    Ball fitting just rotates on a film of lubricant in a hole with a slight clearance fit. Keep it clean and lubed.

      07 Classic 2500HD. It does have taller tires, a newer hitch which I calculate to be 1-2" higher than stock. That said I'm not sure if the 2500 sits higher than the 1500 or not.

      @@ThriftyGarage hitch height to top of high receiver is 20". But 6x12 utility trailer level, the bottom of coupler is 13 to 14 inches. 5 inch drop would still have the tongue a little high. 🤷‍♂️ I'll try it out and see if it hits

    I love it and I'm probably getting one since I've got this new multipro tailgate thing GMC has decided to force on us but I do have a couple questions. First, has anyone bought one of these and found a way to lock the pins in place so they can't be stolen? Second, if they can't be locked in place does B&W sell extras pins? I'd never hit the road without an extra set of locking pins and cotter pins with this thing. I have had entire hitches, balls, trailer spare tires, and carbon fiber drift boat oars stolen. I live in NY. Need I say more.

    • @ThriftyGarage
      @ThriftyGarage Před 3 lety

      I believe B&W has a special hitch for the multipro tailgate that has a slight angle taken out of the top to prevent contact. I do think there are locking pins available.

    The fold and stow portion can be removed when on the receiver. Look at the sliding rail near the top and you will notice 2 notches. That’s where is comes out in the stowed position. Just bought mine today and did it from both hole positions on the shank. On some receivers you can remove and some you can’t. I have a 2019 Ram 1500 new body style. If you can remove it you need to contact B&W and they will send you a anti theft plate to prevent it from being removed if left attached or you can just remove the sliding portion with the balls when not using. I’m storing mine in the truck when not using it. Read the manual it’s all there.

    I’ve got a dumb question… my weigh safe draw bar for my 6” drop actually measures 9”. Is B&W made the same due to how the “ball mount” is attached to draw bar?

    • @ThriftyGarage
      @ThriftyGarage Před rokem

      Drop or rise is measured off the top of the receiver tube to the base of the ball mount.

    What hitch do you like better weightsafe or this one

    • @ThriftyGarage
      @ThriftyGarage Před 4 lety

      Honestly, depends on your intended use. B&W is more convenient to switch ball size as well as turn over. Weigh safe gives you the tongue weight but still has the other functions, just a little more work.

  • @2015_Rubicnn
    @2015_Rubicnn Před 3 lety +1

    Only issue I have with this hitch, but a lot of the square tubing from other manufacturers, is they fit so sloppy into the frame receiver. You have to use a roadmaster u clamp or other device to take the slop out. I wish the shank piece that slides into the trucks receiver was machined for a more precision fit, but I understand it comes down to the cost of manufacturing.

  • @RH-qk5lt

    Yes they're really nice. But after 5 years and frequently spraying silicone lubricant and other WD-40 products on the pins, they're now completely unable to remove them. I'm not sure what else I could have done to prevent this.

    • @tylerriddle4627
      @tylerriddle4627 Před 3 lety +2

      Wd-40 isn’t a rust inhibitor it’s about worthless as a rust prevention good ol marine grease is best

    • @RH-qk5lt
      @RH-qk5lt Před 3 lety

      @@tylerriddle4627 Grease smeared all over the pins would be best. But you're wrong about WD40. It absolutely is a rust inhibitor. WD....water displacement. It's not a miracle, silicone spray would probably be better. But WD40 would also be better than what I did, which was nothing. That was my point in the OP.
