️... umm I don’t think she knows what affordable means✌🏼
That is in Canadian dollars - which would be less in US $$.
@Myrt Myrtle bedbugs exist in thrifted furniture such as couches and mattresses so i wouldnt suggest getting new couches this way.
1000 dollars is a great price for good velvet. Great piece.
It’s 709$ American
1000 dollars Canadian is 709$ (and some cents) couches are hard to find that are cute and comfortable
@@petriiaa18 It is actually $1199 usd on the article U.S website.
Danie please build a faux fireplace for me too!!!
I'm speechless 😭
I really like your style and you make specular things on a budget! That said, I suggest you invest in a steamer to put the finishing touch on your beautiful drapes and those lovely rugs! Wrinkles are just not good enough for your style! You go girl, you’ve got a great career in front of you!
That fireplace is terrific!
Nicely done! Glad you moved the sofa. That was major. But I am not a fan of "patching" wall colour. Why not paint over it entirely? Looks way better... I always see the patches👀 and the core of the pendant light would drive me crazy.
Speaking of crazy: yes I often wake up to brilliant (🤢) ideas....
Is the couch being by the radiator safe? They can get really hot. Overall it is really cute.
Avis Dyson without a flame or electrical wires, how could it be dangerous? It won't implode!
@@virginiadonnelly1031 The fabric is probably coated with a product that is fire retardant. I would think over time it would dry the couch out though.. I actually would have put the couch in front of the window and the table over by where the couch is now because of that very issue.
I don't think it will cause any safety issues but since half the radiator is now blocked it won't be as efficient at heating the room
it's giving me so much anxiety to have such an expensive couch next to the radiator omg
@@saammmy7 Exactly.
Your designs are brilliant and beautiful! If you ever want to make-over a small rental house (small - no usable dining room/dining table/living room/office combined/and a bathroom from 80 years ago) in bright, colourful, vivid colours in Hamilton, Ontario, come on by!!!!! 😁
Also seeing second time enhances just how good these solutions are . Thanks . Again.
I think this is def my fave... please come do my place ! My living room just serves as 2000 functions and I cant get it right
Why doesn’t anyone just paint their cord the color of the wall?
I've seen it done or cord covers.
What a brilliant idea....I never thought of that. Great soloution!! Thanks
Sometimes it is a design choice...used most often in industrial decorating.
I would have got a light that had a white cord. There’s so much white and light colours in there it would have looked more like a design choice.
Painting the cord the colour of the wall is something I’ve tried. The issue is that since the cord isn’t the same base colour as the wall it still looks different. It looks a bit better but still drives me a bit nuts.
That being said, it’s probably the only change I’d make since the client loves it overall. And it’s such a a small “fix” if she thinks it requires one.
@Makeup Music I hadn't thought of that, good idea!
You keep reminding me of my new great grand baby and you're similar to my granddaughter - in law ,so not surprising. I watch y😊ou ALOT and so I was glad to figure out why you felt so much like family ....
I love it when you show more of their reaction and your explanation of it to them. It's nice to see the more realistic aspects of the makeovers.
The DIY is beautiful but just as deep as the desk. So.. 🤷♀️
Location
it's taller and slightly narrower, plus it's not in the same location.
It’s a totally different vibe though. Looks beautiful
I kept wondering why you didn't put the faux fireplace across from the couch's original position.
So many makeovers on YT are disastrous so it's great to see something that really works.
YES! I’ve woken up at random times of the night because i thought about moving a piece of furniture ! 😂
