    I was WAY too young to appreciate this one when it first came out. The visuals were beyond anything I'd seen at the time, but the rest? Yikes.
    I was so disturbed by the scenes of Neo being "bugged," then later unplugged from The Matrix that I really couldn't get into the rest. Once I revisited it as an adult, it all made sense to me, and I saw what a game-changer it really was. Seeing it on the big screen for its 20th anniversary screening was even better.

  • @dtavs_exe
    @dtavs_exe Před 2 lety +24

    Fun fact is that originally the machines weren't using humans for energy, the body would make a crappy battery biologically speaking, the original idea is that the machines were using human brains as CPUs to process information, but then they thought this concept would be too complicated for most people so they changed it to batteries.

    • @Spaceagefox
      @Spaceagefox Před 2 lety +2

      you can realized how they reference that in having neo working at a software company in the matrix, he literally spent his life in a data processing hub, writing software like a machine

      @@Spaceagefox Never thought about it, but yeah you are right, nice catch.

  • @johnsmith9205
    @johnsmith9205 Před 3 lety +3

    The "Energy/Battery Power" part was (allegedly) supposed to be "Computing Power of the Brain", and it would make a lot more sense - humans would be the computers on which the matrix itself was running. That also explains the agents literally seeing and hearing anything people plugged into the Matrix can see and hear, and agents being able to take over human bodies in the simulation. There was (allegedly) some executive meddling before it became "Energy/Battery Power", because it was "easier to understand" (while actually physically unsound).
    As for simulations in fiction, there was quite a lot of that being explored in Star Trek - TOS and TNG.

Notice Neo only have glasses on a few times this whole movie. because most of the movie he's confused and not in power. Agent smith takes his sunglasses off when "leveling" with Morpheus during the interrogation. etc.. watch back through and you'll start to notice.

    Few things, first and foremost, you have to watch the video where they edit the subway fight scene between Neo and Agent Smith to where all of the punches Neo throws on Agent Smith are all the throat chop hits, it's super funny. Second, if you haven't figured it out yet these movies have a huge Christian tone to them in that everything, including the name of Morpheus ship, is something out of the Bible, when Agent Smith is talking about the first Matrix he's talking about the Garden of Eden. I haven't yet watch your reaction of the other 2 films at the time of typing this, I will this is just where I am now, but Neo is not "the one" Agent Smith is, I'm going to watch your other reactions to see if you figure it out and I will explain more on part 3 if I don't see someone else has, which I'm pretty sure someone has. It's kind of like how the original 3 Star Wars films make you think that Luke is "the one" when it's really Anakin/Darth Vader.

    In addition to the Matrix trilogy, I recommend watching the 9-episode Animatrix ;)

  • @thepinoychoppingboard1012

    I remember watching the trilogy on their premiere nights. Matrix installments were few of the movies that were ahead of their time.
    Btw, may I suggest you react to, if you haven't seen "Pay it Forward" movie. Different genre from this one but that was a great movie to react to. The protagonist kid there portrayed the son of Forrest from Forrest Gump movie, Haley Joel Osment.

    No, humans would make worthless batteries. The original idea was that their brains would form the neural network, which ran the Matrix and provided processing power for the machines. Which makes far more sense.

    Great video. Keep it up!
    This one was simultaneously ahead of it's time, and also old enough that I rented it on VHS when it came out. I watched it til the end, pressed rewind, watched the screen until done and then pressed play and watched it again. Blown away.
    It didn't make a convincing story of how we are trapped in a simulation though. Because why would the AI trap us in a simulation of a world whit computers and VR where we understand the concept of AI? That's just asking for trouble. Better to make the simulation a ordered version of perhaps 12th century Western Europe for example. People would believe and do whatever the church tells them. If they experience anything out of the ordinary, they would probably think it's a miracle of God or something of the Devil and consult their local priest, who would be an agent (including everyone else through bishops, cardinals and the pope). Also if anyone manages to see through the simulation, they would be seen as possessed or heretics and taken care of. Anyone who would be convinced by these stories wouldn't understand what happened anyway. Problem solved!
    WARNING - tiny spoiler about the sequels - WARNING:
    So now the filmmakers understand this and have to make Reloaded and Revolutions to explain that this was the plan all the time. [cough] (bullshit) [cough] (bad script) [cough] If you hate on the sequels, you better hate on this one for making the sequels necessary for this one to make sense.
    Still, it gets 9/10 for the effects at that time and the entertainment. 7/10 overall.
