- Tokyo Ghoul and Tokyo Ghoul:re are some of the most amazing manga I've ever read and the anime adaptation was, sub-par to put it lightly.
In this video I go through all the reasoning I can come up with to convince you to read the Tokyo Ghoul Manga, whether you're completely new to the series, heard about it from the hype it had some years back, or even if you're an anime only watcher who felt disappointed, I hope to shed some light on what makes this manga so special.
I did try to keep this one as spoiler free as I could, but there are a few spoilers which I do give warning to prior so just watch out for those.
None the less, I hope you all enjoy this one as it's a bit of a different vibe to my regular videos and is a bit of a passion project I've been wanting to create for a while.
If you did enjoy don't forget to leave a like and subscribe and leave a comment too letting me know what you thought, any and all support is greatly appreciated.
All art and panels within this video are covered under fair use as transformative work as seen within: 10. Transformative Use and Quotation

Hope you all enjoyed the video, bit of a different vibe to my regular videos and was a bit of a passion project I've been wanting to create for a while.
Feel free to let me know what you think, and what your thought's are on Tokyo Ghoul whether you've read the whole manga or even just watched the anime I'd love to hear what you've got to say.
Don't forget to leave a like if you did enjoy and subscribe if you're new as it's greatly appreciated and will keep you up to date with all the new videos I bring out.
With that being said I hope you all have a fantastic day.
I haven’t watched or read Tokyo Ghoul but you’ve definitely got me interested. I liked the more calm approach to this as well the video turned out great dude.
Drawzee thanks heaps man that’s exactly what I was going for, I’d strongly recommend checking the manga out if you get a chance it’s honestly phenomenal.
Viseak just wondering if you know where I’d be able to read the manga? Aside from buying physical copies of course.
Drawzee yeah of course man you can read the whole series on Batoto
Viseak awesome thanks.
They did Ishida dirty. Tokyo Ghoul deserved better.
I agree, Ishida suffered so much (even losing his sense of taste) I hope TG will get the Brotherhood treatment.
I hope this really gets remaked. I'd fucking chip in my high school savings to get it petitiones

The manga is really the best. The story is great and plus the drawing/art style is beautiful asf
H. ydnna the art style is absolutely gorgeous hey, some of the best looking manga panels I’ve ever seen come from Tokyo Ghoul
@@Viseak Really gorgeous, it made me collect the manga book itself
H. ydnna I’m currently waiting on the Re: box set to come out to complete my collection, really keen on it as I did enjoy Re: more than the original and having the physical copies is a good excuse to re read it.
Viseak I already preordered it as there is a sale on it the box set right now. Not a huge sale, but saves some money. I am super pumped!!!
I just buy it one by one whenever I have budget for it since I'm only a student lol
Tokyo ghoul was my first anime ever and I loved the first season but then it got very confusing so I finished the entire anime and was very confused so I decide to get the manga even tho i never read a manga before long story short the manga is probably the best thing ever made and now I'm hooked on both anime and manga but so far I haven't enjoyed anything as much as I enjoyed the Tokyo ghoul manga

Everytime Kaneki fights Arima and says "I want to live" I almost cry. This series is so beautiful and touching and it legitimately makes me upset that so many people see it as mediocre because of the anime.
That's exactly what I did!!!
Kaneki didn't even join Aogiri, for me that's a big difference. Also they skipped the raid on Kanou's Lab which is very significant for the plot.
Fr the biggest thing that killed me in the Tokyo Ghoul anime was him joining Aogiri. He even said in the Ghoul chapter that he'd destroy anyone who tried to ruin his way of life. Aogiri clearly was ones who were in his way, they literally made his life go through the second major shift causing his personality shift and raiding Anteiku and the anime creators thought it was a good idea to join the same people who were ruining his way of life which goes against his character arc he established
I wish I could delete my memorie and read this manga again
sssj * man I feel that way about a lot of anime and manga, as of right now I wish I could just delete attack on titan and experience it for the first time again.
@@Viseak ya exactly
I wish I could do that with the old shows I watched, back then I watched dubbed and I didn't realize at the time how bad they were
@@Viseak is it as good as aot? If it is then i'll read it cuz the last chapter of aot is so fucking depressing
Raja Susana umayma personally I prefer it to aot, although aot is arguably a better story and will probably stand the test of time as a modern classic, I just found myself attached to Tokyo Ghoul and it’s characters more.
I just finished Tokyo Ghoul shit left me empty inside n it was amazing truly 10/10
That empty feeling at the end is the best sign of a great series in my eyes
The Manga should get a remake. Look how FMA got the brotherhood treatment. Even Fruit Basket did too.
