I'm thinking of getting a cheap fold down bimini top for my 16' jon to keep the sun and rain off me. You might want to consider it also. Much more comfort if doesn't get in the way to bad.
I catch 8 lb channel Catfish all the time in Michigan. Our state record is 40 LBs. Catching one over 30" would be a great challenge for Catfish Dave. Or we have Flatheads to chase.

Just an fyi it’s not a %chance of rain. It is the percentage of a given area will receive some rain. Not the likely hood of rain. So only 15% of the say 50 square will get rain. Or 75% of those same square miles will have rain at some point during the day.
There's a reservoir here in Central va,absolutely full of shad,alwives,white perch and there is nobody fishing n ones that do aren't catfishing,untouched jewel I believe

From what I have seen you are dragging too fast. Look how many bites you got when you slowed down your speed ! The kayak is probably only going 1.8 what were you throwing at 3 or 4 when you drop down the two you couldn't keep up with them.

I wonder if the flapper rig would work even better with a stinger hook in the flapper peace or would you risk the fish swallowing the hook?
July and August I fish at sundown for 3 hours. Or for 3 hours ar sunrise. Big ones start feeding at full dark.
I have had absolutely zero luck with live bluegill. The gar love them, but I haven't caught a single catfish on live bait.
We cut the tails off and we catch loads.
Love using flapper baits. Works great with blue gill also

Dave try putting them fresh Skippy in water and freeze it. When you thaw it out be just as fresh as when you caught them

They will go into logs and other holes they can find. Some of them are pretty tight.

Bluegill work good in open flowing rivers. Also strong current rivers with long distant between dams.

Fresh bluegill, crappie, and live shad with their tails cut off worked well for me
We caught em pretty good Sunday evening outside Sale Creek in the main channel on Chick. Using fresh blue gill flapped open like that on one side.
