    The Sorted Food Mystery Nights were always fun. It seemed like that was when the guys let their guard down the most and it felt like more of a hangout with the mates. I really like this style as well. Anything that feels like a "fly on the wall" perspective is a blast. Sorta feels like it's getting back to basics.

    I LOVE the "search by ingredient" function - it suits how I cook and shop so much better, and addresses the real problem I tend to have which is "I need to get rid of x before it goes off." I'm wondering if you can expand it for more than 1 ingredient. Also a video on recipe substitutions - either a straightforward one with Ben explaining it or a challenge of some kind

    • @kingstonart
      @kingstonart Před 7 měsíci

      Second the idea of expanding the ingredient list. It's up to 5 now but my fridge finds that number hilarious.
      Watching 'expiry' dates at grocery stores tells you when they're going on 50% off and poof! the fridge is stuffed full.
      How about being able to keep a list somewhere on the app of 100 ingredients 🙄

    Had to pause this at the part talking about the advert content on your recent US trip. I don't know about other viewers but for me it is very clear in your content that you are taking care in what/who you work with. It is also very impressive how well it is integrated in a way that works for whatever video. If it needs to be up front and clear it is and it is clearly communicated. If it can sit in the background as an acknowledged product placement it is. While this is not my expertise in life if asked your channel would genuinely be an example I would hold up of how this can be done well.

    @casadega2010 Před rokem +22

    IF on your meal packs instructions you could also give storage instructions, like how to freeze or how to refrigerate or what's the best way to store and reheat that'd be great. I'd even love a whole video on reheating or easy to reheat meals. My partner has some really expansive food issues so I'm usually cooking for myself and taking it to work with me or meal prepping...but I don't want to "meal prep" meal prep...I just want to have leisure time to ENJOY cooking so that when I'm hungry I can reheat easily...or have good dishes that are cold (I enjoy some cole-slaws...not others..heck, a deep dive into types of coleslaw would be amazing).
    I know that y'all are British and generally make things based on British rules, sizing, etc. and that the Sidekick app does have a place for user comments and changes and suggestions...but if there's a way to get an US/Aussie/Canadian/Other English Speaking So you don't have to translate but use theri common measurements...oh man that's a lot of work isn't it? never mind....but Is there a way to really push the social aspects of the app? Or maybe in addition to the "cheats" have a like...section like "if your food comes in different portions, here's what I did with the extra to save on waste! Or this amount is basically the same as this kind in the UK!" I did live in the UK for almost a decade before returning stateside, so have had to do a lot of back and forth and conversions and changes to my cooking...the interesting thing is how hard it is to stick with one "style" once you're in a place where all the packaging, measuring equipment, recipes, people, etc. are not geared towards that...Sorry for all my stream of conscious thought. I'm really enjoying Sidekick a lot. Thanks for all your hard work!
    Also: Idea ot incorporate AI: for people with food preferences or allergies, connect AI to the sidekick app in such a way that you can pick a recipe pack that might say, have cucumber (my nemesis) in it and instead of chucking the whole recipe, find a way to alter or substitute that still gives a great dish! Especially for those of us who still aren't completely comfortable in the kitchen no matter how hard we try or how long we spend there.
    OK, I'm really done now...probably.

      Not sure if it's to your taste, but one cold dish I used to make for myself and eat multiple times from was a cous cous salad. I made it with tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, you can add peppers if you like them (I don't), lots of lemon, season to taste. But I'm sure other veggies are doable too! It worked great because a lot of juices come out of tomatoes etc when you leave them in the fridge, so it just keeps flavoring the cous cous. Great for easy summer meals!

    I didn't think of it during the stream, but actually you could do a thing on how to handle basic common ingredients and get the most from them.
    For example, how to prep and use an onion. It seems obvious, it's an onion, but there are things I have learned from other videos that have helped me make better food by treating the onion differently.
    Different ways of prepping and cooking staple ingredients can help us normals be more flexible on how we cook.

    Actually - I would say that a lot of the Indian food that is available in the UK was developed in the UK by the Indian diaspora, and that the food you get in India is quite different, although you'll find a lot of the same dishes here now. And of course, there are always strong similarities, but Indian food here is just a completely different experience to anywhere outside of India. And you're totally right - the different regional cuisines here are absolutely incredible. I really hope you come and do a tour of India.

    In terms of winter camping, you can do most of the cleaning with just snow and ice, it takes the place of a scrubby pad because of how abrasive it is, which means you can use a moist towelette woth disinfectant to finish the cleaning. It's a great method that requires no heat only a little water to mix into the cloth for disinfecting and let's you do multiple dishes with one cloth.

    One thing i would really like in regards to more information about spices would be grouping them- which spices are similar and what makes them different, which spices go together- like the basic spices for different cuisines.

      Oh! And maybe an axis square to help define them. I’m not sure what the axes would be. Grassy, earthy, spicy, pungent.
      Then have a recipe that shows off that spice, so we can experience it.

    I got a real laugh out of this episode. It is genetically impossible for Barry not to talk even in behind the camera. lol .
    Love this show. Maybe not a better cook, but a happier one.

    Today I learned about starch-water and creme fresh. I would like to see a series where Ben gives chef knowledge that normals may not know. Stuff that is first-year chef student stuff, but not home cook stuff. Why do we need to let dough rest? Does ice water “revive” fruit? When do you cross over from “seasoned well” to “salty”?

    Fantastic idea! Sorry I missed it live.
    Idea: Kitchen catastrophes and how to work around them. For instance, I currently have no working oven, only one small hob out of 4, crock pots, and microwave. Getting dinner for 4 on the table in under 2 hours is a challenge. I have to decide how to cook everything in a way I've never done before, every meal, because even if half my kitchen isn't working, the kids need balanced nutritious meals.

    I'd like to see you guys do a hop over the North Sea and do some Scandinavian food; it's "local" like your Alps trip and the cuisine is really different from the normal English/French/Italian/American faire you usually have. It's a lot more accessible for you guys than me in Australia and I'd be able to see more things than my family's traditional smørrebrød and æbleskiver at Christmas.

    Come to Australia, the Mornington Peninsula to be exact, Ben would LOVE the winery i work at called Montalto. We have the oldest kitchen gardens in vuctoria and base our menus around our fresh produce from the estate. ❤ if you come lunch is on me x

    You know what I would love to see in sidekick? A sidenote on each recipe on how to achieve great taste in that particular recipe without adding salt. A salt substitution if you will. My blood pressure and my tastebuds would worship you forever if you could find a way to make all those tasty meals without salt and still full of flavor despite that fact.