ALSM if Tokyo Ghoul could ever get a brotherhood treatment it’d be fantastic, I mean it honestly deserves it.
@@Viseak If Fruit Basket can (and it worked out pretty well), so can it.
Because fan wants and people will love the show. Chances of that happening are still big.
Even Hellsing ultimate got that treatment
I actually liked the original FMA slightly more than the Brotherhood. So the comparison that you made is a bad one
@@eve_______ So, the Fruit Basket type remake then.
Just bought the box set of the entire manga bc of a really good deal I found. It will be my first manga ever. It’s super excited it should be coming in the mail today!
Daniel Arce that’s awesome man! Hope you enjoy it as much as I did
Viseak it came today but I’m not sure how to go about the experience because as a person who hasn’t ever read manga and only watcges anime I’m not sure if I should like watch and episode or two to get used to the music and voices. Should i do that?
Daniel Arce honestly just dive straight into the manga, the anime isn’t quite an accurate representation of the story in the manga so I probably wouldn’t recommend watching it first, but you definitely can if you feel like it would get you hyped up to read!
I’d also recommend taking your time and not rushing through it, Tokyo Ghoul is a great manga and has a lot of detail you might not pick up if you read through too fast.
Viseak thank you. I defenitely won’t rush it and I will take my time but I just got finished watching the first episode and it was really good. I’m not gonna watch any more of the anime but now I know the feel and what everyone sounds like so I think it was worth it. Thanks for responding!
I’m reading it rn
After watching the first episode there are a bunch of hints in the manga that I never would’ve paid any mind to had I not known anything. I’m definitely gonna lay a lot of attention when reading this.
First watched the anime, was disappointed. Read the manga, LOVED IT
It really do be like that, the anime is just an empty shell compared to the manga
Tokyo Ghoul I definitely my favourite manga series of all time. I even draw like Sui Ishida
(Meme)
Is it possible to learn this power?
@@crazyitalianguy000 yes it is indeed possible, I kept on drawing the tokyo ghoul volume cover again and again, until it was almost the same, now his and art style is almost similar, of course my one doesn't have that many detail as his
This is an agree from me. Back when the anime came out I watched it and liked it as a kid but once season 2 came out I was super disappointed. I just fell off of it. Got into the manga out of curiosity and I was pleasantly surprised and dumbfounded at how they fucked up the anime adaptation. I kept pestering my friends to read it since I knew they'd like it and Re but only one did 😅
If you like Tokyo Ghoul you have to read the manga.
Nycto I feel like we’ve all been that guy trying to get our mates into the manga! Great to hear you got into it and enjoyed it though.
I know so many people who were underwhelmed by the anime and just wouldn’t give the manga a chance because of it, but the difference between the two is night and day.
Thanks for watching too and feel free to subscribe if you haven’t already 😄
But why? Manga has a different story?
@@raffaelecosta8858 The anime changed the story
Have you watched Jojo as a kid? How old are you now exactly?
The Tokyo Ghoul manga is my absolute favorite manga of all time. I think the reason I like it so much is because I disliked the anime. So when I first read the manga after watching the anime, it gave me a whole new meaning and perspective to the story, characters, and world that I couldn’t experience through the anime. Great video!
Thanks! It still baffles me how bad they messed up the anime in comparison to the manga, I mean it did generate a lot of hype and was very well known, just for the wrong reasons, so I guess something was done right a lot of anime don’t even get that far.
It’s still a shame though as so many people have dismissed the entire series based on their view of the anime.
Same situation. The terribleness of the anime made the manga so much better for me, in addition to it literally being the first manga/manhua/comic/whatever that I ever read.
I watched the the whole anime and my expectations were dead but then I read the manga and my mind exploded by how brilliant the manga was
Awesome video bro! Tokyo ghoul is a special anime/manga to me. Season 1 and :Re part 1 I think are proper adaptations but root a made me lose interest because it strayed away from the manga
BreakOps thanks man!
I’ve read a decent sum of manga in my life and nothing’s stood out to me quite like Tokyo Ghoul did.
Root A in itself is just a shame and I still to this day haven’t brung myself to watch the entire thing. At least season 1 was adapted pretty well and RE wasn’t terrible at least, just still can’t even compare it to the manga haha.
OMG, I thought I was the only one who preferred TG:re over the original TG!!! Like, it's so much better!!
