  • Everyone knows what the UNSC was like when they were fighting the Covenant during the original Halo games, and now after into Halo Infinite and beyond, but in today's Halo Lore video we look at what the UNSC and Humanity was like BEFORE the Covenant invaded. All that and more today!

      Also there were many conflicting interest in the outer and inner worlds. Some times coming to Nuclear bombardment. Millions died in the conflicting wars. It's a history not talked about. It's glossed over because of the worsening of the Covenant war. Most outer space went silent and hoped to survive after the last remnants of the UNSC. Entire cities and or colonies were impacted with the war of man. We were broken beyond anything then the scourge of the Covenant hit. After countless glassing and complete destruction did we repurposed not only our fleets yet our media, and special operations.

    Little known fact: there were 2 different events that caused the Covenant to wage war on humanity. The first one was repeatedly getting calls informing them that the extended warranty on the wraiths where about to expire. The second one was recieving a transmission of Star Wars Holiday Special.

      No convential reason has been presented as of yet. A gravity affected area in that region hasn't been reported either. Hence the abnormality of traveling to this particular colony is still a mystery. Halo Canon covers this topic upon Catalog's entries within a Halo forum in a QnA format. @Marco Moreno the other colonies may have been further out overall distance but could have formed a chain of closer together worlds, Harvest on the other hand might have been closer relative to earth but had no other nearby occupied planets so travel time was longer without any possible other destinations.

    • @marco117sw
      @marco117sw Před 2 lety

      @@thanqualthehighseer
      Highly doubtful. All distances mentioned are relative to Earth and the Sol System. 23 Librae System (Madrigal) is about 86 ly from Earth while Epsilon Indi (Harvest) is a mere 12. Epsilon Eridani (Reach) is only 11. So technically, the Covenant were already at Earth's doorstep way before Reach was lost. Even if we're referring to star clusters, said regions are on average 10 - 30 ly across for them to be considered a cluster. Harvest, Reach and Earth are relatively close enough to be considered in the same cluster. However, this is not the case either since Earth is not in a globular cluster but rather a Local Interstellar Cloud (LIC), a.k.a. Local Fluff. So unfortunately this is still considered a major discrepancy. At best it's an abnormality. It's not too farfetched to believe some Forerunner technology is affecting this region of space. Or something else entirely that isn't Forerunner. Harvest was used by the Forerunners as a waystation to a shield world and as a research and containment facility. What sort of waystation, as Halo Canon covered, is unknown. Perhaps the facility wasn't entirely for Etran Harborage (SW 0459), a.k.a. Trove, and was instead for something entirely different that is affecting this region of space and producing the abnormal effects surrounding Harvest. Considering it was used for research and containment, it may have held an alternative or primary purpose that led to another Shield World not yet discovered. Trove was simply a secondary location found by both Covenant and UNSC forces.

    Harvest's founding makes a bit more sense when you consider priorities, practicality, and how circumstances can change them. In the early days, terraforming wasn't nearly as practical, so using FTL travel to focus on garden worlds is a better idea, even if it's an extra long journey like Harvest. Eventually, the time and distance creates a bottleneck that causes a shift to terraforming tech over locating more garden worlds.

    There are some great insights into civilian life in the Battle Born books (makes sense, as they're about teenagers living normally on Meridian until the Covenant invade). We see some interesting trends like how people at raves would put on crazy covenant-inspired makeup looks, which is a WILD detail.
    In Legacy of Onyx we also see life in a scientific community (again for a teenager), but it's an exceptional case because the scientific community there is the first or largest-scale example of a multi-species effort that includes humans. You have humans, Sangheili, Unggoy, Huragok and maybe a couple of others (I can't really remember) all working and living together.
    There are other examples of multi-species communities including humans in books like Renegades/Smoke and Shadow, but that's more on the black market/criminal underworld side of things.
    And all this is during or after the war, so it may not even be properly relevant!

At first the Covenant assumed the symbology meant that all the humans carried Forerunner artefacts, and discovering that humans, not the Prophet's were the designated heirs of the Forerunners drove them into a rage.

    As much as I love Halo and other space opera series of this sort, I've always questioned the plausibility of governing entities like the UNSC. Having one giant one-galaxy government that is supposed to represent all the planets in Terran space feels like it'd be impossible to sustain realistically, since in a more realistic setting, individual worlds would also have individual nations on those worlds, and even below that, individual states, provinces, counties, etc.
    If there's anything real-world politics taught us it's that us humans really hate one-world governments, so imho the existence of the Innies in pre-Covenant War humanity absolutely makes sense. I have always assumed the sudden contact with the Covenant sort of led all of the human worlds to work together out of necessity, which had the side effect of helping keep the UNSC cohesive as a largely singular entity.

    There's a scene from Halo: Reach where local farmers stored UNSC weapons and rations and Jun says, "so basically anything the UNSC considers contraband."
    Okay, I could understand certain military weapons being contraband but why would emergency food be contraband also? Especially during a war where aliens are glassing worlds and the likelihood of being cut off from the rest of humanity indefinitely is a real possibility/probability?
    The answer is because such supplies give "insurrectionists" the ability to rebel against UEG/UNSC authority.

Yes, in game canon the Prophets basically issue a genocidal fatwah against the entire species, but in truth it would be smarter for the Covenant to exploit the division amongst humanity, drawing the impoverished Outer Colonies into the flock. I want a Halo story that focuses on the post war politics of earth. I think we would see nation states, who probably make up the backbone of the UEG start to question the UEG and UNSC effectiveness. Plus Earth has been attacked 5 times so far in halo lore. Battle for Earth, Rio incident, New Phoenix incident, Cortana’s take over, and Cortana’s attack on Australia in halo infinite. All these could spark a call from nation states to return ultimate authority to them. The tension would be between those who advocate nation state supremacy over a globalist one.
