I just moved back to Japan, switched my US license and passed the test on the first try, from what I hear, a miracle. Your driving and especially your "How to pump your own gas" videos have been hugely helpful. Parking has been a hilarious struggle, 30 years of backing up in the US makes the right sided drive location and depth perception chotto off. I appreciate what you do Daddy T...
Thank you so much, i have only driven in the US, never drove on the right side before, and i am going to Japan next week. This video helps so much, thank you :)
@@DaddyTJapan i was driving in wakayama today trying to get to the kitayama log ride and i aborted. Road was way to narrow and rainy. Anyways, any idea why i put destination in car nav and it said 3 hrs and my phone google maps said 1.5 hrs. Same address. That has happened a few times.
I also believe that . Lots of advantages . When I first started driving out here I was pulling in headlights first . That put me in really bad situations where I almost hit cars trying to get out ! Never again though .
After you made that legal U-turn, what is those green little people looking like crossing the street? Is that a crosswalk sign? If so, why don’t they have lines on the ground?
I think I explained it in the video . There’s isn’t enough space to pull in between two cars . Also it’s easier to back in and when you eventually pull out you have a full range of vision . This cutting down on accidents . Also everyone in Japan backs in so if you pull in your drivers side door will be on the same side as their door increasing the likeliness of door knocks in an already tight space . Is it required ? No , it’s best practice in Japan and highly encouraged and offers many benefits .
Except on the Shin Tomei and Tohoku Expressway because I've done it personally. They can go up to 120km/h . Again, it depends on the sign. Thanks for the comment!
@@DaddyTJapan Is the right of way on the left in Japan? By that i mean, do you give way to the vehicles coming from the left instead of the right like in Europe?
I'll be driving in Japan for the first time this summer. Your video helped boost my confidence!
Awesome . Don’t forget to pass it along !

You might have to choose “ include tolls “ on you car navigation . I have to do that sometimes on mine if I accidentally choose not to go on tolls .
@@DaddyTJapan thx. What area do you live?
Thanks so much for doing this - so helpful!
You’re very welcome .
Cool street signs! I too always back in for similar reasons its the best way to park my opinion.

No problem 👍
Great video. Here on Maui, da locals always back up. 😅
Thank you . Love Maui btw . Need to go back
Surely they are driving 'slowly' in the left lane, because they drive on the left, no? The overtaking lane would be on the right ?

Thanks for the videos. why all ppl in Japan do switch off their car engine on the traffic light is red?
They don’t do it manually it’s automatic in some cars like Mazdas , they do that to “ save gas “ because the engine is idle .
Very nice car 👍
Thank you 👍
Nice video man! What car you drive by the way?
I have two a S and an X
I plan on occasionally renting a car to go to ikea and costco when I get to Japan, so this was very helpful. Thanks!
Thank you very much . Many more helpful videos coming !
This was super helpful. I am afraid to drive in Japan. But I think it's a good idea to get a license.
Where is the place from 12:15 to 12:32? What's it called? I really need to know, thanks! 🙏

So, if I have an Dutch driving lincense, do I need to have an Japanese driving license?
Yes you need a Japanese license to drive on the roads . Might be able to get by with an international license if you’re just visiting , I’m not sure.
i love your car , what do you do for a living ? 😅
I hustle and make videos . Help me out by subscribing , thanks !
Why back in. Are you required to

The speed limit in Japan is 100 in expressway 60 in ordinary roads
Except on the Shin Tomei and Tohoku Expressway because I've done it personally. They can go up to 120km/h

@@oyveyshalom hi.yes Vehicles coming towards you wanting to make a left , have the right of way .
Depends on the type of vehicle.
@@phinehoshi speed limits apply to all motor vehicles. Thanks !
i think if in blue it is pedestrian not a school sign
Some prefectures it’s yellow , some blue . Same rules apply. Thanks !
The reason Japan drives on the left is that the British made the railway back then.
10:57 Plus i often say that Japan has the craziest traffic lights
Whats crazy about that..?