TG as a whole is an absolute masterpiece of manga and I'll always be mad at the fact that the horrendous anime adaptation ruined its reputation :(
Lol me too😂
I preferred RE because I felt it was where the climax was at it’s peak and it was where we understood the “truth”. To me this made the story so much more intriguing and different to any other.
Also characters were getting their developments after the time skip (some of my favorite character developments were juzou’s and Urie’s)
And lastly can’t forget Haise Sasaki an underrated Kaneki persona and I thought his character added A LOT to the overall story (even if he was present for a short while).
I really needed a happy ending, the entire manga is just so tragic, there were so many moments where I just thought the author was a sick bastard LOL. I didn't expect much from this story but it has become one of my favorites too, I also loved how we got both perspectives from the CCG and Ghouls. I didn't even bother watching the anime after season 1 because I knew they wouldn't be able to give the artstyle in the manga justice.
This manga is masterpiece. Forever in my heart
*reads title*
This man gets it
I just started reading it today and I am already hooked it's so much better than anime 😁
The Gaming Kage that’s awesome to hear! Glad you’re enjoying it
9:55 THANK YOU, my god the amount of people who are angry about that, when what you said is so true.
tompatompsson no worries at all man haha
I feel like there’s way too much negativity surrounding the ending and as someone who actually enjoyed it I had to say something.
@@Viseak Yeah I mean the complaint about it feeling rushed is fine but to complain about this...
@@Viseak I completely agree!!!! The ending was definitely rushed and overall could've been a lot better, yes, but it was still a satisfying conclusion to the story and the characters and I believe it doesn't deserve the hate it gets.
jus finished all volumes of the manga , one of the best mangas i’ve read inna long time most def 10/10 👨🏾🌾
Why TG manga is different from the anime?
I mean storyline is really different...plz tell me I am so confused
@@nochinchinhere9339 they didn’t go over big plot points in the anime basically
I recently decided to watch TG. Saw the second season episodes had this "A" symbol on them, and thought this might mean they were anime original. Sure enough, the tone was different, and the way Kaneki was behaving felt nonsensical to me. When I looked up the first ep of :Re, and saw how jarringly different this seemed from the end of season two, I instantly went and read through the manga instead. I figured they pulled a Blue Exorcist, with later part of the first Anime being Original, while reverting back to Manga plot in the next season.
I don't regret it. The manga (especially :Re) was a good tearjerker. I liked how it succeeded in making me feel for most of its cast, and you can understand the reasons the two main sides are fighting equally.
Whether you watched Tokyo Ghoul or not, I also recommend the manga (while also agreeing with the pacing criticism).
I do like the ending as well. I appreciate the thematic completion of Ken Kaneki's introduction quote about his story being a tragedy.
It’s great to hear you swapped over to the manga while you were still interested, I’ve noticed a lot of people get disappointed and just fall off, never giving the manga a chance.
The manga really is something special and while it has its flaws, it truly does cement itself as one of my favourites of all time and although the ending seems to be polarising amongst the fans, I’m glad you enjoyed it as I did as well.
Blue Exorcist and Tokyo Ghoul are my two favorites. Unfortunately both were messed up 😅 I'm doomed
I started with the anime. Loved the first season, second season was great too, re was so boring that I dropped it after 1.5 episodes out of confusion and boredom.
Now I'm reading the manga and it's really enjoyable, the only flaw I have so far is that in the fights it can be hard to make out whats happening
atiedebee yeah I can see how the fight scenes can be hard to make out, that’s a general thing with Manga it’s always easier to portray a fight scene within an anime.
However honestly I feel like it’s portrayed pretty well in the Tokyo Ghoul manga and the art is so amazing it makes it a very worthwhile read, hope you enjoy none the less!
@@Viseak I am enjoying it a lot atm, but I've read only one other manga (Tsugumomo) where the fight scenes are amazing so I had to get used to this way of making them.
The biggest thing that killed me in the Tokyo Ghoul anime was him joining Aogiri in Root A. He even said in the Ghoul chapter/episode that he'd destroy anyone who tried to ruin his way of life. Aogiri clearly was ones who were in his way, they literally made his life go through the second major shift causing his personality shift and raiding Anteiku and Ayato hurt Touka who was a precious person to him and the anime creators thought it was a good idea to join the same people who were ruining his way of life which goes against his character arc he established. It makes no sense that he would make that decision and is honestly bad writing
Kaneki joining Aogiri literally made absolutely no sense and it was from that point on I just could not take the anime seriously anymore
Yea i was just so confused why kaneki joined aogiri in the anime when aogiri literally the ones trying to destroy everything basically~
I'm late to this comment but agree! When I saw that chapter I just couldn't believe it and was SO relieved when I read a comment saying the manga was entirely different.
