"They were chosen because they were the best." That's a good take, Bloke.
As an Ohioan, thus makes me proud! 🇺🇸
As just a fan of CFB, it makes me proud. I do consider OSU to have TBDBIATL. But I think my school(Michigan State's) drum line is better than any other I've ever seen.
These kids work hard , it is great to see them perform. They are so good that the NFL invited them to perform.
An American marching band doing "God save the queen" Now I've seen everything 😄🥁
Think of it as "Our Country Tis Of Thee" if it makes you feel better.
The best damn band in the land.
@@Hey_Jamie our band is literally called TBDBITL (The Best Damn Band In The Land)
someone different dots the i in script Ohio each time! It's quite an honor.
If it's a special game then a guest does it, like former University Presidents, Bob Hope, Woody Hayes, it's a big deal it's the band making you an honorary member.
I'm glad you guys enjoyed this. As you're becoming aware, college football is a big deal in the US, and along with that, at most schools, is their marching band. The Ohio State Marching Band is certainly the pride of Ohio. It has 228 members, and usually a couple thousand people apply to be in it each year. There is a running joke amongst those in the know that the band has a larger budget than most other schools' football programs. It really is a site to behold seeing them live.
When I attended Ohio State the band practiced right outside my dormitory, so I got to watch them almost every day during Autumn Quarter. It's fascinating to watch a show come together over four or five days.
@@thomaslgrice I was in either S or N that year, I don't recall which. But I left early that year.
The OSU marching band really is The Best Damned Band In The Land (TBDBITL). Not only their marching, which is insane, but their musicianship is amazing. To see and hear them live is a real treat. I'm a proud alum. And me Mum-in-Law was a Brit, so the London visit is really special!
I was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, Where the Ohio State Buckeyes are from. I am a huge Buckeye fan and it was really cool to see you guys enjoy the video!
Dotting the I in Script Ohio is a big honor and each week a different person does it. There are times when they bring someone special on the field to dot the I and it is an honor for them. Yes, the band was there for the NFL.
To answer why they came to London the NFL invited them and really could you have refused such an opportunity?
Watching Brits react to football it's obvious there is a market for American football over there. It's just the time difference is a drag. A west coast morning game, 10a PST kickoff, is 6pm in London. And that puts the Sunday night game, 5pm PST kick off, starts at 1am GMT. Its just problematic. And when you consider how many times Canada and Mexico have tried to get NFL or MLB teams and it just failed, while being in the same timezones, getting a team to London is a hurtle that it may take faster airtravel to conquer.
Not only Brits, but also Scots and Irish. There is a fertile market for pigskin over in our parent's house.
STFU FFS scots are also Brits 😂 (even though we don’t like to admit it! )😂😂
@@officeblokedaz Damn. I guess I meant the ethnic Brits as opposed to the ethnic Scots not so much the nationality of the same name. Does that make sense or am I rambling... I guess both could be true. Did I mention English is my second language? Sometimes it's not so easy to make my point.
The two sousaphone (marching tuba) players who dotted the i in Ohio at the end - that was a really big deal to them. It's a group of the best brass players in the country who wind up in the band in the first place and then it's the best senior year tuba who dots the i.
The best damn band in the land. Go Buckeyes!
We take the last 5 minutes of the second quarter of football to get drinks and eats. Half time is very entertaining in Columbus. Don’t want to miss it. They are that good.
Learn the music, learn the moves, and find time to do their course work. Mercy!
Yup, they were chosen for the simple fact that they're the best band ever. The things they do are amazing.
I was from a small town in eastern Ohio. Our band was huge compared to school size. (grad class 95 kids...band size 115). When the football team went into summer sessions, so did we. Some of my best high school memories are band competitions, Friday night football games, and travel expeditions to Orlando, FL.
Ohio State is playing in the national championship on the 11th. You guys should try to find a way to watch!
Yes we spoke about that today. Would be good to do a live watch but think it starts at like 11pm here. Mike will fall asleep 😂
The Ohio State Buckeyes vs Bama Crimson Tide is a marquee national championship that are two blue bloods with rich tradition and prestige in the sport of football.
