- Sharing my long road to this student loan debt journey, as a non-traditional vet student who's done 8 years of university so far, and am not done yet!
As long as your fiancé knows about the debt and that you already will have house sized student loans it will be all good. I’ve seen folks with that sized debt and their monthly payments are about $1, 200-$1,500 depending on the interest rates. And that’s the minimum monthly payment. I’m glad you have a good attitude about it because I was super depressed about my $62,000. When I started out I played “beat the interest” when my interest was around $400 a month. I made a plan to make the interest each month from a side hustle. It took me a long time to pay off because I have kids and they really take a bite out of a budget. I worked 2 jobs to get out of debt. I know it can be done with maximum effort. Best of luck to you.
If you want to know the timeline it took me 6 years to get out of $62,000. The interest rate was like quicksand. I would make a spreadsheet of all your loans and interest rates so you can make a plan. Tackle the high interest ones first. Since you are 30 that would be anything 5% or over. When I was in the bulk of my debt payoff I was in my 40’s. So my high interest was 4% or higher. It’s based off the money guy show and the interest vs retirement savings to calculate debt interest by age. 👍🏽