@@jhoaaa me too, i was so happy he did not join aogiri when i read the manga and it made a whole lot more sense
I always images that 1. Kaneki was weak, and realized he needed to grow stronger to protect the ones he loved, but that he wouldn’t be able to achieve that strength at anteiku or 2. Kaneki no longer wants to coexist with humans, as they will always be there to hunt them down, so instead of waiting for the doves, he wants to help aogiri establish ghouls as dominant in order to protect the weaker ghouls. I actually think it could’ve been a really cool twist, but I don’t think they made it believable, and especially when fans were already expecting it to go in another direction
Thanks for your video, I'll definitely put the manga in my plan-to-read list.
I already watched the entire anime and I never got into it for a couple of reasons. First of all, I watched "Tokyo Ghoul" and "√A" in the dubbed version (in italian in my case), and sometimes the voice performances were pretty silly. An other reason is that at the time I hadn't watched yet many anime, so I didn't get the entire thing about "ghouls" or its core themes. And finally, the terrible adaptation of the story left me always more confused than engaged.
Now, two years after the "Tokyo Ghoul:re" anime ended, I have became more familiar with anime as a medium, and I have matured also as a person. I realized recently that "ghouls" were not an original concept of Sui Ishida, but that they are derived from the dark fantasy sub-genre, and that was the beginning of my re-evaluation of "Tokyo Ghoul". After that, I wanted to listen again the OST of the anime (the only thing I remembered being worth of value), and so far I'm enjoying it very much. The next logical step I should take is reading the manga, but I was still a bit skeptical about it - up until now, when I heard your thoughts and advice on the series. For that, I really appreciated your honestly about some things like the pacing and the ending, two topics that I wanted to assure myself.
I'm still uncertain if I need to read "Tokyo Ghoul", though. I generally avoid stories with dark tones and violent contents because they often make me feel unconfortable (in fact I think I'm the type of person that gets upset more easily than others), but on the other hand I really want to change my mind about "Tokyo Ghoul". But that, in the end, is a decision that I must take on my own.
No worries at all!
Even the English Dub for Tokyo Ghoul wasn’t fantastic, I mean the anime in general wasn’t that great even in Japanese but the localisations definitely wouldn’t have helped.
It’s great to hear even after watching the anime, that you’re still interested in reading the manga. It’s almost like an entirely different story and although yes it can be a bit dark at times, it’s a lot more psychological and I think you’ll thoroughly enjoy it.
Speaking of the OST, I had someone else in the comments mention listening to it while reading the manga enhanced their experience so maybe you could try that too if you enjoy it.
None the less thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!
Just finished Tokyo ghoul + Re mangas, and I loved Tokyo ghoul, and most of re, but I hated re's latter half. I really disliked the ending, as well as the general direction of the last bit of the series. I love Tokyo ghoul as a stand alone, and re was very fun in the beginning.
Jr honestly as a whole I tend to prefer Re, arguably yes Tokyo Ghoul was written better and of course as Ishidas mental state towards the end of Re changed the way the ending played out, but personally I really enjoyed it and felt as though after the tragic ending of Tokyo Ghoul, Re almost deserved a ‘happy’ ending, and if Ishida went down the tragic path again for the end of Re, I feel like it would’ve almost felt overdone at that point.
But hey that’s just me, I think I’m definitely in the minority for a) liking the ending and b) enjoying Re > Tokyo Ghoul
@@Viseak i personally think the tokyo ghoul ending worked on its own and that re was pretty mediocre especially in the later parts but to each their own i guess
plate I feel like the ending of Tokyo Ghoul left a lot unfinished with so many concepts unexplored, that Re was able to hone in on due to it coming from a different perspective.
I can see how the later parts of Re can seem mediocre and to be fair a lot of people tend to agree with that, but yeah I definitely enjoyed it, the way I think of the ending in particular is like the amalgamation of all the weight and pressure everyone throughout the story has put on Kaneki’s shoulders finally burst through the physical manifestation of ‘Dragon’, which is also a personification of that fact in its own right.
It’s like the reality of what many protagonists in fiction go through but pumped up to 11 and showing the actual toll it can take on a person to put so much burden on them, and I feel like that’s also how Ishida felt when writing Re especially towards the end, there was so much pressure and so many fans with high expectations as well as publishers and everyone else in the industry on his back, it’s clear his mental state wasn’t the best by the end of Re and he wasn’t particularly enjoying drawing manga anymore, and that’s also more than likely the reason he opted for a happier ending to Re, rather than another tragic one like TG.
