Hello! We're Caroline and Pete, and in 2021, after 10 years living in Texas, we sold up and moved back home to the UK to live full time on a 60ft narrowboat with our 3 dogs! Join us in our day to day life as we continuously cruise the canals of the UK. All of the ups, and the downs and everything in between!

Glad you enjoyed it! It was the conventional way of watching your new home get built, but ten guys at Russell Narrowboats made it work for us from start to finish! Their communication was excellent, and we didn’t even know of a problem until they had already found a solution! The first moment we stepped on her, 2 weeks before launch, as it really was a ‘have we done the right thing’ moment! And launch day was a mixture of immense excitement but also a huge amount of nervousness about it all! Putting in to practice everything we had binge watched on narrowboat vlogs 😂

We really couldn’t believe how many views and subscribers the boat tour got Ann!! It was a wonderful surprise for our very first proper video! You’re right, that light shining in the background was very annoying when we checked it back, and we know to film in good daylight for the next videos! It’s really weird but, we watched all your vlogs on CZcams last night. We are fans of Foxes Afloat. We are saving for our own narrowboat. We had thought Silver Fox was pretty much along the lines of what we will be looking for in ours, until we seen the finish, the quality and layout of yours. Today we decided, out of the blue, to drive to a canal side place we go to from time-to-time: Thrupp! What do we see right away? “One Day More” looking fantastic. We passed Caroline walking the 3 dogs as we crossed the swing bridge. Wanted to say hello but didn’t want to annoy you!
Oh I wish you had said hello!!! Thrupp was one of the places we came before we had a boat, and now we can’t believe we are actually here with ours! We’ve had so many lovely chats with people admiring the boat whilst we have been here. Bickerstaffe was one of the first companies we contacted as we loved the layout and look of Silver Fox and Morning Star on Narrowboat Life Unlocked, but the wait list was many months, which just didn’t fit with our timeline to move back. We are so happy with how Russell Narrowboats took all of our favourite parts of those boats, and a few little extras that we added, to make it just perfect for us! Make sure you say hi if you see us again!! 😊

Carrying the cabinetry finish to the under-gunnel walls was an inspired choice - it really helps make the space flow & seem bigger. Is neither one of you a design professional? Because I'm thinking you may have missed your calling if not! What's even more amazing is you pulled all this off so successfully while all the way down here. (I am just up I-45 from your former neighborhood, in The Woodlands.) Bravo to you both, you hit it out of the park!

We just saw it on that one boat on the internet, after seeing the shop awning in a colour we liked. Now the same builder, Russell Narrowboats, has done about 4 more boats since ours in the same colour at the request of the clients! We said it should be called Russell Blue! 😊

Not yet! But I have always meant to! I will get that done soon as we are often asked. Our boat builder came up with a fold out solution that maintains the full storage space under the bed. We were their first cross over bed and now it’s a common request for their boats! Keep the questions coming. We are happy to answer! 😊
Really look forward to seeing how the bed works - we need access on both sides of the bed so are also looking at a “narrow” double running length wise rather than amidship. Sent an enquiry to Russel boats last week but am yet to hear back from them……..@@onedaymoreaboard

Such lovely words, and so, so true! We really stepped out of our comfort zone putting ourselves out there as presenters! And the steep learning curve involved in editing the videos has been a challenge, but it’s only going to get better right?! I watched one of CZcams’s top creators talking about, and showing, his very first video that he uploaded and his advice was to just do it and don’t analyse yourself! And I know our video editing skills will get better with time for sure! We are learning by our mistakes (like the low audio volume!). Thanks so much for joining us on our exciting journey 😊

I have so many questions!! We are considering moving (back for my husband who is British) to the UK after we retire in a year or so. I’m American. We’ve spent our whole married lives in the USA (currently in CO). Anyway…why a boat instead of a cottage/house/flat? How was it quarantining/moving the pups? There are many things yet to be discovered for us like… we’ve never seen a NB in person just watched hundreds of hours of Vlogs. We are taking our first NB holiday next month out of Sawley to test the waters (no pun intended). Great Vlog!
Thanks so much Jayne! Ask away, as that’s how we felt when we were doing all of our research. We had SO many questions! We decided on a boat as we just wanted more of an adventure really, and to see all of the beautiful UK countryside that we have missed while living overseas. You get such a different perspective from the waterways. We are loving the slower pace of life too. Yes, we have challenges, but they are different challenges, and not all about being on time and sticking to a schedule! We always say we have a very vague plan, and that’s about as good as it gets for knowing where we will be and when! We didn’t want to get wrapped up in another mortgage, and loving that we simplified our lives by drastically downsizing and getting rid of so much stuff that we were just moving around with us from house to house! We put the dogs into the very capable hands of a pet transportation company. Not the cheapest way to do it, but with Covid and three dogs, and a go the potential problems we decided to pay someone else to sort it out that was far more knowledgable about the process than us. And it all worked out perfectly, and with the right vaccines they didn’t have to quarantine at all. Thanks to Covid ruining our plans of trying before buy, we didn’t get to test this life out before we jumped right in. But we honestly have no regrets at all!! 😊

We’ve just returned from a week on the Shroppie and can’t wait for our own boat to take shape. 1. Do you manage okay with just the two solar panels when off grid? E.g. tv, kettle, oven, lights etc
2. Would you advise to have additional panels for continuous cruising?
3. What size water tank did you choose?

Hi Dave, great comments…. Let us try to answer. Our boat builder was Russell Narrowboats in Burton on Trent. 1) We do manage with two solar panels (500w total), however, we use gas for our oven and hob and boil water on the gas hob. We upgraded our batteries a year ago and can now run the immersion, microwave etc.. without running the engine but prefer to use our Ebersbacher for heating water if we’re not cruising (which uses the engine heat). 2) if we were starting again we would probably install more solar and start with a lithium battery setup rather than lead acid. 3) our water tank is 110 gals. Hope that helps. Please don’t hesitate to ask if we’ve missed anything 👍😊
Your story & videos are wonderful!! Quick question…coming from Texas …with lots of mosquitoes …why don’t Natrowboat builders in the UK put screens over the windows to keep the bugs out …esp at night as I would assume they get attracted to the lights etc!! thx
That’s a good question! The mosquito problem isn’t at all as bad here in the UK as it was when we lived in Texas, where it was not pleasant to sit out, and we would have foggers round when it was really bad. I have seen a few boats with screens on their hatches and it’s something we are contemplating fitting before this next summer! Thanks for watching 😊

Yes, filmed on an iPhone 11. Some of the additional video included was sent to us by the boat builder, and not sure what they used 👍
I’m 6’2” tall. What’s the height inside the boat?
Our head height at the centre is 6’ 9” which is on the higher side for narrowboat headroom 👍
Loving the vlogs very much, but please, please either speak up or invest in a better microphone(s) as we can barely hear you speak. And no, we are not at all deaf 😂 Your wee Westie's all remind us our our dear departed Angus (Gus-Gus), he was our heart. Miss him so very much. We have an external microphone that we used, and the audio levels seemed fine when we listened within in the editing app, but it all messed up when it was uploaded to CZcams for some reason. It’s been a steep learning curve for us, but we will get there! Thanks for sticking with us, and we love that we can bring you memories of your westie ❤️

This was at the start of our vlogging journey, using not great editing software. Things have improved since then thankfully, and we’ve got far more to grips with sound levels. 😊