As a OSU graduate, college football is a necessity in the fall. We love our Buckeyes and we love TBDBITL !!! (The Best Damn Band In The Land)
super glad they kept watching and saw the "dotting of the I." figured they'd shut it off before Script Ohio lol
If you want to see a first person view of the OSU marching band, there is a video called "Ohio State Marching Band Go Pro Experience" made by Ryan Dunson. It's the first person view of a snare drum player and I highly recommend!
Loved when I’d be on campus watching them practice as an undergrad...TBDBITL 🥰
I live in Ohio USA and love the Ohio state buckeyes marching band go bucks
I'm so glad you did another OSU band reaction. LOVE it.
My parents were such huge fans of all the "British Invasion" bands that I grew up listening to them. I'm 47 now. The Beatles are still my favorite band of all time. Love from Florida, USA!
They are known throughout College Football as TBDBITL (The Best Damn Band In The Land), pronounced tah-BIT-ul. They constantly live up to that name. Their Michael Jackson show in 2013 is incredible. Yall need to watch it!
Ohio State is the best marching band in the US and I am proud to be an Ohioan. OH-IO! GO BUCKS!
In case you are wondering.A Buckeye is actualluy a Nut from a Buckeye Tree. It is Posonous to eat, but it supposed to bring good luck to thost who posess it..!
TBDBITL is one one of my favorite marching bands and I love seeing the reactions of people watching them, thanks for sharing!!
This takes hours and hours of hard work. My daughter was in the Color Guard (flags, rifles) The practiced for two weeks before school started every year all day long and this was high school.
You should react to the 1-hour “the rivalry” Ohio state v Michigan video
@@GaryHicks 3 guys who know almost nothing about the sport wouldn’t enjoy that. And why waste a recommendation on a video that is an hour long and only covers the rivalry between two teams. Just being realistic
@@GaryHicks I’m not being a troll I’m just saying that you can’t truly appreciate tradition in football unless you are invested in the sport
I am an alum of Ohio State, my daughter has a degree as well from there. Nice to see this reaction.
I am from Columbus OHIO OH IO -- I am 70 years old and a Buckeye fan my entire life - I went to OSU games when Woody Hayes was coach. They are awesome - our band is TBDBITL (The Best Damn Band in the Land) and our football and 2nd to none! They won the first ever National Championship game with our 3rd string quarterback! GO BUCKS!!!
My daughter marched in an award winning high school band, they practiced endlesly in all kinds of weather, marched for miles, practiced maneuvers, they were invited to England and other countries to play. I am always so proud to see these young people have a love of music and classical instruments. They and their parents put in many hours of fund raising so all the kids can go on these trips. Our favorite college band is University of Georgia Red Coat Band. But most all are good at this level of play.
Several kids in this performance came from my town's two high school marching band programs. Pickerington H.S. North was invited to play/march in London's New Year's Day parade, 2018. It was an amazing trip, my son still talks about it. Thx for supporting these amazing people.
I’m obsessed with that little beat in the intro.
You guys should really find the behind-the-scenes video the OSUMB posted for this entire show. It shows all of their travel, prep, and even some of the reactions of the crew at Wembley. Cheers
My son has been in marching band since 8th grade (age 13) in the hopes of going to Ohio State and playing in TBDBITL. :) This was very fun to watch!
When will you know if he gets in? Or is he still too young to know yet? Either way I hope he makes it 👍🏻👊🏻
@@officeblokedaz Still too young. He'll apply in the fall. His dad's favorite team ever was the Ohio State Buckeyes. He lost his dad last year from COVID so it's more important than ever. Think good thoughts for him! :)
April Wilson oh nooo!!! Sorry to hear that. Well, he will do it now. Tell him he has to fro me. 👍🏻👊🏻
Script Ohio & "dotting the i".... ICONIC! ❤
"I've got orcs tattooed on me" 😂😂 good man
Yes! born and raised buckeye here, OSU band is TBDBITL!
I always love to watch Script Ohio. I wish the camera would have zoomed in on the drum major and the tuba player at the end when they strut away from the line and the tuba player dots the i. Always a show-stopper.