@@Viseak I don't take issue with a happy ending. For me, the ending felt like it just turned into cloudy with a chance of meatballs, where kaneki just ends up destroying a bunch of terrain, and spawning henchmen in this weird finale that felt like it belonged in a spin off video game and not in manga panels. Same thing with the return of "Rize"??? That is just another game exclusive feeling character that we see nothing from before she dies again. It just felt so self contained, exactly like how video game spin offs feel. I couldn't suspend disbelief. Even kaneki's new kagune formation felt like a game exclusive form that was made as a treat to fans. I liked Tokyo Ghoul because there wasn't anything that made me think "wow, we are really rushing now, aren't we?" and even things like kaneki's weird ghoul gills, and previously unseen ghoul organs. That stuff all just made me raise an eyebrow. I just felt like a lot of content didn't fit in a way that was compelling to me.
@@Viseak if anything i think the re ending was way less fulfilling than the tg ending i really liked thaat he left it up for interpretation or so id thought before i heard of re
I watched the entire anime, thought it was pretty cool but only 5 or 6 out of 10.
Then as a joke to meme on all the “dead inside” people I bought the manga and I absolutely loved it. I suppose it my favorite manga right now, idk if berserk can shake that in future but I relate to the ideas of TG so much that I doubt.
I am currently on Re part 12¿ Idk I wanna read it physically only but due to the circumstances (not financial) I will be able to do that maybe in 3-4 month.

that anime (especially after 2nd season) is almost an insult to an awesome mangaka like Sui Ishida -_-
the only thing I love about the anime are the few of the first chapters and unravel lol

PHX 15 no problem at all!
I originally heard of the series from the anime so it’s not a bad starting point, but the manga is just leagues ahead.
Definitely give Tokyo Ghoul Re a read it’s truely fantastic.
“Oh sure son it’s called,GO READ THE FUCKING MANGA”
Tokyo Ghoul:Re ending spoiler
The reason why I liked Tokyo Ghoul:Re's ending is the ambiguity of it all. The last panel we get of Kaneki on Chapter 178 is him falling into the dragons body that has become liquid and he is full submerged. He hears someone say they been watching him and thats it. The next chapter all we get is told that Ayato saved him and the rest is basically filled with the absolute best case scenario that Kaneki could hope for, also worth mentioning that he looks the exact same he did when he got submerged, but enough time has passed for their child to be born and be a couple years old already. Perhaps making the centipede dragon form created a permanent change, but without any explanation or reasoning its hard to accept. Their child also has white lots of white in her hair, despite both Kaneki and Touka having dark hair genes. I ain't mad at anyone who thinks that happy ending really did happen, because that's the beauty of the ambiguity of it.
I’ve seen this theory a few times, but it just doesn’t make sense. The main problem with it is the fact that the final chapter is narrated by Hide, and he’s the one who reveals everything that happens to the characters after the story. If it was narrated by Kaneki, then you could argue that the final chapter is possibly his final thoughts about what he hopes will happen in the future, but that simply isn’t the case.
People say the anime was bad I actually just see it as a marketing way it makes you want to read the mange
Actually, I don't see tokyo ghoul manga being in the top 10 of anyone with taste
Said no one ever.
Imagine going on a date, become a new species, get a job, get tortured, get your memories wiped, become a new person, make friends, regain your memories, become the strongest being alive and becoming something either human or ghoul, just to lose your virginity at the end.

I can't believe you didnt talk about Jason and his torture. How he had to choose between two people; who lives and who dies. Bro how they were the people who planned to escaped Jason with Kaneki. This was the final fork in the road that forces Kaneki to accept his feral side.
Know im late but i got 11 volumes of Tokyo Ghoul for 50$ in basically perfect condition im so freaking happy
Damnnn that’s such a steal, good on ya!
Ok so to sum it up: Kaneki has lost his memory due to
brain damage from the last fight in season 2, CCG
exploits this to recruit him as an investigator with a
new identity and with the progression of the story he
slowly discovers who he truly is. In other words we are
supposed to be confused at first and then clarified as
we watch the show further, so as to put us, the
audience, in the same position as Kaneki (character
relatability). Hopefully this makes you more willing to
continue watching the show.

