    I have more "battle scars" on my body than my bike has gathered. It would be wonderful to be, or remain, perfect but it is not to be. Your RT is now a terrific example, even with blemishes, as is its rider!

    Im currently in Portugal, and unfortunately, I had to lay my 2021 RT LE on its left side after losjng my footing on some gravel. Same issues, damaged Cylinder Head Cover, and side pannier. Somehow i managed to get it upright again on my own. Thanks for the video. I will definately just order the parts and do it myself.

      I've just returned home and looking to fix my bike. Have you got a link for sourcing both the cover and ignition coil puller. As its on the left side in my bike, I won't need to remove the oil filler cap which should make it slightly easier. Any help would be appreciated.😊

      @@cracker3885 you can get a puller on Amazon here: amzn.to/3WguD6G - or there are plenty on eBay for a little less. I bought my cover from a BMW Motorrad main dealer (Vertu in Exeter). It actually worked out slightly cheaper than what I’d seen online, and you know you’ll be getting the right part. They can also get the plastic coil cover, if yours is damaged.

    The cost of parts from main dealers now is pretty frightening, but at least with BMW you can normally get hold of them, my Guzzi you would probably be waiting months!

    If the mirror and topbox scratches annoy you , think about some judicious reflective stickers in both locations, will cost pennies and cover the issues.

    On the topic of crash bars... Everyone has an opinion/experience on this subject but in my experience so far, they add weight and offer little to no protection. I was a strong believer in crash bars, i put them on every motorcycle i owned (5 in 6 years) from harleys to a bmw 850GS. I dropped the harley once, crash bars probably prevent worse damage because it didnt land completely flat but i still scratched my saddlebags, bend them, broken my clutch lever. On my 850GS which i dropped several times, i broke my handlebar guards, broke the brake lever and dented my fuel tank. I think whenever u drop a motorcycle on pavement there will be damage, crash bars or no crash bars. And it also comes down to luck how it lands and so on. I think for offroad riders they could make sense but im not convinced..

    • @CGRidesMotorcycles
      @CGRidesMotorcycles  Před rokem +1

      Thanks for sharing your first-hand experience. Confirms what I suspected. I’d need to have more than engine bars, because there’s the panniers, exhaust and topcase to think about. Adding that little lot isn’t going to improve the low-speed handling any… and I’m guessing it will only do the job if the tarmac you drop on is flat and level. Even then I’d have ugly bent/scratched bars which I would want to replace anyway! 😁

    As soon as I saw the title I knew pretty much exactly how it happened - something unexpected at precisely the moment that some crucial clutch control is required in a slow turn. It breaks your composure and you don't have time to rebalance the bike before you need to stop. And when _that_ bike starts to tip, there's _nothing_ you can do about it. Ask me how I know?
    SW Motech do some nice protectors that hug the covers - you don't need to do a full bar system.
    I'm very surprised at the cost of the parts. My guess was way over.

    Thank you so much for this video. I dropped my 23 RT in the garage and cylinder head got small scratch. Just wondering if this drop affect the engine internal performance or done anything that can’t be visually seen. Is there anything that i should be looking for? There is no oil or fluids leaks, no cracks and the bike performs normally.
    Thank you again and greetings from Saudi 😊

    • @CGRidesMotorcycles
      @CGRidesMotorcycles  Před 5 měsíci

      Glad you enjoyed it. Those cylinder head covers are tough - if you don't see any damage or cracks on the inside of the cover, I doubt very much that there will be internal damage. Mine took quite a hit, and has been completely fine since. The bike has also been back to the main dealer for a full service including valve clearances and there were no issues. It's an easy job to do.

    A heat gun to the lower part of the box should sort that out. Slowly warning it up like you do for car bumpers. You'll probably have to do it all to blend it in and sort the colour and should look new again.

    I hate to admit it, but I dropped my 23 RT. Twice in two days The first time, it took me to the ground and caused me a nasty concussion.. After a night in Hospital, I went back to my son's house to take it home. Still feeling the effects of the concussion, I go to leave, and my wife backs into the road and stops. I swerved to miss her and ran out of tarmac, on to the grass and I laid it down softly. So 2 days, two crashes, and thankfully, no damage. I do not have the top box for the same reason, weight up high. I did however find a set of new Wunderlich front and back bars for under half price. And will have them mounted at first service. OBTW, it took 4 firemen to lift it the first time, the second time my son and I got it up, and I rode it home with no more trauma. Ridden it twice since due to balance issues, but am getting better

    On a different note.You have already demonstarted being sensible and thrifty like a proper Brit. The head cover is scrached but it's function is not hampered....why bother fixing it...and potentially damaging something more serious.....?
