I was ROBBED, they cut my bike... mE 21 🇱🇧

  • I escape from my hosts in Baalbek after realizing that they were probably planning on robbing me more. I ride as fast as I can to Baalbek, there I get my bike repaired, and after it is repaired, I put my bike in a minibus going to Beirut, in order to avoid having to ride in the Beqaa valley, where an ambush was probably waiting for me.
    Then I arrive in Beirut, and after being very scared, I finally feel safe again, far away from the hosts who sabotaged my bike, and who searched my bags.

    It seems they (1 or 2 of them) were trying to arrange for you to get robbed by somebody else and split the proceeds (without you knowing it, or figuring it out later on)
    That is why they let you film them, and always tried to show how nice they were...
    It could have worked if they did not make 2 mistakes:
    -they got greedy and took part of the money ($400), and you noticed it
    -they over-sabotaged your bike to the point that you noticed it
    my 2 cents.

    • @KinoYves
      @KinoYves  Před 2 lety +139

      Wow, I never thought that someone else was supposed to rob me, in my mind they were gonna rob me themselves, but I think that you are completely right, it's much smarter this way, and it definitely explains why they let me film them, and how enthusiastic they were about the filming.
      It also explains why they only took part of the cash in my bags, and the way they let me go from their house despite the bike being sabotaged, and what the half bald Hadi said when I left by surprise: "good luck"... This "good luck" always remained very mysterious to me, but now it's all clear!
      And yeah, you are completely right about their two mistakes, without these two mistakes, I would have naively ridden down the Beqaa valley, and then I was surely gonna get properly robbed, that's 100% sure.
      I am really glad I took this minibus, and that they didn't know that I could fold my bike. It's so great that I was able to just vanish from the Beqaa, without them being able to understand how I could do that, it makes me so happy just to think about them, or those supposed to rob me, looking for me everywhere in the Beqaa, while I was already in Beirut. And now I really appreciate Hadi's phone calls when I was in Beirut, when he was saying all the time "where are you, where are you???"... as if I was gonna tell him...
      Thank you very much for your comment, it clarifies almost everything.

      @@KinoYves it happened twice. The first, just outside cape town, time a guy came running to me and suddenly grabbed my handlebar to stop me, while there was another group running towards me from the shanty nearby. Because this happened during daytime on an open road, nearby passing truck driver started honking loudly when he saw my struggle, they all ran back after that. In the second attempt, near a town called Springbok, a group tried to snatch away things from my moving bike. I caught speed and fled off.
      all in all, africa is a continent of extremes, this will definitely be one of the highlights of your life (for both good and bad reasons lol). one simple rule you can try to follow is that never leave your bike out of sight - even in villages.

    Wish you all the best for rest of your trip. From watching all this I don't think those guys planned anything bad for you. If they did they would have done it. However someone did stole your money and your fear of unknown was justified. I did share of my own travels long ago, money and documents were always kept in small traveling pouch on my chest, exept when I showered. Your journey is entertaining even without major drama. Most attractive aspect of your video travel journal is for viewrs to see goodness in random people you met in all these different countries. Keep it going!

    • @KinoYves
      @KinoYves  Před 2 lety +34

      Thank you, and as you saw in my first videos with them (as long as I was oblivious of the stealing and the sabotage), I never had the intention to show anything bad about them, so I do prefer to show when I meet good people. But I also don't want to falsely show that everyone is good in this world, so if something bad happens to me, I will show it as well.
      Regarding this video, I really think that most of the family was genuinely nice, especially the parents, but also all the neighbors. And stealing is something very very bad in Islam, that's why, in my mind, as long as all my stuff was in the house of the parents, the guys were not able to take anything from me except some cash, because their parents would have kicked them out of the house if they would have taken other objects. So in the house, I was completely safe, thanks to Islamic rules.
      So the stealing did not scare me, it just showed me that they were not good people. What scared me a lot is the fact that they cut my rack. They obviously cut my rack with a purpose (you don't cut someone's rack just for the fun of cutting it). If my rack is cut, then I can't carry bags anymore on my bike, then I will need someone's help to carry my bags to go to Baalbek or somewhere else, and then someone who has guns, who already took money from me, will help me, and will be with me and all my stuff, far from the eyes of the family... and that is very scary.
      So even though this area seems lawless, these people do have a law, it's the Islamic law, and for me, cutting my rack was their way to meet me away from the eyes of the Islamic law (in this case, their family, their neighbors).
      Well, that's why I felt the urge to escape.
      And just to add something that Westerners usually don't know, a good Muslim will always be nice to a traveler, because respecting and entertaining a guest is very important in Islam, the Guest somehow helps the Host connect to God.