@@pp4792 yeah
tokyo ghoul re is the second season
i wish i could experience the manga alone because i didn’t start reading the manga until after i’d watched the first half of the :re anime
I watched the first two seasons and a couple of episodes of Re before starting the manga because I wanted to hear what their voices sound like in the anime so it would be easier for me to read the manga that way since I like to imagine the characters' voices in my head while I read the dialogue. I also don't read a lot of shonen so the very detailed but very well drawn fight scenes can sometimes confuse me. I also really like the OPs and EDs, especially the ED for Root A. I know the anime has a lot of flaws but I personally loved the first 2 seasons even though they changed the plot quite a bit.

joaquin pandolfi glad I’m not the only one who thought so. When it finally hit me I felt a bit dumb but it was kind of confusing which isn’t a bad thing.
@@Viseak yeah I don´t think it´s a bad thing. on some way it feels better to be as confuse as him
Guys where I can read this manga for free?
Black Magic you can read both Tokyo Ghoul and Re on Batoto
Just picked up the first 2 volumes hella excited
Ok so I’ve only seen the anime in it’s entirety. I knew when I started that season 1 was pretty accurate & more or less a straight forward adaptation of the manga but season 2 differed from the manga (which I thought was fine bc while they’re are disaster fires w that route there’s also great things like FMA 2003) however where I started to get worried going into it was when I knew that the second season differed from the manga but the third season went back to more or less adapting the manga straight again.
So TLDR: I was terrifying the series would be COMPLETELY confusing because of them going back & forth on when they adapt the manga that I held off watching the series for the longest time.
& then I watched it. & ya’know what? I thought it was pretty good all the way through. It made sense at least in my head & while I did read up on the changes to the second season b4 starting the third to my surprise the story rlly didn’t change all that much. Like the plot points still happened but for different reasons & while I can understand & agree that the manga’s character choices that led to the bigger plot points were better in the manga (especially w Kaneki) I think the anime did it just as right (especially bc the mangaka told the anime director to make his own thing w season 2 while still following the major points) so in short i think season 2 & the anime all together is overhatted as the changes between the manga & season 2 weren’t THAT extreme (except the kaneki one) so while I’ll admit going off the mangas season 2 era events & the rest of the anime that was more or less the manga adaptation that the manga is probably better the anime is by no means actually bad or terrible like some ppl say or act like it is
I love both the manga & the anime both have their flaws but are both have perfect elements too
I just finished the anime and have started reading the manga and am glued to it
Yanno if this ever gets re-animated i think they should do cut cards with tarot cards the look and the explanation along with the number so fans can like GET in there like us many readers they should've also made the anime less colorful. And longer. It was too much in too little time and i hated that. They also should do more with his mental states like that was a big driving force for the manga.
My cousin once called the
Tokyo Ghoul anime "complete dogshit"
I got the box set for Christmas (voulumes 1-16)
That’s awesome dude! Hope you enjoy it
That phrase was ment for berserk and tokyo ghoul adopted that phrase
Kyle Wiebe I feel like a majority of people know Berserk for the manga though, and it’s pretty widely accepted there’s never been a good anime adaptation of it.
Whereas more people know Tokyo Ghoul from the hype the first season of the anime got way back when and never looked further into it after that which is such a shame considering how good it actually is
@@Viseak oh i agree completely with you man I didn't even think you'd see my comment, I recommend the manga for tokyo ghoul all the time it was the first episode that got me into the manga and I thought the animation was too fast paced even season on for how good the manga really was
Kyle Wiebe haha yeah I figured we were on the same page there.
I try to reply to as many comments as I can while my channels still small and I can manage it all.
But yeah I feel like a lot of people went from Tokyo Ghoul season one straight to the manga like I did but it’s a shame there’s so many that haven’t, I very rarely hear big youtubers talk about Tokyo Ghoul outside of the season one OP and I feel like a majority of people tend to be in the same boat, they know of the anime from the initial hype, just never got into it or read the manga which is just such a shame as the anime is nothing compared to what the manga has to offer.
@@Viseak Its a shame in my opinion tokyo ghoul is the first I could describe as poetic with how its flows and covers tragedy
I’ve read the manga but I have to say that I absolutely love the anime. Hell, I actually prefer some aspects of it over that of the manga. I love the art style of the anime, especially :re, and I found the animation to be great. I don’t understand why people complained about the animation. I liked seeing everything in color; the monochrome tones used in manga can distract me from certain details. If you look at the anime as its own standalone, it’s amazing. I never found the anime to be confusing at all, as certain plot points tie in later on. I still recommend the manga but I honestly wish the anime could’ve been appreciated for what it is. It saddens me to see the anime get the hate that it does, and sometimes I feel bad for even liking it since many people in the fandom have bashed me for liking it, especially the hardcore manga elitists who act like the anime is worse than Satan himself. “Fans” like that make me feel ashamed to be a Tokyo Ghoul fan. But I feel that I have to defend the anime in order to help more people appreciate it and get more people into the series since the fandom is dying fast
Btw if I read the manga after seeing finishing Tokyo ghoul s2 , will I be confused (should I read it from the start to understand re?)
