How To Tint Brows At Home Tutorial | Shonagh Scott

- Today's tutorial is on how to tint your eyebrows at home. This is ideal for when you're going on holiday or just don't want to consistently fill in your brows with a pencil, pomade or powder. The tint will stain your skin and colour your vellus hairs (white soft 'peach' hair) thus making your natural brows appear fuller and create a better shape.
Remember to patch test all tints BEFORE use to prevent you having an unwanted reaction.
NOTE: You should clean your eyebrow hair before tinting to remove any oils sitting on the hairs, and you can use vaseline around your eyebrows to prevent excess staining - usually only necessary if you're going to tint for the full 10 minutes. As mentioned in the tutorial, I prefer to do it minutes at a time as my hair grabs tint really well and I don't like them dark.

If that happens again use a really good concealer and lile out your wanted eyebrow shape.( yea its a stupid tip bcs everyone may come to this idea, but if i would be ind that situation i would freak out and not think about the obvious tips)

Thanks Shonagh, I've just tinted my wife's brows for the first time using the Syoss kit. And may I say, a great job too 🙂. I purposely searched for a non-Syoss video to find practical pro tips and yours is great. It confirmed my suspicion that the manufacturer's marketers propose far too much product per application. I like how you start with a short application and another if needed.

A couple of other tutorials, I saw on brow tinting. They used either concealer or vaseline above and under the eyebrow. It keeps the tint off the skin.
This tint is so subtle you don’t have to be concerned as you’ve got time to clean up around it.

Funny story. When I decided to attempt a brow tint it was while I watched a movie. Now, in my own defense, I had a very busy day and you can imagine the horror when I awoke the next am having forgotten to remove the dye. It took 3 days to clean my skin as I'd put a glob on each brow (dark brow) the size of a band-aid. Not nice.

i have auburn hair and the tips of my brows look quite golden/become invisible in the light so I was thinking of tinting them to match the reddish brown i fill them in with. this was great! i'll def check out the products.
This is the brand I use and I really like it as it tints the skin where I have missing hair so eyebrows look fuller.

I just tried this and my brows are much darker than I’d like😬I used the same color and left it on maybe a minute and a half but they look almost DARK. I’m ashy blonde and maybe should have used a lighter tone or let it on even less time. Hoping it will fade but since we’re basically still in lockdown not sweating it too much. Just wanted to offer fair warning to other blondes. So grateful for the advice and tutorial though!! 💓
Hey Kellie, you can always wipe over them with a little bit of acetone or IPA and then wash them. It’ll help take a bit of the colour away, just be careful around your eyes. It’s definitely trial and error when it comes to finding the right tint colour for your brows, I sometimes wipe mine off after 30 seconds just so it doesn’t over-develop. Some people leaves theirs on for 5 minutes! Mine would be black! Haha.

I barely have eyebrows and I use a brown pencil and have got very good at shaping my eyebrow with just an eyebrow pencil....just still give me more tips besides the ones you’ve already

I've done this for many years using demi color (light natural brown). I'm surprised you remove it so quickly. I leave it on for 25 minutes. Lasts about a week. I also don't have a problem with it staining my skin even though I don't carefully clean it up.
25 mins for a weeks wear, wow, that’s a lot more effort. Maybe you should give this a try?
I’ve found that many hair colour tints lift the natural hair slightly and when the deposit wears off the hairs are left light which I personally would dislike for brows, you may not find that with your demi?
I tend to stick with the products designed specifically for brows. This method usually lasts two weeks on me, and for 30 seconds worth of tinting this is definitely a better option for myself. Glad to hear you’ve found a method that works for you but definitely give this tint a try since it lasts well ☺️

I've tried this brand (and others) but have struggled to find a warm toned brown for my auburn hair. The colors always come out so ashy and don't look right. Any suggestions?

