How to make a wonderful piece of music your own. 'Sibelius' Segerstam style. The. textures are just terrific! Goodness knows what the master recording is like, if this is just CZcams audio. The sound is so expressive and detailed. I am not used to hearing the piece played at this slower tempo but boy, who cares! Bravo one and all Thank you Maestro Sibelius for enriching my life. Thank you Maestro Segerstam for your unique vision and thank you to everyone in the orchestra for playing everything so well
I feel an extraordinary sense of affinity with this orchestra. Is it them? Is it Maestro Leif ? Is it the music? Is it me? Anybody else feel the same way?
Thank you, Turku Philharmonic Orchestra for so many fine recordings of Sibelius conserts, also this, his darkest and most introspectiv. And thank you, Leif Segerstam for having this ability to take us out into this Sibelius Forest and then find a place where there is a little sunshine for all of us, and we can sit without getting wet and cold.
One of the darkest and most haunting openings in the symphonic repertoire.
Sibelius admired Bruckner and that inspiration does show in his music. Bruckner heard through very Finnish ears and the inimitable Finnish landscape.
I can agree with the very appropriate comments. I am moved by the authenticity of serving art and sharing it on this high and at the same time so soulful level.
This is so moving. A great masterpiece so ably and lovingly performed by Maestro Leif and the Turku Philharmonic. I have loved this piece since 1953, and at 84, it still can give me chills. I don't often indulge in superlatives, but this symphony is certainly among the greatest in Western music. And Maestro Segerstam knows how to end it, above all. Thanks also for sharing the post performance where we all can share the celebration.
Whenever I hear this symphony, I think it's a musical picture of Finnland - vast forests, snow, empty landscape, beautiful loneliness .
Lesser known symphony by Sibelius. But one of his greatest
Lesser known? What about the Third and Sixth?
It is a pitty that there are so many people coffing in this magnificient performance
Deep meditation
Idiomatic, insightful, masterful. Plaudits from New York.
Impressive indeed.
Where has Daniel Hardings video of Sibelius 4th gone? Just asking!
Oh, this ending is remarkable slowly played, with lots of long breaks. May serve the piece, but I'm not used to this.
There is a time to play and a time to refrain from playing.
Too slow......
Idiomatic, insightful, masterful. Plaudits from New York.