Hell yeah baby! Buckeye Nation! So lucky to live in Columbus Ohio because of awesome things like this.
THE OHIO STATE BUCKEYES MARCHING BAND! SIMPLY PUT,
THE BEST DAMN BAND IN THE LAND!! 💖💖
I've been watching the BDBITL do that since 1977 and I still get chills!
Awesome! I can't imagine how many hours go into this type of choreography. I couldn't stop watching.
REQUEST - "Ohio State Marching Band and their "TRIBUTE to MICHAEL JACKSON." You will love that one.
I live in Ohio near Ohio State and they are Always in the top College Marching Bands in the US. Amazing performances .
The formations are excellent all while playing beautiful music!
Yes to answer your question yes the Ohio State Marching Band is the best marching band you’ve ever laid your eyes on
When they do the "Script Ohio" on game day, there is a special person for the week, that's chosen to be the dot on the "I". The Script Ohio is normally just done as one big word, instead of one for each side of the stadium. And, I'm sure the were picked because they're the best. They're the largest too, as Ohio State is the largest student body in our country.
I enjoy these... marching band is SO cool, and it's fun hearing these guys' surprise and delight, upon seeing it for themselves...
Ohio State University is a big rival of college sports teams here in Michigan but I have to admit their marching band is top-notch.
You guys should check out clips from HBCU bands (Historically Black Colleges and Universities). Totally different marching band styles than the other schools but very exciting. Some would say more exciting 😉 Jefferson Davis High School from Montgomery, Alabama is in that style as well and their performances are incredible for high school band. Heck, they’re better than some college bands.
LOVE MY BUCKEYES...BEST DAMN BAND IN THE LAND!!!!!
Ight whose gonna be the one to show them DCI? Well I might as well put yall on. So Drum Corps International (DCI) is basically the marching band that you are watching, but with no woodwinds and only brass, percussion, and colorguard and they put on way better shows in my opinion. They usually consist of performers from the ages 18-21, but with some exceptions of younger performers. Some of the groups are the Blue Devils, Santa Clara Vanguard, Bluecoats, Carolina Crown, Boston Crusaders, The Cavaliers, and so many more corps with so many memorable shows throughout the years. They travel around the United States to perform and compete. Then, they all head to Indianapolis, Indiana for the DCI World Championships. I will go ahead and leave a link to threeof my all time favorite shows. The first one is the winner of the 2017 World Championships. This show is called "Metamorph" and is performed by the Blue Devils. The second one is performed by Carolina Crown in 2016. This one is called "Relentless." They didn't win, but the brass was still the absolute best that year. And the final one is a 2019 show performed by the Bluecoats entitled, "The Bluecoats." The reason they used their own name in their show title was because its paying omage to one of the most influential bands in the history of music, "The Beatles" (Yes, they play Beatles music throughout). They didn't win either, but they placed 2nd and it was the most popular show in 2019. I hope you are able to watch at least one of these shows. Take your pick!

You are right those groups are fantastic and they practice one show for the entire season. The Ohio State marching band does 6 or 7 different shows in 12 weeks. My favorite is the entrance of the band onto the field. When the band major runs down the field and throws his baton into the sky and catches it then does that backbend touching the plume on his hat to the ground. Such a great moment. The crowd goes wild. Then they do script Ohio. All before the teams enter the field.
I hope Brits know how much we love them. No hard feelings from that revolution!
Those kids go to camp all summer to try to get a spot in that band. These kids are dedicated and aren't your typical college partiers. They practice a lot and do a different show every home game. They are amazing to watch. I love when their drum major bends backwards and touches his head to the ground. That seems almost impossible
That's some god of war mode marching.
Marching bands start in high schools and carry into universities. Know when you watch professional musicians in bands they probably were in marching bands in school growing up. A great discipline. Imagine learning music and marching at the same time. It’s not easy. Tremendous talent on that field.
Having the opportunity to work with both the NFL and the local BIG 10 colleges, I really like working with Wisconsin and Iowa for the enthusiasm of their fans 👌👏💯
I played in high school marching band, the work and "training" need to play your instrument and follow the lay out of the grid, i could never do again.
