    If you plan on becoming an interior decorator, then practice having better than average patience. When I consulted the services of decorators, I was surprised to encounter people who lacked creativity, patience, professionalism, and work ethic. Too many of today's decorators want everything in a room to be white or beige. They add some "modern" accent pieces, then move gray furniture into the house. This isn't decorating. That is called staging. To truly decorate, people need to be bold and stop going for the easiest design ideas. Be creative. USE COLOR. Learn which colors complement each other. Study room layouts. Expertly mix and match patterns. Explore design techniques, fabrics, and textiles. You can't call yourself an interior decorator, if all you do is make everyone's home look like a staged hotel room. After decorating is done, a home should look lived in and personal to the homeowner. It shouldn't look like a local furniture store's showroom floor. Rooms should have personality and character.

      Thank you so much for this comment because honestly this is why it’s always been hard for me to try and get into interior decorating because it seems as if every single person just wants the new modern look and it’s so basic and plain and white and bright when like you should add different types of things in the different types of rooms, your style of house shouldn’t be the same thing as somebody else’s and your whole house shouldn’t be the same in every room. When decorating a room it should be decorated with cool colors that (like you said) and I’ve always said.. THAT COMPLIMENT each other and cool paintings and structures and random stuff that’s just honestly cool to look at.. stuff that’s different and has a true realistic vibe!

      @@victoriaxlynn For many years, the world of interior design has gone unregulated. People could decide overnight they were going to be interior decorators because they get compliments on decorating their own home. That is why so many people are untrained and unskilled in the industry. Things are changing. Interior decorators are now taking courses and earning designations and titles that qualify them for interior design projects. Highly-qualified interior decorators should come with references from past employers and clients. They should also have a professional website and a design portfolio with samples of their most recent work.
      Anyone who is interested in a career in interior decoration could contact the American Society of Interior Designers online. Though it isn't an accredited school, the ASID Academy is a continuing education and professional development training platform for interior designers. A growing number of accredited universities are now offering college degrees in interior design, with a interior decorating specialization. I think the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City offers a degree program in interior design.
      Keep in mind interior designers and interior decoraters don't have the same profession. Interior design is the art and science of understanding people's behavior to create functional spaces within a building, while interior decorating is the furnishing or adorning of a space with decorative elements.

      you can do both and apply online for a job to get the flow starting, but in order to put yourself on the map you just have a degree in design otherwise companies tend to ignore your request

    To break and be an interior decorator is to find passion on the objects and the history of it and just pair color that contrast and compensate each other in different lights . Certainly you have to learn it but not by doing courses and spends money on stupid courses it’s a passion. Who has the style and the love for the objects can be a decorator!

    • @xoliyah6553
      @xoliyah6553 Před 3 lety +4

      courses could help tho, although its a passion it’s always good for a creative to listen and learn from other creatives, nothing is wrong with that. But yeah i do agree that its more a passion than just going to school

    The downside to interior decoration is that taste is subjective. I appreciate her talent, but I prefer unified, minimalist layout, both because it's easier to maintain (and thus promotes a healthier environment), and it doesn't clutter the view. Too many patterns, sizes and shapes are visual static.

    An interior decorator is what most people are but they falsify their professional label as an interior designer. They are both very different jobs and they can also be hobbies. Any person can decorate their own house but if you want to make money from it you have to go to school. I’m sorry I’m not going to pay for a designer that has no education or license.
    If a designer wants to make money by doing something that is really expensive to obtain then that person must have a degree and license. Don’t be fooled by the label.