Where do I get the manga though x
anywhere. comic shops, barnes & nobles, rightstuf, shonen jump app
You can even get it off amazon
The one guy who enjoyed the anime right here.😁
the tg anime after season 1 is a crime
Haise couldn’t agree more, even season 1 is pretty mediocre, but at least it looked nice and had a great OP
So is the haise guy the kanike guy but he got brainwashed and then he like slowly finds out who he is?
It's a little more complicated than that and I'm actually planning to do an entire video on Haise in the future, but essentially yes that's a pretty simplified way of putting it haha
Viseak oh cool Can’t wait! I want to get in to this manga seems cool.
Tell me why I watched the whole anime and liked it and then read the manga and liked it more!
I love the Anime but now I want to read the manga but I finished the series’s and I know everything about the ending do you think i should read the manga?
I still think you should give the manga a go if you have the time.
The story is a lot more fleshed out and you’ll likely enjoy it a lot more than the anime, and considering you loved the anime I’m sure you’d adore the manga.
@@Viseak thank you am going to start to read it when I find I good web site
@@Viseak I've just completed the anime...and honestly I kinda loved it😅 But maybe that's cuz my friends explained most of the confusing things to me. I wanted to ask that...are the main characters acting differently in manga or just the story is well explained? What IS actually different in manga than the anime? Please tell so that I can decide whether to read the TG manga or move on to a different anime
I JUST FINISHED READING THR MANGA
ONE EYED KIND!!! XD
FUCKING HELL!!!!
Guys I've watched 2 seasons of TG and when I started the third I realised that something's not right and so I found out about the problem the show has. Now if anyone could help me and tell me which chapter in manga should I start from? I mean the chapter after the end of 2nd season.
@Zean Lee I don't really have a lot of free time that's why I was thinking if I could start from where I left off I'd save a lot of time.
@Zean Lee then I'll sure take your suggestions and read it from the beginning. I'm jus very thrilled by Kaneki's personality.
Why TG manga is different from the anime?
@@nochinchinhere9339 The anime changed a lot of stuff, Kaneki didn't join Aogiri, he wasn't even half as edgy, manga was several hundred times bloodier and darker. They also removed little details that made dramatic scenes better.
I just bought vol 1
That’s awesome to hear! Hope you enjoy it
@@Viseak thanks
im not going to lie. I love the root a ending way better, i think its more satisfying
When did they show that first fight with kaneki and amia cause I only remember the one in re in the anime
It was in og Tokyo ghoul in the last arc, I Believe it starts around chapter 137 or 138
@@cesaralonso8943 I wonder why they didn’t show it it the anime that would explained so much 😂
I am anime only, and i love the series 🤣🙏🏼
Hey props to you man, I still think you’d probably enjoy the manga more tho (if you read manga that is)
Same and then read manga and it just made it better
i will probably get it in a few weeks cant wait
Is it just me that in the anime, I thought I missed a season at the start of season 3
Do you guys know where I can find the manga? I wanna read it bc why not:)
you can read it on the shonen jump app. 1 week free trial, then $3 a month
Tokyo Ghoul is definitely the biggest disappointment in anime for me. A manga like Tokyo ghoul had the potential to produce the best anime of all time. they could have fleshed out all the characters, went into more depth with all the mini-narratives, and beautifully animate the fight scenes. it could've been great
what are all kanekis forms because I just saw the seasons and my mom doesn't want to bring me to the book store aww man
You can always read it online !
Can you guys share where do you read manga? I really i want to read the manga of this anime...
Outside of buying the physical copies its honestly a bit of a hard one to read online at the moment, maybe if you have a look at the r/Tokyoghoul subreddit they might have some updated links there on where you could read it
Shonen jump app. 1 week trial then $3 a month
Ive read a bit of Tokyo Ghoul and the fighting scenes are kind of hard to read. Borderline a mess to me. Does this improve later and with RE? What's your opinion on the fight scenes?
In the first arcs of the manga it's a bit hard but in re are better
Loved your video! I really hate how you say R E instead of Re (pronouncing it “ree”)
Julien Mason thanks man! I’m not 100% sure but from memory it’s suppose to be pronounced that way, I remember reading about little Easter Eggs surrounding Tokyo ghoul, one of them being that Re, means king in many different languages such as Maltese, and as I’m half Maltese I thought it was pretty cool to see the word used in that way.
