  • My favorite place in Langun Cave.
I was like on the other planet. How wonderful, isn't it?
Experience the once-in-a-lifetime tour in one of the biggest caves in Asia. It was an honor to be invited to join the epic adventure in Langun-Gobingob Cave of Calbiga Samar.

    HISTORY
Discovered in the year 1987 by the European Cave Explorer led by Guido Rossi, a geologist from Italy who was also the first to explore the most dangerous cave in Sagada of the Mountain Province. After years when the discovery was published, the cave suffered from human abuse. Some locals were involved in looting important parts of the cave-like stalactites and stalagmites and sold them to a Taiwanese for only 3-6 pesos per kilo. Buti nalang hindi naubos. It was only stopped when the RA9072 was passed. A Republic Act that protects the caves in the Philippines. It preserves and prohibits from anyone taking any parts of the caves. Thanks to the law.
    TOURIST SPOT
Today, Calbiga Cave is now one of the best tourist destinations in Samar. Numerous visitors including local, national, and even international have been enjoying the place. This cave is super huge and beautiful. But this is one of the most challenging places to explore with. The cave system is divided into three main parts, the Gobingob upper, the Langun, and the Lower Langun.
    EXPLORATION
Exploring all of its parts takes up to 3 days and two nights. Visitors will have to spend nights under the cave. One of the most difficult routes is the Gobingod Upper. They called it the Empierno or hell. Unlike with other junctions, the terrain of this route is super challenging. Visitors will have to climb up and down through the mountain of Stalagmites for 4-6 hours inside the cave while enjoying its view. You will spend one night at the first campsite which is in the middle of the cave after exploring the Upper Gobingob. The 2nd night is at the exit of Langun. But before reaching the 2nd campsite, you will have to pass through a 50 meters vertical passage using a rope going down. Yung iba hindi kinakaya dito. But after this part, chill chill nalang. You'll see the football field on this part and the giant chandeliers that reach through the ground. My most favorite parts are the Langun exit or the 2nd campsite. Seems like a reward for all the hardships that you've been through. Pakasarap ng feeling dito. You should try.
    HOW TO GET THERE?
My recommendation is to tap with Cave Master Joni Abesamis Bonifacio. No other in Samar that you can trust when it comes to extreme adventure. He offers the complete package. He has all the experience and the gear and equipment. Check out this website www.trexplore.ph for more info or directly message him at his FB account.

THE PH GOVERNMENT MUST TAKE OVER THIS CAVE AND PUT A LED-LIGHTING SYSTEM INSIDE, AND EVEN ACCOMMODATION INSIDE AND OUTSIDE TO PROTECT THE CAVERS WHO EXPLORE OVERNIGHT, RESCUE TEAM MUST ALSO BE READY AT HAND... MORE EXPLORATION MUST BE MADE EVEN USING GROUND PENETRATING RADAR TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THE SIDES OF THE CAVE SYSTEM THAT IT MAY HAVE A THIN LAYER AND OTHER CAVERN SYSTEMS ADJACENT