Thanks guys from some from Ohio. We love our great band
Visually stunning and absolutely mind-boggling!
"Brassed Off". One of my favorites!
Make it a point to visit the Traditionally Black University marching bands ! Then you're gonna' see something great !
marching in the band is the most amazing feeling.
We went over to London cause the NFL invited the Band to play for halftime.
They play before over 100,000 fans at every single home game in Columbus, Ohio
I assume you guys also noticed that the size of Ohio State's brand leads to a significant amount of interactions and online engagement. Appealing to us is a great way to grow haha
I loved marching band at Iowa. Made some very good friends in college. We did this in high school so we were used to reading charts when we got to school as freshman but they were so much cooler. Yeah it's still hard playing trumpet and doing the pregame at homecoming. Buy so much fun to go back to iowa city and see everyone and do pregame. It's hard at 63 but I won't stop.
Wanna bet "God Save The Queen" was just taken off the shelf as "My Country 'Tis of Thee"? (My cousin was completely thrown by it happening at the Freddie Mercury concert, she forgot the two songs have the same tune.)
I was amused when I found out that the music for "The Star Spangled Banner" was taken from an old English drinking song, "To Anacreon In Heaven".
Ohioan here!!
My siblings all went to Ohio State… 9 of them:)
Thank you:)
Being from Ohio and being a huge fan of The Ohio State University I’m happy you guys checked this out.
There is a reason they call our band The Best Damn Band In The Land!!! Go Buckeyes!
I graduated from OSU’s music school. We heard them practice alllll the time! Lol
Beautifully done.
Congrats on 50k
Thanks from across the pond
The Best Damn Band In The Land.
If The Ohio State Buckeyes beat Bama in the national championship game on Monday night, then they will be The Best Damn Team In The Land!
6 hours of practice per day , to get the program perfect and memorizing the formations , the music , have to get it perfect. No sheet music upon game day at all. Plus having competitions on the weekends , concerts , parades, plus a full class load . Keeping the grades up , the grades had be high . Even during the summer the competitions was like two per month , concerts, then two weeks of band camp, The practices was from 4:30 a.m.To 7:30 a.m., Evening practice 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. If not longer. Plus keeping the uniform cleaned , and shoes shined , . As well additional having after school jobs too. So the last four years of school your spoken for , that means your social calendar is dead .I played the sousaphone, concert tuba , symphonic tuba , you can not miss a practice , game, concerts , competition, you name it.
Im from Ohio! Born and raised here!
Also i second the comment that says you should watch the 1-hour "the rivalry" . Very cool video.
I did enjoy the rivalry but the man who impersonates Woody Hayes was so annoying. They should of left that stuff on the cutting room floor.
I'm from Ann Arbor and they are good.
I need a marching band subplot in season 2 of Ted Lasso.
Thank you from Doylestown Ohio 100 miles north of Columbus and Ohio State
The Best Damn Band in the Land!!! The kids work hard and long. Nobody can hold a candle to this band. 🎼🎺
Class of 2001. Go Buckeyes!!!
Gotta do their Video Games show now. Don't know if you like video games at all, but it's a great show even without the nostalgia that it brings up.
I live in Columbus. I okay pickup soccer on the field they practice on. They’ll run through their set, and then with their instruments full sprint back to start over. It’s insane!!
There’s one where they make michael jackson moonwalk!
Impressed.
THE Ohio State University! We love our TBDBITL!! Alumni here and we love our Buckeyes!!
You guys understand somebody has to spend hours choreographing these routines then the band spends weeks and months perfecting this.
The OSU marching band does a different performance at every halftime. They have only one week to practice each performance in between their studies and classes at the university. Quite amazing
The precision just to be able to march let alone play an instrument. Yay Ohio State.
Please react to a Historical Black University Band and I think Florida A&M Rattles Band is one of the best in the country!
Yes. They are the best!!
As a complete band geek myself, I must say, for those sousaphone players "dotting the I" its a tremndous honor having been selected to do so.
LOVE the OSU Marching band!!!❤