The whole theme and idea of a King is so important throughout Re surrounding the One Eyed King title that the correlation between Re and King in the context of Tokyo Ghoul just made a lot of sense, so alas I’ve been pronouncing it that way ever since.
Viseak I knew all about the king thing, but I didn’t think it would be pronounced R E. Even knowing this, I will continue to say Re as it’s what I’m used to and it rolls of the tongue better for me. Thank you so much for the informative reply, it’s really great to know more about these things.
Julien Mason that’s alright man haha, I had a feeling you might’ve known I remember it being a fun fact spread around quite a bit.
It’s hard to know how things like that are pronounced especially in the sense of a manga, even things like colour can be misinterpreted. For example I remember when the manga panels first came out for naruto shippuden showing Sasukes Rinnegan everyone thought it would be red and there was some really convincing fan art out there showcasing it in a red colour, only for it much later to be confirmed that it’s purple.
Viseak I’ve had experiences like that too! I read a manga and then I check out the anime and sometimes I’m caught off guard as the colors aren’t what I anticipated. And the meaning of Re isn’t just in a fun fact around the internet, it was actually included in so either volume 6 or 7 of :Re as a kind of foot note on the last panel. It’s the one where it’s revealed that Kaneki was the next King, and the meaning of :Re is included in the Viz publishing.
Julien Mason it’s always a bit like that going from a black and white medium to colour, you kind of make your own interpretations of what things should look like only for it not to be the way the author saw it.
I didn’t actually know the meaning of Re was confirmed in the actual manga, or if I did know at one point I definitely forgot, I haven’t read Re since it finished around 2 years ago now? I’ll definitely be re-reading it once the box set comes out though.
PROBABLY DOES IN THE MANGA
we need a sequel outside Tokyo that's it
Fc, I am realy dumb. I watched tokyo ghoul 4 years ago or so, and just finished rewatching it, all seasons. I didn't quite understand many things in past. So I discovered myself a lot of important and essential things in the story whole and characters this time. Basically I just wasted my chance to read the manga without spoilers. Some I remember, but most of them I forgot or didn't pay attention to
does the manga has any inappropriate scenes? except the violence parts if u know what I mean 👉🏻👈🏻
The manga is rated as 18+, It does have strong themes and things that aren’t exactly appropriate for a younger audience.
Personally I read TG when I was around 16 and TG:RE when I was 19, I can say I appreciated the series more as I got older but if you wanted to read it and you’re under 18 who am I to stop you
Where can i read Tokyo ghoul manga?

I have a hard time telling witch character said what first lol, but the manga is pretty sweet.
JUST READ THE FUC- MANGA
My first initial thought was that hase was hide and that he was going to hunt down kaneki. i think im going to read the manga bc the anime was so confusing to me. anywho :)
The anime is definitely a bit confusing haha
Definitely give the manga a go if you get the time it’s really amazing
@@Viseak ok! Do you know where I can get the manga?
@@baconeggsman4172 you should still be able to pick up the box sets of Tokyo Ghoul and Re on Amazon for a decent price.
I’m not too sure of anywhere you can read the manga online at the moment though.
@@Viseak Ok thanks🙃🙂
I havent read the manga and havnt watched the anime, should I watch season one then start reading the manga? or should I just start reading the manga before i even watch either of the anime
You might aswell do both, read a bit of the manga, then watch a few eps of the anime, since although the anime as good, the soundtrack for the anime is top tier, so if u want then you can pick out some songs u like from the anime to play while listening to the manga to get a better feel for it and feel more immersed
I don’t know if I should watch the anime first or the manga first
Manga bro
I know people say the manga is better with every anime but tokyo ghoul takes bad adaptation to another level. Just read it my guy.
I dont exactly have 134 dollars lol
That’s fair enough man, there are some, other ways you could read it that I couldn’t exactly recommend.
And finding these sites are a lot harder nowadays as many have been taken down, but with enough persistence and Adblock you should be able to read the whole series for free.
Shonen jump app. 1 week trial then $3 a month
Thanks guys
The character and story building is just incomparable between the manga and the anime i honestly hated the entire anime if im honest
plate can’t blame you for that, I feel like season 1 was OK at best and at the very least brought attention to the series and got people to read the manga.
I know I probably never would’ve found the manga without it. The rest of the anime is just straight up unredeemable and paints a fantastic manga in a horrible light
@@Viseak agreed i also just dont understand why they changed the story so much in the anime it just ended up not making sense in the slightest
