The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

Outstanding!! Perfection in blending vocals with acting…somewhere between Pookie Adams and Sally Bowles. There will never be another LIZA!!! I love her like family. ♥️💕♥️
This is breathtaking.
What a dish, what a doll, what a dame! Best child star of a star ever.
The mic (called a boom in those days) was most likely above her and out of camera range-This is a huge theatre and you have to have sound equipment.
OUR PRECIOUS LIZA MINNELLI !!!
fantastic artist
My first time ever hearing that song. What a superb performance.
Me as well. So moving and sad... Perfectly performed. 💖
What A GREAT ! Acting /Singing !!!! Performance !!👍👍👍👍SUPERB ??!!!!👍
This was just on the Ed Sullivan Show on METV on 2/20/22. What a voice!
Wow--hadn't ever seen this LiZa clip...thanks for sharing!
Love her ❤
Such a nice voice!
Oh Liza, why didn't I meet you years ago.
Oh how we would have danced. 😢💃🕺
Wow and with no mic. Her voice was so powerful!
They had overhead mics, and possibly at the floor, but the theater is large and probably resonant.
OMG brought tears to my eyes
She brought tears to my eyes ,so intense!
Her mom Judy lives in her❤️❤️
Virtually all singers on TV until the mid 1970's were presented in close-up when they sang. You really felt you were watching a concert performance, live, not taped. Of course most Sullivan performances were "live", and virtually never lip synced, so you actually were present during a concert. Minnelli benefited greatly from this technique, especially during this song.
If there was dancing, it was sung to a playback. You can tell by watching their breathing, and if they smile on impossible vowels. Here, one sees that Liza has not perfected her make-up yet, you can see all the freckles she has. In other words, too close-up.
such a pretty face and a powerful voice 😍 her dress reminded me of halston too
Cause !!! ITS HALSTON ! BABY !!!👍
Just ! A PERFECT ! SUPERB👍 I ACTING ! SINGING ! Performance !!!!!👍👍 BRAVISSIMA LIZA MINNELLI ! At HER VOCAL BEST !!!;;; 💕💕💕💕
❤️
class act
So what happened to Liza between 1969 and 1970?? She totally transformed as a singer. So much more confident and in control. Amazing.
Great singer. I thought she sounded a lot like her mother in this song.
I thought so too.
That's how she learned to sing, naturally, but not trained, unfortunately.
She really was unique albeit being
the daughter of Judy Garland.
What a perfect song for her, already mature, a real vocal prodigy. The sad thing is, she started out as her mother was a mature singer already, she didn't start out with the early training and discipline her mother got from Roger Edens. Her instrument has such beautiful color.
Sally Bowles is clearly warming up.
This was one of the first Halston designs she would wear ..
HALSTON made some bad career decisions that took him out of top fashion designer! He lost it once he signed with the JCPenney Co.
The dress looks like a Halston. Probably not, but one can see how she was drawn to his designs. She looks great here, before being frozen into Sally Bowles.
Kelly Rowland ressemblance
@TheMaidofMiddleEarth there’s something though