I picked up the men's beard and mustache tint and haven't used it yet but am seriously thinking of it for the weekend. I am hopeful I'll get the same results as you've had here. I have little to NO hair as I'm of the generation that plucked the life out of my brows in the 80s and 90s. So, I'm left with little to nothing. The MAC pen has been a Godsend to me. I would like to have some color all the time though so I'm going to give it a go over the weekend. Love this video.

only thing I'm nervous about is if it's the wrong color 🙈 i have dark brown eyebrows.. Do ya'll think this color will work?
i too have kind of dark brown color and i used a “medium brown” to tint mine (it’s the bran just for men. i know it’s not for eyebrows specifically but i swear it works just the same!)
plus, the more you leave it on the more it darkens. so just leave it on for a while longer. hope this helps!

I have done my brows this way for the last couple years. It is really amazing! However, despite leaving it on the full amount of time (10 mins), it most certainly doesn’t last 2-4 weeks.
How long does it last for you?
My eyebrows seem to be very resistant to the colour. You wouldn’t think blond eyebrows would be. They leave it on for like 10 minutes

omg the color turned like orange brown is there any way to fix this or neutralize it? 😭
You can removing it with some acetone (nail polish remover) or IPA (Isopropanol Alcohol) which will take it off the skin at least. In regards to the colour on your hair, you can use a coloured brow gel over it to help neutral it each day but just keep washing them and it’ll eventually fade.

It depends on how vigorously you wash your face and which products you use as this can affect the longevity of the dye. I find it lasts on the skin for about 1 week and on the hair for about 4 weeks.

It depends on many factors, how often you wash face, which products you are using your skin, applying SPF, etc… everything will have an affect on how long it lasts. I usually find two weeks on myself. Some people have theirs done every 3-6 weeks.
After 10 min what are you wiping it with? U said dump cotton but water are not recommended for 24 hours
You have to remove it with water. Nothing else, just warm water.

Hi Shonagh, my eyebrows are bushy at the front but they stopped growing at the tail, I have hair it’s just really sparse. Can I still tint my eyebrows ?
Hi Cithaly, I would recommend creating an ombré effect with your tint - so place your tint across the brow but avoid the front where it’s bushy. However, don’t create a straight line where it meets the bushy brow, soften it slightly by blurring the line where it stops with a cotton bud.
Then you will have a darker tint on the areas that are lacking hairs, and it’ll work as a guide for filling them in with either a pen or pencil. I have loads of tutorials on how to fill them in;

I used this product yesterday, but I left it on too long lol so now my eyebrows look darkest brown. The weird thing is it didn’t stain my skin. It only made my eyebrow hair dark. My eyebrows are thin and I now can’t use an eyebrow pencil to make them thicker because they won’t match. And if I bought an eyebrow pencil to match I would look angry and hideous 😾 I guess I’ll be wearing a hat that covers my eyebrows for a month 😂
Don’t panic, they will lighter super quick! Tried a bit of IPA or acetone on them just make sure not to get in the eyes! It will help lift a bit of the colour.

May I ask why you did the tinting twice and not in one go?
My brow hairs take very quickly and I like them to be very natural so I prefer to tint them in short bursts - if I tinted them too long I’d regret the outcome! Haha… so sometimes it’s better to do two rounds so you can monitor how dark they go.

You can specially get ones that cover grey hair - which white is classed as, as it’s lacking pigment.

I bleached my eyebrows not long ago, and it looked really bad so I bought all the products used in this video to dye them back, but they turned out wayyyy too dark does anyone know how to lighten them up???
Bleached hair will always grab really quick! Just keep washing them, it shouldn’t take long for the colour to start to lift. Try clarifying shampoos such as Head & Shoulders, it’ll pull the colour out quicker.

How often do you tint your eyebrows?
Very rarely as I usually forget to do them - maybe 4 times a year? They only last about 2 weeks at a time but I love it when I've done it - I just sporadically do it throughout the year. If I had very light brow hairs naturally then I'd do it religiously.

Yes but you shouldn't really need to do it more than fortnightly. If you're finding that it's not staying put for long try either a slightly darker shade or try an alternative brand.

You can apply Vaseline on the skin you don’t want to tint.
