We need far more awareness for men with Lupus. I have a rather sever case of SLE as did my own mother. Being a white male many people look at me sideways when i tell them I have Lupus because i am a male, as well as Caucasian. I have all the proof in bloodwork as far as positive ANA, speckled pattern in my ANA test, & positive Anti DsDNA blood work. All of that along with the symptoms of Lupus. So to any Dr who looks at my bloodwork it's obvious along with the symptoms and my mother having Lupus that I to am suffering from the same disease.
Years of sports when a teen, elite Army years, diagnosed then with gout and just soldiered on, thinking don’t be a puss. Suck it up soldier. Fast forward 25 years, not one dr even thought about lupus testing. Only decided to follow up with an RA because a close fam friend, female, thought she also had gout, found out she had lupus. Took her advice, even though I’m a guy, and bam..... found out today. At least now I know it was in “my kind” when days of not being able to move.... Feel bad for the ED issues, no issues there, but the psychological issues just hit me in the head. For myself, it was the past, knowing all the hard core tests and accomplishments, soldiering through the pain, and realizing now I know why I felt or feel the way I do. Feel sorry for the others who don’t have the same support structure, luckily I have a wife who is xtremely supportive and says I don’t have to prove anything anymore. Men need a purpose, so with this video I can sympathize with the men who don’t have that. Don’t give up gents, we live in a world now that preaches equal rights, take solace in knowing being a hunter and gatherer doesn’t mean what it used to be.

Oh on another note when talking about diagosis time. It took 13 years of "it's crohns" onto it's in my head. Onto me doubting myself and looking for answers for the symptoms and flare ups. Then on a random whim one Dr listened to my mothers downfall from Lupus along with the Dr i saw having an uncle who passed away from Lupus so he sent me for in depth tests saying being a white male is a stupid reason to not at least rule. Low and behold I had Lupus that was misdiagnosed for a miserable 13 years.
Thank you for the video. I was recently diagnosed with Lupus. The fatigue and joint pain can be overwhelming some days. I have a job that requires a lot of activity and it can be a challenge.

My older brother 28 has lupus he’s in the ER rn his skin looks soo dark and patchy and his hair is soo thin. He definitely doesn’t look good and is having issues moving/critical thinking any advice ?

How recently? I was diagnosed about 6 months ago after 13 years of my Dr's misdiagnosing my issues as Crohns.
