    This Video Topic:
    I picked up some Nosler 55 grain Varmint bullets for 8 cents apiece. These bullets are "Pulled" from a previous loading from the manufacturer and are sold at a deep discount because they cannot be re-used by the manufacturer. So we are testing to see if they are accurate enough for hunting accuracy.

    I'm getting short of breath just looking at all that snow in those hills! By double-fire, do you mean slam-fire? It happens once in awhile with soft-cupped primers in guns with free-floating firing pins. I hope those bullets are accurate. 'Chuck season is right around the corner! Happy New Year! Thanks for sharing, Dave!

      No it is a true double fire. It happens when your trigger pull or grip discipline is too loose and a fast trigger reset runs into your relaxed finger. The remedy is too have better trigger pull and hold management. My bad.

    I picked up some pulled freedom seeds from A.R. that had heavy pull marks... I ran them thru a Lee sizing die and tighten up the groups and lowered the ES on the velocity.

    Dave. Another good and interesting video. I am going to try my hand at reloading, so your videos will become more important to me as I get at it. I will initially be looking at handgun rounds, .357 and .44 Mags. So, we will see how that goes. Take care and have a Happy New Year!

      Congratulations Bobcat. In many ways reloading for handguns is more difficult and exacting than reloading for rifle cartridges.

      @@davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009 Thanks. I expect it to be a bit of effort. We will see how it goes.

    Not saying I know too much, but with the 55 grain NOSLER. 2230 is a great powder , It shoots very well in 2 of my ARs.

    I have that same upper. PSA 24" I was lucky to get it, I don't think they made very many.

  • @eliinthewolverinestate6729

    Nosler are usually b.a. and worth the cost for 125 gn 308. Usually I just shot Tula steel.

    Happy New Year Dave . Assembling a 20" 6.5 Grendel barrel to a BCA Side Charging upper I Need to get 17 " FDE hand rails and barrel nut. I'm going with CMC 3.5 drop in trigger. I haven't decided on a Scope.yet any suggestions for a good mid price point Rifle Scope 400 and under.

      Sounds like a fun project rifle for you. IMO, The Grendel (for hunting) should be married up with a hunting scope in the 4-16 or 6-24 adjustment range. I don't hold with most of the experts on expensive scopes. I like the side parallax scopes in SFP. As you know I am partial to a scope that has external windage and elevation adjustments and have purchased 5 of the Ohhunt $200 range scopes.

    The pulled bullets seemed to make holes pretty good, did you happen to inspect and sort the worst ones out as you reloaded or all seemed just cosmetic blemishes? I have a project(stupid maybe) I'm mulling over, where because of component shortage still, I have thousands of cheap 55gr and green tip ammo , just bought 500 77gr factory seconds, thought I'd pull the light weight bullets and reload using the salvaged components and make 77gr ammo(maybe sort and more accurate weigh the powder but won't know until I weigh the original to find out how consistent they were loaded to start with). Even typing it out makes it sound stupid.

    • @davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009
      @davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009  Před rokem +1

      The pulled bullets are significantly damaged where their bullet puller somewhat dented them. But it seems to be above the ogive. More testing is needed to test accuracy at distances up to 400 yards. As far as deconstructing bullets with unknown propellant's and reusing them. That would be a definite NO-GO!. However if you are just using the cases from a known credible manufacturer, resizing and using fresh (known) components with established book powder charges for your new bullets then sure enough go for it and proceed cautiously.

    Are you more concerned about accuracy or speed

    • @davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009
      @davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009  Před rokem +1

      For smaller 'hunting calibers', speed is your friend along with proper bullet construction. Speed is a measurable and reliable input to gauge ballistic data for a more predicable shot placement on game at varied distances. Hunters place a premium on MPBR. For the precision competition shooter, Accuracy is paramount. So both are important depending on your primary discipline.
