  • For about 5 years now, I have been consistently capturing operational steam locomotives of the former Denver & Rio Grande Western, and just recently I have been able to capture the majority of the locomotives that operate (and operated) at both the Durango & Silverton and Cumbres & Toltec. To celebrate this I compiled together my favorite captures of each engine into one video. Enjoy!

    I have seen most of these D&RGW steam locomotives. They are all very cool.

    487's whistle is oddly beautiful with its high pitch. Reminds me of EBT 17's fouled three chime.

      Narrow Gauge American short line content would be so awesome to have. The Train Simulator classic from Dovetail has two narrow gauge routes from a dev named Smokebox Simulations. Clear Creek and Rio Grande Southern.

      Possible chance will run again, but it seems the 492 has been chosen for restoration instead, despite the 497 having less missing parts.

    • @RioGrande486

      For now, she will continue to be on display. Hopefully one day the C&TS chooses to fix her so she can run alongside 492. If not, hopefully some volunteers will restore her, or maybe she could return to the Durango & Silverton after all these years and they’ll fix her up. Who knows? Maybe one day I’ll have enough money to fix her myself with a group of volunteers and she’d see steam again for many years to come!

      Not anytime soon. However, the C&TS recently announced they want to restore #492.

      @@ArkansasLocomotiveWorkshat’s a great locomotive to pick because It’ll fill the gap in between the already operating engines 491 at the Colorado Railroad Museum, in Golden and the 493 on the Durango and Silverton that is actually a great idea to choose an engine with an in between the number of the two already operating K37 locomotives

    What happened to 478? Why doesn’t she run ?

    • @RioGrande486
      @RioGrande486 Před 9 měsíci

      She was going to be traded to the C&TS for 483 back in 2015, but the trade never went through, so she was taken out of service in 2016. I recently talked to an employee and he said that the railroad is still deciding on whether they’re going to restore 478 or 486 to operating condition first. Hopefully both of them are back in steam soon!

      I mean sure, it kind of ruins the tradition of coal fired steam locomotives, but being converted to oil burners is better than starting another 416 and not being able to run ever again. So, yeah, just be thankful they’re operating.
