Today, there was a group of kids smoking weed on the fucking train. A dude with a needle hanging out of his arm nodding out at 7 am in front of little kids, tons of homeless including mothers with children with a blanket draped over them on the subway bench (clearly we’re migrants), people jumping the turnstiles in front of security and cops, kids fighting…there’s no authority, no supervision..a total free for all.
Was that 116th and Lexington? Cause it's like that everyday over there.

It so sad to see the NYC subway in such a horrific state. I'm a native New Yorker (but I live out of state). When I lived in Manhattan (early 2000s), everyone took the subway. Also, riding the subway was like attending a fashion show at that time. There were so many fashionable people, wearing all different types of outfits. Yes, there were a few homeless, but most left people alone (and they certainly did not sleep on trains). The trains were too crowded and packed with riders.

Those homeless people, especially the last guy on the platform, reminds me of pictures I've seen of the untouchables in India, which, I suppose are the same in our society. It's very sad.

New York City has been using the subways for homeless shelters and mental institutions for decades. The only way to change this is to raise property taxes in New York to the levels found in New Jersey and on Long Island. That would triple the taxes on a typical house to about 15-20,000 a year. The problem is, that the city would probably misuse the revenue.
