  • This is the first part in a three-part series, repairing rust on my Dodge Dakota pickup. In this one, I replace the driver-side cab corner/quarter panel. This includes the cab corner, rocker and body mount. Hope you enjoy watching it.

Hi Rob, this series is very helpful. I have a 2000 Dakota that I've had since new. It has the V6 and a manual xmission, and even though my friends think I'm an idiot, I'm gonna restore it. It has caused me zero trouble over twenty years and the engine is good, so I don't feel silly about it. But it needs a lot of the same work yo7're doing here, including a new box. Thanks!

Yeah, man. Good luck with yours. They are worth savings. New pickups are stupid expensive and these are pretty well made. Did you have the same frame rust in front of the rear axle that I did?

@@RobertAdairWorkshop no; my frame is pretty good. I had it undercoated a few times and it seems to have kept the frame pretty free of rust. It's still mostly black. But the rockers are atrocious. I watched your frame video and was worried about mine, but I was under there taking off the torsion bars and the frame looks pretty good, thank goodness. I don't have your welding skills.

I've seen a few other Dakota's online when looking for parts and all of them have rust here. I'd expect this is something all 2nd-gen Dakota owners will have to tackle. Good luck. I hope it goes well.

This was helpful to see how dodge did other models. I’m in the big rust boat with my 03 Dakota QC corners and 03 Durango rockers. Not sure if I’ll be looking for a donor replacement cab for the QC, but I guess I’ll find out soon.

cant go wrong with a flux core. they do the job .

  • @dilbotmacguillacutty4849

I wonder if those 'mystery holes' are for the jig's manufacturers use to align pieces prior to welding?

Hmmm. That make a lot of sense that it'd be for alignment and plugged up after assembly.

Check out my frame repair videos. If you got this excited about some cab corners, I can only imagine how those videos will treat you.
